THOMASINE SMITH Eagle Point Regina Kram- beal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith- Krambeal, placed second in the Western Pleasure Pony class at the Grants Pass spring horse show Sunday, May 12. Bill Morgan, son of James P. Morgan, placed seventh in the men's West ern Pleasure class. Sam Keim placed second in the Palamino class and Ruth Shama took third in the Palamino class. Working as a duet, Keim and Shama took fourth in the Matched Pairs class. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Olsen cele brated their 30th wedding anni versary on Mother's day. Mr. and Mrs. Don Geren re turned from Crescent City. Sun day, after spending Mother's day weekend at the coast. Debra Lynn, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Jackson, was released from the hospital May 14. Debra was born April 23 and underwent surgery May 4 for a stomach closure. The baby is reported to be doing fine. Mr. and Mrs. Merle McGraw, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chamberlain, and Mr. and Mrs. Vinson Vaughn entertained eight couples at a ham buffet Saturday evening at the erle McGraw home. This was one of the last in a series of fund raisers that members have been giving for the Eagle Point Ele mentary PTA. man and Norman Hooper quali fied at this meet to compete at the State track meet in Corvallis this weekend. The four boys, Tom Collette and their coach, Stan Smith, will leave for Cor vallis Thursday afternoon. Shirley Hanson and Ellen Cal lagahan accompanied by Miss Virginia Cox, Physical Education Instructor, ; will leave Thursday May 16, for Corvallis to compete in the State tennis tournament. The Eagle Point senior class will present their annual senior class play, "Strictly Formal", Tuesday, May 21, for students and will give an evening per formance Wednesday May 22, at 8 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. The junior-senior prom and smorgasbord will be held in the grade school gymnasium May 24. Baccalaureate will be held May 26 at 8:00 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Award night is scheduled for Monday, May 27 at the high school for the purpose of pre senting scholastic achievement awards earned by students this year. Pulp-Paper Union To Vote on New Pact Portland TP) Labor and manage ment representatives from 45 Pacific coast pulp and paper mills Wednesday reached a tentative agreement on a new contract The new contract, which of fers a ZVi per cent general wage increase averaging 9V cents an hour, is being submitted to a referendum vote of the union membership. The agreement was made by the . United Papermakers and Paperworkers and the Interna tional Brotherhood of Pulp, Sul phite and Paper Mill workers wjth the Pacific Coast associa tion of Pulp and Paper manu facturers. The increases, if approved, would give 19,429 hourly paid workers in Washington, Oregon a nr. California a total pay boost of $3,859,000 a year. Individual hikes would give men a base rate of $2.01 and for women $1 70. Journeymen mechanics would get $2.72V4 an hour. Wednesday, May 29, Eagle Point High school seniors will re ceive their diplomas. May 30 is a school holiday and on May 31 the school doors will close. Mrs. Jim Clarks will be at the city hall this week while Mrs. Stan Smith, recorder, takes Dane (Butchie) Smith,, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Smith, entered the Josephine General hospital in ' time" off to care' for her young urants -rass weanesaay, iviay ia, for surgery early Thursday morning. He is expected to De released from the hospital Sun day or Monday. A group of youngsters got to gether recently at the home of Dana Smith to plan entertain ment for the men at Camp White. They presented their program Tuesday evening. Participating in the program were Tom Per due, Aedene Jensen, Bonnie, Con nie and Vonnie Goering, Joannie Callaghan, Sandy Charters, Don na Geren, Donna Whitman, Car rol West, Richard Hertager, Ron nie and Georgie Wiedman, Doug Smith, Dawn Clark and Linda Weitman. The regular Eagle Point Ele mentary PTA meeting will be held Tuesday, May 28, at 8 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Child care will be provided by Camp, Fire girls. The program will be the Spring Music Festival. There will be a visitation day May 29 for children entering the first grade this fall. Children and pai ents are invited from 11:00 'to 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be avail able in the school cafeteria at 20 cents per child and 30 cents for adults. There will be no bus service available. son. Dale Ackerman entered the Sacred Heart hospital for surg ery on his knee. Tuesday, May 14. Ackerman will be confined for a week. Ray Tresham, another school board member, is now at home after undergoing two oper ations. Mrs. Dave Kahl, Mrs. Emery Cunningham and Mrs. James Eadge of Eagle Point, attended the International Child Evange list Teacher Training meeting held a Fresno, Calif., May 6 through May 11. The ladies visit ed Yosemite Park and stayed at the home of Mrs. Lyle Welch while in Fresno. . Another surprise for Mr. and Mrs. Jake Olsen on their 30th wedding anniversary was the un expected visit of Mr. and Mrs. Chy Callagahan, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Hopper and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hale. Tuesay evening the group finished off the evening with bridge and refeshments. Lumber Employees To Continue Talks Portland (IB Federal medi ators said today another meet ing probably would be sched uled soon between lumber em ployees and officials represent ing some 35,000 members of the International Woodworkers of America. Talks on a new contract fail ed to produce agreement Wed nesday. t" Woodworkers have a two-year contract running to next April with a provision for a wage re opening this year. Mrs. Brophy is at the home of her son, Jack Brophy, and may have visitors. The Eaele Point Community church honored a large number of mothers at their Mothers Day services Sunday.
