TREES Huron, S.D. W Woodland conservationist A. L. Ford says more than 6.000 acres of trees are planned for planting on the prairie lands of South Dakota this year. Had growing condi tions been better in 1956, Ford said, tree planting could have been increased by 20-25 per cent this year. Order of the Amaranth, received an official visit from the grand royal ma tron.. Mrs. Gideon Zimmerman of Mizpah court, Portland, and the grand royal patron. Jack J Kennedy of Roxy Ann court, at a special meeting Saturday, June 15 in the Medford Masonic temple. Other grand officers and many members from the various courts in the state attended the special meeting and the recep tion following which honored Mr. Kennedy. After the opening ceremonies, the two grand officers were es corted, introduced and seated on the throne with the presiding officers. Mrs. Vernon Turpin, royal matron, and Ole Skoog, royal patron. Three deputy supreme ma trons, Mrs. William Pritchard, Mrs. Hans Madsen and Mrs. Charles Rundell were escorted; Earl Beeson, past grand patron of Oregon was also honored. Grand officers also honored were the associate matron and patron. Mrs. Gertrude Mack. As toria and Hugh Templeton, Mil waukie; Mrs. Opal Levack, Port land, associate conductress: Mrs. Quackenbush, Forest Grove, crown bearer: Mrs. Esther Cald erwood. Portland, faith: Mrs. Flva Hall, Gresham, truth; Mrs. Popp. Portland, charity; Mrs. Laulette Norton, Eugene, mar shal; Mrs. Wayne Laughlin and James Smily. both Portland, trustees: Mrs. Alpha Smith, Port land, sentinel; Mesdames Gladys Geffert, Anna Valentin. Lorene Buley and Mae Rehart, John Bachman, Wayne Laughlin, Carl Oestrcich and Mrs. Alda Tol Ienaar. represenatives; Mrs. Al- tha Kerola, Astoria and .Mrs Charles Hoppe, Medford, assist ant lecturers. Royal matrons and patrons from 17 courts in all parts of the state were introduced, as well as past royal matrons and patrons from several courts. An addendum was given in honor of the grand royal matron and patron by officers of Roxy Ann court and miniature work in their busy year ahead. An hon orary membership was presented to the grand royal matron in Roxy Ann court. Both spoke brief words of appreciation for the courtesies of the evening and conmmented on the attend ance of members from all parts of the state, over 200 being present. After the court was formally closed, the floor of the court room was cleared and guests who were non members were welcomed for the reception for Mr. Kennedy. Many were per sonal friends and also the various Masonic Bodies were well rep resented. The program opened with flute solos by Edward C. Root and Delmar Myers, accompanied by Arthur Manter. A humorous sketch of the life of the grand royal patron was depicted, the characters being shown in life size picture frame accompanied by appropriate remarks from (he commentator. Carl Oestreich. Mr. Kennedy's life was sum med up by the singing of "Mem ories" by Fred Graten. A gift from Roxy Ann court was then presented to him by Royal Pa tron Ode Skoog. Royal matrons and patrons of the state staged a drill and pre sented the honored guest with a small covered wagon covered THE KIDD FAMILY Fort Carson, Colo. TP If 2nd Lt. Stewart Kidd gets pro promoted two more notches, he'll violate a tradition in his family by becoming Captain Kidd out of turn. In every third generation, the Kidd family names a son Captain. Kidd's father, of Minot, N.D., is named Captain, so his son will have to depend on the Army if he is to be a Captain Kidd. HEALTHY FISH St. Paul HP Use of new miracle drugs in Minnesota fish hatcheries should make for sleek, healthy brook trout in North Shore streams this sum mer. Fisheries supervisor Hjal mer Swenson said a brook trout disease, called furunculosis, is being combated with terramycin while the fish are in the hatcheries. with green backs in a miniature woodmen's scene. Bethel 55 of Job's Daughters, represented by their queen, Miss Sheila Spence, spelled out the name "Jack" with an appropriate poem read by Past Queen Margaret Selby, and a certificate in the B ulah Faber Memorial was presented to him. After the reception, all ad journed to the dining room for refreshments. Mrs. Wallace Brill and her committee decorated the room with Ester Reed daisies and blue delphinum, and the guests were seated at long tables. Coffee and punch were served from the center table by Mrs. Esther Coleman, Mrs. Iris Pierce, Mrs. Dolores Lester and Mrs. Milton Loros. Sunday morning breakfast was served to about 150 mem bers and guests by Roxy Ann court, under the supervision of the associate matron and patron, Mrs. Betty Day and Fred Purdin. YOU'RE FREE!
