Memorial Poppies Made by Veterans For Annual Event Memorial poppies which will be worn here on Poppy Days, May 24 and 25, have been made by disabled veterans of three wars at the Camp White Dom iciliary, Mrs. Clark Walker, pop py chairman of Medford unit of the American Legion auxiliary, announced today as the auxili ary completed arrangements for the annual observance of Poppy Day here. , Making poppies to be worn in honor of their fallen comrades has given the hospitalized veter ans interesting and beneficial employment during the winter and spring Mrs. Walker points out. The little red flowers of re membrance have been made for the auxiliary' in veterans hos pitals throughout the country, and in poppy workrooms main tained by the auxiliary to give employment to disabled veter ans outside the hospitals. "Poppy making helps bright en the dreary hospital hours and for many veterans contributes to recovery by providing an in teresting occupation," said Mrs. Walker. "The veterans are paid by the auxiliary for the poppies they make and this gives them the encouraging experience of earning money once more of being able to send money home to their families. More poppies worn on Poppy Day means more employment for disabled veter ans during the coming year." . Mrs. Ted Flury Hostess for Club Eagle Point ' Officers for Eagle Point Garden club were elected Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Ted Flury. Mrs. Charles Cushman assisted Mrs. Flury. Following the business meet ing the afternoon was spent in hunting driftwood along the Rogue River. ( The June meeting will be held in Hawthorne park in Medford. In Chelan Bren H. Starcher returned to his home on South Stage road last week after spending sever-j al days with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle B. Starcher, Chelan. Last Sun day he attended the first an nual Apple Cup motorboat rac es, held on Lake Chelan. The event, attended by a crowd estimated at 85,000 per sons, was televised by three dif ferent Washin gton - stations. About 225 attended the event. Three of the models (pictured above, left to right) were Miss Carolyn Kent, daughter of the John Kents, wearing a 65-year-old gown belonging to Mrs. Frank Greaser; Mies Susan Garner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Garner, wearing the gown in which her mother married in 1936. and Mrs. Roy Gilbertson, wearing a wedding dress made by her grandmother and worn by Mrs. Gilbertson's mother and then by Mrs. Gilbertson herself. Mothers' Day Program The Rev. Raymond Balcomb, pastor of First Methodist church, gave the devotional at the last meeting of Woman's Christiari Temperance Union. Mrs. Robert Taylor was chair man for a Mother's day program and Mrs. J. A. McDougal sang accompanied by Mrs. R. A. Schu chard. Mrs. Minnie Bryant gave a report of the workshop and state WCTU convention held re cently in Portland which she attended. May 12, 1957 Speakers' Group To Hear Reports Reports of the mtet-council and regional conferences of Toastmistress clubs will be given at the Tuesday, May 14, meeting, of the group at radio station KBOY at 7:45 p.m. The conferences, held i n Grants Pass and Eugene, were attended by Mrs. Clarence Wil son, immediate past president of Council 4, Mrs. Jasper Vander steen, local president, and Mrs. Ethel Mclntyre from the local group. The group will meet in the church annex, and a nursery will be furnished for pre-school children. The mission program, in charge of Mrs. Erwin Peters, will simulate an around the world trip to the mission fields. To be visited will be stations Italy, Portugal, India, Congo, and Japan.
