He took hold of his fathers business and he sent two younger brothers through college not going him self, although he has more than enough ability. The brothers are now on their own, but Mike keeps doing ex travagant things for Cecile. H buys her expensive presents which she never uses, and has made out his will and insurance so that Cecile benefits as much as our children. Cecile already has money left her by her father. She is a nasty, surly girl who never smiles or appreciates what is done for her. He should leave her on her own. Mike F. It would be hard to recognize Cecile from Vera's de scription. Actually, she is very sweet, shy girl. It isn't that she doesn't appreciate what is done for her, but just that she doesn't want me to give her things. Oregon WATER REGULATIONS MEDFORD WATER COMMISSION WE ASK YOUR SUPPORT Now that the summer menrhi an her, we are asking you to be comciaui of tho water you m, particularly on hot days and dur ing dry periods, and to avoid unnecessary wastage of ona of our community's most valuable assets. For better utilization ef the public water supply and assurance of ample ejuanitities of water at proper pressures for domestic, com mercial and fire fighting needs, the regulations governing the use of water are as follows: WHEN THE FIRE SIREN SOUNDS, i neighbor Is In distress and you can help him. Turn off your lawn sprinklers and other non essential water uses during the emergency. OPEN HOSES ARE NOT ALLOWED. An open hose robs pressure from your other sprinklers and from your neighbors' houses. WASTE OF WATER IS PROHIBITED. You can stop waste and save money by being careful not to allow water to run to waste down sidewalks, streets or gutters as a result of sprinkling lawns, gardens or parking strips and by repairing all plumbing leaks and closing faucets when they are not actually being used. Wasted water costs just as much to deliver as water that is put to use. SPRINKLING STREETS. The use of water through a hose for sprinkling streets is forbidden under all circumstances: In addition to the above regulations, the following hints may be helpful in your use of water: WHEN SPRINKLING YOUR LAWN, get the most for your money use water wisely. Experts say that it is better to soak an estab lished dawn to a depth of several inches once or twice a week than to give your grass a light sprinkling daily. They also suggest watering only in the cool hours of the day. As the heaviest demand on the water system comes in the late afternoon and evening, it is suggested that you sprinkle in the early morning. WATER FOR AIR CONDITIONERS of the evaporative type, should be carefully controlled. Maximum efficiency from an evaporative type air conditioner is obtained when the entire area of the pads is kept damp. Any water allowed to run off from the conditioner is wasted. USE WATER WISELY. . Council comltti of a judge, a piychlitrist. that she knows Vera doesn't like it and that she'd rather not hav any presents. Cecile was only 5 years old when our father died and it was a terrible shock to her. For long time afterward she would have terrible nightmares and was caily frightened. The doctor said she would need lots of affection to regain her feeling of security. I have tried hard to be a real father to Cecile. Yet I can't seem to make her happy. She never comes to me with any of her problems and I feel this is Vera fault. Vera does not make her feel welcome in our home. My wife is a jealous woman. The Council: Mike has made his mistake in attempting to be "a real father" to Cecile. This is impossible and can only result in the kind of antagonism that his sister and his wife feel for one another. Cecile'g position is a very un fortunate one. She has been en couraged to feel that her brother is really her father and she is now excluded from his house hold. Mike himself feels guilty about this and tries to salve her feelings with expensive presents. She bitterly shows that she can't be bought off so easily. She can't put the blame on such a devoted brother, so she puts it on his jealous wife. Mike is Cecile's big brother no more or less. He should try to stop feeling himself a father to her and then he will treat her in a manner more appropriate to their real situation. He should not be buying her expensive presents but should remember her birthday and show an in terest in her day-to-day activi ties. He should show her that he expects her to be an aunt, not a jealous rival to his emidren Vera can also help this situa tion by trying to keep her eal ousy under control and treating Cecile as a friendly, grown-up sister-in-law. She should try to forget about the will and insur ance as long as she and her chil dren are properly provided for. (Copyright, 1957, General Features Corp.)
