(International) Aluminum Truck Used for Fuel Fires Washington IP Army en gineers have developed a highly mobile aluminum truckforuse In combatting fuel storage areas fires. The truck, manufactured by the Walter Motor Co., of Long Island City, N.Y., can fight fires that are inaccessible by hose. It carries a 1,000-gallon water tank, and 150 gallons of concen trated foam, which are discharg ed from a revolving turret. A pump, driven by the truck's main engine, can discharge up to 6,000 gallons a minute of the fire-extinguishing foam. Of relatively light-weight (39,- 000 pounds) the truck is 28 feet long and 8 feet wide. It is pow ered by a 330-horsepower rear engine, can go up to 60 miles an hour, can negotiate 60 per cent grades, and its hydraulic steer ing gives it a turning radius of only 40 feet. The truck can operate in tem peratures as low as 65 degrees below zero or as high as 125 above. All equipment is enclos ed in insulated compartments heated by an automatic gasoline- fired electrical-. controlled cool ant heater. It also can withstand the harmful effects of salt water. high humidity, fungi, molds and tropical insects. CRUSHED ROCK.
