Cbsses Continue All Year for Employees f Pacific Telephone 1937 more than 56,000 hours of training were recorded. C. B. Scott, plant training supervisor, estimated that close to 150.000 hours of training will be com pleted by the end of the year. Classes are taught by training foremen selected for their tech nical knowledae and teaching ability. Instruction ranges in length from several days to more than 25 weeks. Both new and experienced em ployees are trained at the school. Rapid advances in the field of communications make the de mand for specialists greater every day. Courses are taught in opera tion and maintenance of local and long distance switching equipment, teletypewriter, tele photo, complex telephone sys tems for business and industry, FCC radio requirements, micro wave radio .for television and telephone use, local and long distance equipment testing, splic ing, construction and mainten ance of cable and other " outside plant," mathematics, electrical theory, electronics, drafting and many other subjects. School Is out for Oregon's 377. 000 elementary and high school students, but for the craftsmen and women of Pacific Tele phones plant department in Ore fon. classes -will go on through the summer months. At the new centralized train ing center In Portland, telephone employees learn to construct, in tall. operate, maintain and re pair equipment. Known as the Plant Training school the year-around technical institute haa as its motto, "Learn by Doing " Students From State Students from more than 20 Oregon communities, in addition to those from the metropolitan Portland area, have attended the school so far this year. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Dicken son have moved to San Fran cisco where Dickenson will take a course in electronics. He will study there for 40 weeks. His mother, Mrs. Bill Dickenson, and twin sisters accompanied them to San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jutis and daughter. Janet, from southern Calif., were recent visitors of Mrs. Justis' mother and brother. Mrs. Hal Garden and Bill Millbank. Janet will stay with her grandmother for the summer. Gloria, combined business with pleasure in a trip to Klamath Falls on Saturday. 4-H Club News Antelope 4-H Livestock Club Tile Antelope 4-H Livestock club held a meeting June 21 at Hubbard's home. Preceding the business meeting, club members judged two classes of dairy cows for practice. During the business meeting Ny ia .Murray, Aaren Jossy, Larry Meyer and Linda Aial loroy reported on their experi ences at 4-H summer scnool. Dorothy Malloroy and Cora An derson were appointed to obtain new cups wiui which to serve refresiimenls to the club. Mem bers desiring to attend 4-ri sum mer camp July 15-20, were re corded.
