MAIL TRIBUNE Wednesday, Mar 8. 1937 Soviet To Be Asked For Explanation Moscow (U;R) American Charge D' Affaires John Guthrie said he .would ask the Soviet Foreign ministry today for an explanation of its order expell ing U.S. Embassy Secretary Mar tin Bowe Jr. The Foreign Ministry charged Bowe with "conduct unbecoming a diplomat" in a note declaring him persona non grata Tuesday but gave no reason for its charge. Bowe, a native of Holyoke, Mass., is the fifth American dip lomat expelled from Russia this year. He has served in Mosco-v three years and recently was promoted to second secretary after serving as attache in charge of administration. London Gets Warning Of Polio Epidemic Londan (U.R) A warning of a possible polio epidemic was j issued byt he Health Ministry to day. Figures for the first four months of this year were higher than in the epidemic year of 1950 when 7,760 cases were re ported. German Church To Refuse Communisfs Berlin (U.R) Bishop Otto Dibelius, titular head of the German Evangelical church, told Germans Tuesday the churcn will refuse o confirm youths who take part in atheist Com munist youth consecration cera monies. The evangelical bishop of Ber lin and the Soviet zone province of Brandenburg read his state ment in East Berlin's Marieti kirche in the heart of Berlin's Soviet sector. He said youths are free to de cide between Christian confir mation and the Communist rites but the church will not con firm anyone who goes through the Red youth ceremony. Dibelius also reported the church is short of pastors in the Soviet zone because the Com munists will not permit clergy men to move from West Ger many to East Germany. Cavemen Visit Boys Ranch on Applegate Mr. and Mrs. Ern Ellsworth and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lott, owners of the Applegate Vaca tion Ranch for boys between 8 and 12 years old, recently served a barbecue dinnr to about 40 Grants Pass Cavemen. The ranch, which is located three miles from Murphy on the South Side rd. on the Applegate river, will open June 2 for weekly or longer reservations, Mrs. Ellsworth said. The ' camp will be open until Spt. 18. The camp program includes all types of outdoor sports, outdoor cooking and sleeping in a bunk house, Mrs. Ellsworth said. Mrs. Ellsworth this week ap peared on station KBES-TV as a guest of Gretchen Wade on Feminine Fancies. She demon strated how to make Chow Mein. Speech Students Attend Club Lunch Jerry McDougal, speech in-1 ductory remarks that the older structor at Hedrick Junior High school, presented three speech students at a meeting of the Medford Rotary club Tuesday noon. McDougal noted in his intro- generation would do well to recognize talents of teenagers rather than to criticize their faults.
