A device similar to the scores pieced together by the original "mad bomber" who now is in a mental institution was found in a subway station. Service on one subway line was halted for 15 minutes while police bomb squad experts gin gerly plucked the device from behind a stairwell and took it away for examination. It was the second crude "bomb" to be found on the same subway platform in 10 days. It consisted of a five-inch length of galvanized pipe with a red fuse. The pipe was filled with black powder. Written in black crayon on the device was the query: "Is this still crude?" The message apparently refer red to police reports that the "bomb" found 10 days ago was crude. George Metesky known for 16 years as "the mad bomber of Manhattan" was arrested earlier this year. He told police he had planted scores of bombs some of which exploded to call atten tion to a grievance he had against the Consolidated Edison company. Late-Model Jets Are Planned for Korea Tokyo OP! The U.S. Air Force will fly a swarm -of late model jet fighter planes from Japan to South Korea early next week to begin'the modernization of the United Nations forces arms on the divided peninsula, it was reported Saturday. Informed sources said the reinforcements probably will in clude all-weather E-lOOs and at least a wing of F-86Fs the lat est model of the fighter that clobbered Russia's MIGs during the Korean war. The latest tanks, field guns and bazookas also will be ship ped soon to South Korea, along with new rifles to replace the wornout weapons now being used by U.S. forces in the U.N. command there, these sources said. The move Is the result of the U.N. command's decision to scrap the Korean armistice ban on sending new weapons into Korea. It could not be determined immediately whether atomic rockets or artillery would be in cluded in the allied buildup. Kaiser Aircraft to Lease Phoenix Plant Oakland, Calif. m A new plant for the manufacture of electronics systems and equip ment will be constructed in Phoenix, Ariz., the Kaiser Air craft and Electronics Corps, an nounced Friday. The factory will be construct ed by, and leased from, the Deer Valley Development Corp. The plant will be initially a one-story facility employing from 40 to 50 persons, most of them engineers and technicians. It will be the third such plan' operated by the company, a sub sidiary of Kaiser Industries Corp. Others have been estab lished at Toledo. Ohio., and Palo Alto, Calif.
