Officer To Wed in June; ?so Parties Held Mrs. Dorothy Dowson, 47 South Berkeley way, has an runced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of her Saughter, Harriett Elizabeth, to Lt. Fred Cutter van Bebber, son of Mrs. Ralph van Bebber of Lawrence, Kan. A June wedding is planned. Miss Dowson, a 1955 gradu ate of the College of the Pacific, Stockton, Calif., is now teach ing in the elementary school system of Sacramento, Calif. Lt. van Bebber is an officer in the United States Air Force and is stationed at Sacramento. He was graduated in 1954 from Kansas university where he was a mem ber of Sigma Chi social fra ternity. Miss Dowson is in Medford for the Easter vacation, and her fiance arrived Friday to spend the week end here. During the week the bride elect was honord at two bridal parties. Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Gordon MacKenzie and Mrs. Hugh Collins were hostesses for a shower party which compli mented Miss Dowson, entertain ing at the MacKenzie home, 1616 East Main street. Bridge follow ed dessert, and Miss Dowson was presented gifts for her new home. The serving table was center ed with a parasol trimmed with ivy and camellias and the small tables Avere decorated with bridal dolls and nosegays of fresh blossoms. Romeo and Ju liet figurines stood on the mantle. Twenty guests attended. Friday afternoon Mrs. B. L. Nutting and Mrs. Austin Lay mance gave, a luncheon and kitchen shower for the bride-to-be, inviting friends to the Nutt ing home on Glenn Oak court. 'Sixteen guests attended. Appointments were in pink, and a pink umbrella was deco rated with heather sprays. Pink blossoms were floated in a bowl for the table centerpiece. Annual Tea of Cancer Society To Be Wednesday at Hillcrest One of the important events- of this week will be the annual silver tea of the Medford chapter, American Cancer society, to be held at Hillcrest orchards Wednesday, April 24, from 2 until 4:30 o'clock. Chapter members will be assisted by members of the Jackson County unit of the Cancer society. - Theme for this years tea "Babies of Yesteryear," a sequel to last year's theme which was "Bride of Yesteryear." Many ar ticles of infant apparel will be on display, and some of the christening robes to be shown date back 100 years. In addition, guests will be able to see antique baby furniture and silver cups used by past generations of babies. Many organizations are con tributing displays for the two contests which will be held this year at the tea. One contest will be for dolls of yesteryear; the other contest will be for flower arrangements. There will be blue ribbons given for first and This Is Your Life To Be Show Theme Final plans for the annual style show and luncheon will be made at a meeting of Kiwanian Dames to be held at the home of Mrs. Eugene Orr on the Old Military road Tuesday, April 23. Luncheon will be served at 12 noon with Mrs. C. Lyall Fid ler, Mrs. William J. Peek, Mrs. Anthony R. Manno and Mrs. I. Mirick as assistant hostesses. Those wishing transportation are asked to tall Mrs. Richard Phair, 2-5049. or Mrs. Keva Hutchinson, 3-1606. The luncheon and show will be held at Rogue Valley Coun try club May 6. The committee has announced "This Is Your Life' as the theme. Reservations may be made by calling the club, 2-5965, before Friday, May 3. -Miss Nadra Moore Honored Guest At Bridal Party Gold Hill Miss Nadra Moore was honored April 16 at a bridal shower at the home of Mrs. A. A. Walker on Second avenue. Mrs. Walker had created a life sized bride and bridegroom for the occasion. They were placed in front of the fireplace, behind the gift table, at which Miss Moore opened her gifts assisted by her sister, Mrs. Derwin Ma pie of Central Point. Hostesses were Mrs. A. A. Walker, Mrs. Delos Walker, Mrs. Norman Gail, Mrs. Wilmer Bail ey and Mrs. Paul Thompson. : More than 50 guests attended. 4 Pledqed Eugene Miss Deanna Camp bell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Engaged to Wed Mrs. Matthew Ripfl, 1123 Da kota avenue, announces the en gagement of her daughter, Mar garet Ann, to William Frank Perl Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. William Frank Perl, 136 North. Oakdale avenue. A late summer wedding is planned. " Mrs. Ripfl and her daughters came to Medford a year ago from Winnipeg, Canada, and Miss Ripfl is a student at Med ford High school. She will be graduated in June. Mr. Perl is a graduate of Med ford High school and the Univer sity of Oregon. He is a member of Phi Delta Theta social frater nity. Following graduation he was commissioned in the United States Air Force and served with the Strategic Air command in England for two years as a first lieutenant. He is associated with his father, in business. second prizes in each contest, and the .winners of each contest will be decided by the ballots of the guests. One ingenious val ley resident has planned a flow er arrangement which will fea ture an old doll. The tea table will be decorat ed in pink and ivory, and the baby theme will be used in the table decorations. The women who will pour have been chosen because of their service to the community in a variety of civic and health organizations. Medford chapter of the Ameri can Cancer society was founded 10 years, ago, and several of the 14 members of the chapter have been active from its inception. Committee members, all of whom are working on the tea preparations are Mrs. Russell G. Barnes. Mrs. L. W. Bates, Mrs. Fred Burich, Mrs. Ray Cas terline, Mrs. John S. Miss June Pike was among students receiving offices when student body elections were re cently held at Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Portland. Miss Pike, 1956 graduate of Medford High, school, was elect ed as annual editor for the 19o7 Beaver. Miss Pike, editor of the Medford Hi-Times last year, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs, James H. Miss Russell is a graduate of Medford High' school an is a student in the college of educa tion at Lewis and Clark college in Portland. Mr. Harrison, a senior at Lewis and Clark college, is president of the Palatinean society, vice president of Blue Key, national men's honorary society, and reli gious activity - commissioner on the student council. He plans to enter the University of Oregon medical school at Portland in the fall. No date has been set for the wedding. Group Initiates Sonja Peterson Salem Miss Sonja Peterson, Medford, was initiated into Wil lamette university's chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta at cere monies held last Tuesday eve ning. Requirements for mem bership in this national women's scholastic honorary society in clude a grade point average of 3.5 or better. A freshman majoring in mu sic, Miss Peterson is a 1956 graduate of Medford high school. To raise funds for the kindergarten for deaf children which the league operates, plans are being made for a house tour on Tues day, June 4. Hours will be from 2 to 5 o'clock. A group of outstanding homes will be chosen for the tour, which will be open to the pub lic. It is especially hoped that newcomers will be interested in seeing such homes. The tour will conclude with tea in one of the homes.
