Sixty years old and never had

record of a New Yorker. Imag
ine never havina had a tooth-

the ominous rattling of the den

minor ailments, my nomination
for the worst is the toothache
After that, the common cold.
Then a carbuncle. I have never

Diet
The poet Byron was Inclined
to become fat. That was a tragic
situation for a man who fancied
himself a great lover. So Byron
frequently battled his bulges. In
so doing he went on a diet of
potatoes sprinkled with vinegar.
It was an effective weight re
ducer. There's an idea for a wife
who is considering streamlining
a husband so she will not be
ashamed of his appearance in
a bathing suit this summer. In
stead of, steak to go with his
baked potato just give the old
boy a little vinegar to sprinkle
on the spud. ' .

All You Can Eat
Food prices keep rising. And
rising. Yet there are still cour
ageous restaurateurs operating
on an "All You Can Eat" policy.
In Greenwich Village, Manhat
tan, one restaurant offers an
"All You Can Eat" sirloin steak
dinner for $2.35. Many cus
tomers of this place consume
the equivalent of two steak din
ners at one sitting for one price.
The record is five. ' Incidentally,
a man and wife from the Bronx
ate four steak dinners each. Also
Los Angeles still has a few "All
You Can Eat" restaurants. One
brave fellow there offers all the
smorgasbord you can eat for $2.
Another offers all the roast beef,
baked ham or roast turkey you
can eat for $1.85. This offer
includes vegetables, dessert and
coffee.
Retirement
Men in their middle 50s are
frequently advised against re
tirement on the grounds that it
will decrease longevity. That
applies only to men so wrapped
up in their business that they
have no other interests. Men
with hobbies and a variety of
interests usually live long. Take
Izaak Walton, who was a Lon
don businessman when he re
tired at the age of 50. He lived
to be 90. He enjoyed 40 years
of leisure. His hobby, as you
know, was fishing. He also likd
to write. The first edition of his
classic "The Compleat Angler'
was published when he was 60.
Ha wrote a fifth edition when
83.
Dogs
What breed of sporting dogs
is the best retriever? That's what
a Baltimorean asks. I don't fe?l
qualified to answer this query.
However, it is difficult to top
the springer spaniel as a retriev
er. Some springers have such
"gentle jaws" for retrieving they
can carry an egg witSout break
ing it.
