10 of 14 Timber Tracts
Offered by BLM Bring
Half-Million Dollars
Ten of the 14 tracts of timber
offered for sale by the Medford
district of the Bureau of Land
Management on May 16 were
oId for more than half a mil
lion dollars.
Competition varied consider
ably with the individual sales,
according to BLM officials. Only
one bid was received for five of
the tracts while four bidders
participated in two of the sales.
The total purchase price for the
20,677,000 board feet sold was
$583,427.75.
In Two Counties
Eight of the tracts are located
in Jackson county while the
other two ar in Josephine
county.
In Jackson county. Ford
Brothers Logging of Rogue
River purchased an estimated
2,882,000 board feet on Upper
Grave creek for $93,776.40. Bate
Lumber company of Merlin pur
chased another tract on Upper
Grave creek containing an esti
mated 5,786,000 board feet for
$167,918.20. Duane Burton of
Butte Falls was the successful
bidder for two tracts of salvage
timber. One, containing an esti
mated 42,000 board feet on the
Butte Falls-Prospect road was
purchased for S670.00 and the
second, containing an estimated
237,000 board feet in the Dead
Indian area for $4,684.05.
Salvage Tract
Another salvage tract in the
Dead Indian area was pur
chased by McDonough Logging
company of Ashland. That tract
contains an estimated 167,000
board feet and was purchased
for $2,792.00. Two tracts in the
Butte Falls area were pur
chased by Crater Logging com
pany of Prospect and Ross Lum
ber company of Medford. Cra
ter Loggin company bid $49,
545.30 for a tract containing an
estimated 1,907,000 board feet
while Ross Lumber company bid
$55,390.55 for their tract which
contains an estimated 1,656,000
board feet.
Green Springs Lumber com
pany of Klamath Falls was the
purchaser of an estimated 4,
04,000 board feet in the Lin
coln area. Their bid was $109,
759.30. In Josephine county, Ord
arks of Sunny Valley pur
chased an estimated 37,000
hoard feet of salvage on Lower
Grave creek, for $872.90 and
Southern Oregon Plywoods Inc.,
f Grants Pass bought an esti
mated 3,569,000 board feet lo
cated on Wolf Creek for $98,
019.05. Vo Bid Sales
The no bid sales included
small salvage sales of blow
down timber on Battle Moun
tain and Morris creek, a sale of
815,000 board feet of fire-killed
salvage in the Sykes creek burn
and a tract of 382,000 board feet
of green timber on the Howard
Prairie reservoir site. These
tracts will be held open for bids
for a period of 90 days.
Two other small salvage sale's
were withdrawn before the sale.
At least three timber sales
will be held in June, by the Bu
reau of Land Management in
the Medford district according
to an announcement by the dis
trict forester's office.
Special Sale
A special sale will be held on
June 4 when an estimated 650,
000 board feet will be offered
for sale along the Galice access
road in Josephine county. This
sale is planned for the purpose
of removing trees that are haz
ardous to travel on the newly
constructed access road.
On June 13 eight tracts con
taining an estimated 30,203,000
board feet will be offered for
sale. Four of these sales are lo
cated in Jackson county, two in
Josephine county and one each
in Douglas and Klamath coun
ties. .
Seven more tracts with a vol
ume of approximately 27,700,
000 board feet will be offered
for sale on June 20. Three of
these sales are located in Jack
son county, two in Josephine
county and one each in Douglas
and Klamath counties.

Phoenix Night Set
At X-Ray Clinic
Phoenix social and service
organizations are sponsoring
"Phoenix X-Ray Night," Mon
day, May 20, according to the
Jackson County Public Health
association, which operates the
clinic at. Sacred Heart hospital.
Mrs. M. O. Grove, a member
of the board of the association,
has made arrangements with all
Phoenix PTA, Grange, church
and civic organizations to ad
vise their members of the spe
cial opening of the chest x-ray
clinic.
Phoenix school children have
been given notices to take to
their parents urging them to
take advantage of this oppor
tunity. The clinic will be open for
Phoenix residents from 7 to 9
p.m.

For Bids on Property
Phoenix Phoenix school dis
trict 4 is calling for bids on sale
of the Wagner Creek school
house with approximately one
acre of land, it was reported
Saturday.
The school house and proper
ty are located on Wagner Creek
rd. at Talent. Bids will be
opened at the next regular meet
ing of the school, directors on
Monday, June 10, according to
E. R. James, superintendent of
Phoenix schools.
