FOURTEEN MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, Mar S, 1937 NEWS NOTES from Medford High School Edited by James Boyd; staff: Jacque Collon, Linda Robert son, and Bob Bright. It is now less than a week until the junior-senior proai, and the tension mounts every day as dates are confirmed or refused. The study halls are buzzing with a continual and confidential, "You should see my new dress:" or, "Those girls don't realize how hard it is to rent a white dinner jacket!" The junior prom committees have been meeting frequently to make the final plans for the big event. They have guarded the theme particularly well this year. Tnere haven't even been rumors about it. . The Medford Lions club and the YMCA have planned an after-prom party which will beg'n immediately after the dance and continue until the "wee small" hours of the morning. All YMCA facilities will be available for those who attend and a substan tial breakfast will be served be tween 2 and 3 a.m. The junior-senior banquet at the Jackson hotel, general chair man Don Strong reports, will be open to all who do not attend the prom. This banquet and va riety show is being sponsored by about ten of the valley's churches and is designed to sup plement the prom. The event, starting at 7:30 p.m.. May 11, is being advised by the Rev. Hadden Robinson, youth director of the First Bap tist church, and committee heads are Terry Hughes and Jer-y Kime. I Have you been present during an operation, even if you didn't watch? Twenty members of the Future Nurses of Amer ica and their adviser, Mrs. Juanita Anderson, watched a minor surgery at the Veterans hospital when they toured the buildings April 30. After viewing the surgery and the rooms connected with it, Miss K. N. Stuhr showed the girls various other points of interest. Five Medford High students presented with watches at tlie Elk's Youth Day activities last Thursday. Pat Leek, Sue Donna Doolen, Bill Frake, Bruce West, and John Reeder were the hon ored students. After the presentation the students- adjourned to the Elks party room where there was dancing and refreshments. As one student put it, "Those Elks sure know teenagers. They let; the dance floor nice and dark.': The party must have been a success. Salesman Turns Table In Divorce Suit Case Hollywood (U.R) Donald W. Miller, 31, a salesman, has turned the tables on the usual course of events in domestic re lations court. Miller Friday asked S850 monthly alimony from his actress-wife, Beverly Miller, on charges that she had "discour aged." him from working since their marriage in 1954. Chain Letters Illegal, Postmaster Declares Chaki letters, whether or not they make an appeal for money, are considered illegal by the post office department, accord ing to Postmaster Moore Ham ilton. A new one, which is a "pray er for luck," has been reported received in Medford, and the postmaster's comment was with reference to it. At the worst, the chain let ters are out-and-out frauds and rackets, and at best are nuis ances, the postal official declar ed. Some of them prey upon su perstitions, or religious fears or prejudices, a.nd the post office department has declared them all illegal, he said. The one reported being re ceived in Medford promises the recipient "good luck within four days" if the "chain remains un broken," and urges that four more identical letters be mailed out "within 24 hours." Pakistan, Philippines Reaffirmed Peace Move Manila (U.R) Pakistan and the Philippines Saturday re affirmed their determination to strengthen the fabric of peace and freedom in this part of the world. A joint statement issued by Filipino President Carlos P.
