Bob Chamberlain, of Trail, have just returned from a trip to Palo Alto, Calif., where they visited with Mrs. Chamberlain's :ster end huband, Mr. and Mrs. Si. B. Lawsoji Accompanying them on the trip Mrs. Chamberlain's brother, Harry Note, of Ed munds, Wash., who is visiting them ind who also returned with them for a longer visit. Also coming back with the Chamberlain's was another sis ter. Mrs. Clyde Nesbitt, of Boise, Idaho, mho will visit in Trail UiT a few days before Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain and Mr. Note drive, with her back to Boise. Mr and Mrs. William Mc Donald of Sebastopol, Calif., are visiting with their daughter and husband. Dr and Mrs. Howard Tedguson, of Shady Cove. The Ferguson, of Shady Cove. The McDowell's made a trip over this past week-end to Seattle, where they visited with Mrs. Fergu son's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Craig. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Thompson, of California, who are vacation ing at their summer home next to the Dftlf Larsons in Shady Cove, plan to leave for a few weeks. taking their trailer through the Puget sound area and San Juai. Islands. Word has been received here of the death of Harry Smith last week. Smith died from a heart attack at his home at 1550 Hawk eye st. Turlock. Calif. Mason ic funeral services were held in Patlrrson, Calif, on Friday. The Smith's bought one of the Mann homes on the River, flow owned by Mr. and Mrs. Del Logan, and lived in the area for about six years before moving to Medford, where Smith was associated with the firm of Frake and Smith. He was one of the early members of the Shady Cove Rotary club. Sgt. and Mrs. Mervyn Glea gnn. and daughter, Jackie ex pect to arrive in Shady Cove from Alburquerque. N. M. for a visit with Mrs. Gleason's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Paavo Saari about June 27. They are on their way to Fairbanks, Alka., where Sgt. Gleason will be stationed with the Air Force. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cross, of Shady Cove, celebrated their wedding anniversary with a din ner at Mary's Casa in Medford. Guests were their daughter and family. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Wil liams and son, Gary, of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. Curt Donahue and daughters. Nancy and Nora, of Medford, were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove. Mrs. Lillian Trusty, together with her daughter and husband from San Jose, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Segessenman of Shady Cove recently. They are staying at the Shady Cove motel while here. The Segessenman's are expecting their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Pfluke and daughter, Jeanne Marie of Santa Rosa. Calif., and Chefs parents. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Ohion. for a visit this week. They just return ed from a trip to Eugene, where they saw Mrs. Segessenman's sister, Mrs. E. C. Vosson who had just undergone major surgery. Mrs. Barney Leabo accompanied them on the trip and they went on to Portland and Vancouver, Wash., where they saw Barney Leabo who is awaiting surgery at the VA hospital there. Also in Portland, they stopped to visit with Mrs. Segessenman s aunt, Mrs. Anna Edwards. Bert Connor, of Shady Cove, underwent an emergency ap pendectomy at Rogue Valley hospital on Sunday. He is pro gressing satisfactorily and ex pects to be home in a week or less. Mr. and Mrs. Barry Campbell, of Trail, are vacationing in Los Gatos, Calif., where they are visiting with Mr. Campbell's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Gibson of St. Louis, Mo., are visiting wih Mrs. Gibson's sister and husband. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Scott, of Trail. Bible School started June 10 at the Elk-Trail school under j the sponsorship of the Trail Com munity church. Children from four years of age and up are welcome. To make arrangements to have the children picked up I parents are asked to contact 'Mrs. Russell Elder in Shady , Cove or Mrs. Lewis Dusenberry i at Trail. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Gusland and family, of Shady Cove are now renting the house owned by Mr. and Mrs William Kennedy known as the Walt Blair home. They had been living at the Rainbow motel. Among the Eagle Point high school graduating on May 29 were Sandra Sawyers, Neil Dusenberry and Monte Axtell, of Trail and Millie Haynie, Car ole Sheppard Shirley Andre and Georgia Mason, of Shady Cove. Sandra Sawyers, Millie Haynie and Carole Sheppard were honor students and took part in the program. Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hornseth, of Shady Cove, made a trip to Brookings over the weekend, where they visited with Mrs. Hornseth's brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Hannan and attended the wedding of Donald Wes trom, of Klamath Falls, to M a r g a ret Gran of Brookings. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Turner and children, Leila and Jerry, of Oswego. Ore., spent the week end visiting with Mrs. Turner's parents, the Rev and Mrs. John Stille of Shady Cove. The Turn ers plan to leave about June 25 for a month's stay in Philade phia. Claude, who is principal of a grade school in Oswego, and president of the Clackamas county Oregon E d u cation as sociation, is being sent as a dele gate to the National Educational convention there. Through an oversight on the part of the correspondent it was not mentioned that accompany ing Mrs. Bob Culver on the trip to Alaska by plane were her two children. Mrs. Culver and child ren and Mrs. Curren left Satur day by plane, where they will both join their husbands who are working in Alaska. The fire across from the Rogue River lodge on the slope below the Dawson barn did very little damage due to the prompt action of the Shady Cove-Trail volun teer fire department. All the grass and weeds now are dry and everyone is urged to take added care about starting fires. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Close of Glide, Ore., spent the weekend on Big Butte creek, having their trailer parked near the fish lad der at a house that Claude has partially finished. Mr. and Mrs. Don Flaccus and family are rent ing the Claude Close home on Big Butte creek. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sackett and son. Kerry of Shady Cove ' plan to spend some time in Ash- ! land this summer, where Ernie ; will attend summer school. They j left Shady Cove en routs to. Grants Pass, where they were to ; operate a store belonging to Mrs. ' Sackett's parents while they were on vacation in Spokane, j Kerry was to accompany his s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Mil-1 ton Seefeldt. to Spokane. Mrs. ; Sackett's sister. Pat Seefeldt. is planning to be married in the near future. Jan Gilhousen, son of Mrs. Montie Gilhousen. of the Rogue Rner. lodge. Trail, is employed by Morrison-Knudsen Co. at Little valley, near Salt Lake City. Carl Hanson, of Shady Cove, and Stewart Ditsworth, of Trail, are on a two months vacation trip to Alaska, traveling by auto mobile and taking house trailers. They were accompanied by Mr. Hanson's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jantzer and by Mr. and Mrs. Dobro't, both of Central Point. During the summer months no planning meetings for the Cub Scouts will be held. Mrs. A. J. Hutchinson, of San Diego, visited briefly at her home near Trail, the old Emma Warn er place. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Mackley of Shady Cove have been Mr. and Mrs. Paul Walter of Eugene, brother and wife of Mrs. Mackley, and her nephew, llichard Kahn, who was on leave from Williams Air Force Base in Phoenix Ariz. Mrs. Billie Minter has return ed to her home in Las Vegas after spending two weeks visit ing with her neice and family. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sheppard of Shady Cove. Others relatives present for the Olsen-Pcrkins family re union, which took place recent ly, were the Alvin Perkins daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Santo and daughter, Carla, of Fort Jones, Cailf. Mrs. Alvin Perkins cooked a turkey dinner on Sunday for the whole group. A number of Shady Cove peo ple have been fishing at the Willow Springs reservior near Butte Falls. Among them have been Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Wil liams, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ker by. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Collins. Mrs. Mary Chapman and Mrs. Adeline Carl. The condition of Mrs. George Pfeifer. of Shady Cove, who is confined to Rogue Valley Mem orial hospital for injuries suf fered in an accident last week, is somewhat improved, x-rays have been taken to determine the extent of her injuries. Sheri and Lane Watson, of Shady Cove, are vacationing in Camino, Calif., with their great aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Ike Skillman. They planned to visit with other relatives in Red Bluff and Sacramento. Mr. and Mrs. George Welch and sons, Darroll and Jimmie, reported fairly good fishing at Diamond lake while their recent vacation there. Members o Our Lady of Fa tima parish in Shady Cove, both men and women, are very busy this week getting the church, hall and grounds ready for the formal dedication services to be held Sunday, June 16 at 3 p.m. Following the services, at which the Most Reverend Ed ward D. Howard, D.D. Arch bishop of Portland will officiate, a diner, open to the public, will be served in the church hall. Catchechism classes will con tinue this week and five young sters will receive their first communion on Sunday at the dedication mass. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wilson and children, of Trail, are spending the summer in Clearlake, Calif., where Wilson is employed. Mr. and Mrs. Joaquin Medina, of Shady Cove, are expecting the arrival of two nieces. Amelia and Rita Medina of Mountain View. Calif., to spend part of their vacation with them. Mrs. Medina's mother, Mrs. Nelmes, who has been visiting them from England, is now visiting with uther relatives in California. Mrs. Cecil Kee and Mrs. Travis Littlefield were both winners of awards in the dress contest sponsored by the Pomona Grange. Mrs. Kee won first prize and Mrs. Littlefield third prize. Both are members of -the Shady Cove Grange. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Harris and children, of Cottage Grove, Ore., have been down several weekends visiting with Mrs. Harris's mother, Mrs Peggy Heaton, of Shady Cove. The Har ris's who are the parents of four boys, had their first girl born May 15. She has been named Aimee Marlene. Rodney Collins, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Collins, of Shady Cove, left Saturday to attend the Beaver Boys state convention tor a week at Oregon State col .ege in Corvallis. He was spon sored by the Shady Cove-Trail Lions. Mrs Thelma Reinning of Shady Cove received the 5th degree work at the recent meet ing of the Pomona Grange. Mr. and Mrs. Ansel Greenley of Roseburg. Ore., visited with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Jones of Shady Cove and attended the gradua tion exercises at the Shady Cove School, where their grandson, Pat Kelley, was one of the grad uates. Also out for the gradua tion of their grandson, Gary Stelle were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stelle and aunt, Mrs. Marian Pit man, of Medford. Attending the West Coast Bowling tournament in Albany were Mrs. Liz Hale, Mr. and Mrs. Don Harmon, Mr. and Mrs. Harrv Goode and Mr. and Mrs Ted Jantzer and family, of Shady Cove. Mrs. Thelma Reinning, of Shady Cove, has returned from Seattle where she visited with her mother-in-law, Mrs. Ed Rein ning and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Hoyes. While there, she also purchased new stock, summer cottons and sheers , for the dress shop. Those who finished the class in advanced tailoring at Medford High school were Mrs. Harold Barber, of Trail, Mrs. Thelma Reinning and Mrs. Frank Lin den, of Shady Cove. Mrs. Ida Roadruck, of Spok ane, was a visitor at the home of her granddaughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Sackett of Shady Cove. Also visiting the Sacketts were Mrs. Sackett's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Se efeldt, of Grants Pass. Mrs. Alberta Hughes, of Rid dle, spent several days visiting with. her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Messecar, of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Alexander, of Central Point, were recent visitors at the home of Mrs. Alexander's parents, Mr. and Mrs. U. R. Wagler. A family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hunt of Shady Cove recently. Attending were two sisters of Mrs. Hunt. Mrs. Kath erine Hill of Yakima. Wash., and Mrs. Sue Markel of Minot, N. D. Also present the Hunt's daughter and children, who were visiting from Fairbanks, Ala- in a single compact package PROSPECT Teacher Goes By GENEIL SPRUILL Prospect Wes Staufer, biol ogy and physical education teacher at Prospect, left Tues day, June 5, for Bermuda. He will attend school there this summer. Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Covey that their son and daughter-in-law are par ents of a son born May 27 at Murfreeaboro, Tenn. Donna Jewell celebrated her 12th birthday at the home of her parents. The party was given by her mother and her aunt, Mrs. Barbara Van Culler, Games were played, and cake, ice cream and soft drinks were served. Mrs. Paul Struck and son, Le- ska, Mrs. Al Davis and children, I and their grandson and family. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Durbin of Medford. Johnny Langston, who spent the last part of the school year staying with his grandmother, Mrs. Clara Thurman, has return ed by bus to his home in Sacra mento. Mrs. Bob Sanderson of Trail has been chosen from the Elk Trail volleyball team to play on the Women's All Star volley ball team for the rogue valley. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bergren and children, of Tillamook, Ore., visited with the Dave Bergrens of Shady Cove recently and made a trip to Diamond lake. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Bergren entertained with a dinner for the members of the volleyball team recently. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Tex Burnett and child ren, Joyce Connor, Susan Jack son, Pat Lusk, and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Gergren and family. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Naumchik, of Los Angeles have been stay ing at the Rogue River lodge do ing some fishing. Mrs. Naumchik, who is the mother of Joanne Phelan. came up especially for her daughter's graduation from Eagle Point High school. Mrs. Dick Bartuss entertained at her home on Thursday, June 6, with a luncheon for the mem bers of her swing club. The Rev. and Mrs. Forrest Bard, Minister of the Assembly of God church in Prospect, are now living on Trail Creek in the new home they purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Bob Culver, who are now making their home in Ketchikan, Alaska. Mrs. Culver and children left Saturday to join Culver. Week end guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Goode were Mrs. Goode's daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Don Ham mon. and three children from Redding, Calif. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Waddel of Corvallis. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Grant have returned to their home after in Eureka, Calif., at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Owsley. Mrs. Paul Struck and daugh ter. Yvonne and Mrs. Bill Baul dry and daughter. Norma Jean, attended the Minnesota picnic Sunday at TouVelle State par. Norma Jean won two prices and Yvonne Struck had a poem read she had written about Minnes sota. Richard Robinson left Sunday for Corvallis where he is attand ing the Beaver Boys State at the Oregon State college from June 9-14. He is sponsored by the Prospect Lions. Mrs. Raymond Artmire and daughter, Frances, are house guests in Medford at the home of Mrs. Stella Teel, 409 North Central ave. Mrs. Earl Robinson and daugh ter, Ellen, aree visiting in Med ford at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hogue, while her son, Richard, is attending the Boys State meeting. The nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Bedingfield. receiv ed a crushed hand on Thursday when a slab of concrete fell on his hand. Miss Sue Betts is a house guest in Union Creek at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob White. Mrs. Russell Burg of Cascade Gorge underwent minor surg ery Tuesday, June 4, at a doctors office in Shady Cove. The minutes were read and approved, committee reports were given and new business taken care of. Charles Foote reported that the weather had been good for the hay crop, most of it being put up without being rained on. Herman Kamping reported that potatoes were selling at a low price but that onions were still high. He said that there is a bumper crop of strawberries but not enough pickers to save it. The ways and means commit ance at the dances had brought in a considerable amount of money to the Grange treasury. Under new business the Grange decided to paint the din ing room and volunteer help for the project was asked for. The HEC is still furnishing lunches for the dances and they also prepare the Lion's club din ners. The lecture hour was spent singing, reading and discussing resolutions that will come up at the State Grange in Bend this go to the State Grange as alters nates, as it is impossible for the master to attend. Grange closed at 10:30 p.m. and lunch was served by Bar bara Moser and Betty Malloy. The next serving committee will be Mr. and Mrs. Hal Bishop and Blanche Merriman.
