SIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Church News Ordination Services Held At Griffin Creek Grange Ordination services were held Sunday for the Rev. Tyley O. Evans of Central Point, pastor of the Griffin Creek Union Sun day school. More than 100 persons atten ded the service held at the Grif fin Creek grange hall with the Rev. Raymond P. Targgart, Korthwest supervisor for the American Sunday school Union, in charge. He was principal speaker at the service. The Rev. Paul Korron, pastor of the Community Bible church. Central Point, gave the invoca- Three Services at Presbylerian The First Presbyterian church will hold three identical worship services Easter Sunday morning, at 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m. Dr. D. Kirkland West, pastor of the church, will preach on the topic, "Life's Greatest Promise." At the 8:30 service, the West minster and children's choirs will sing two anthems,' and Miss Kathy Barr will sing the solo, "There Is a Green Hill Far Away." At the 9:45 and 11 a.m. services, the chancel choir will sing two anthems, and a quar tette composed of Mrs. Stanley Lacy, Miss Sharon Walsh, Otis Swisher and Lynn Sjolund will sing "Come Unto Him" from the "Triumph of the Cross." The church will be decorated with memorial Easter lilies giv en by members and friends of the church. After the Easter sunrise ser vice at 6 a.m., the Senior High young people will eat breakfast at the Rogue Valley Packing cor poration, 13th and South Front sis. The Junior High young peop le will have breakfast at the same time at the church. The evening service at 7 p.m. will feature the film "Golgotha." This is a full length film telling the inspiring narrative of the last days on earth of Jesus of Nazareth. On Sunday morning, the Sun day school will make a special effort to go have the 600 mark in attendance. The morning worship service will have two Easter messages bv the choir, "The Strife is O'er" and "Hosanna." Mrs. Herbert Hunter will be the solo ist. The Rev. James Neely will speak on, "Resurrection Faith Makes A Difference." The evening service will also feature Easter music. The youth choir will sing "God So Loved the World," and the ladies trio will also present Easter medita tions in music. The evening ser mon by the pastor will be "Re surrection Faith Demands Service." D. D. Randall, retired mis sionary of the American Sunday school Union. Music was provided by the Rev. Billy Mallon of the "Re gion Beyond Mission," and the Rev. George Martin from Won der. The service was closed with the benediction by Joe Gray of the Community Bible church, Among the visiting pastors was the Rev. Lester Wilcox of the Forest Acres Community church. Sunday school classes are held at the Griffin Creek grange hall each Sunday at 10 a.m. followed by the worship service at 11. The services held at the hall are non-denominational and are sponsored by the American Sun day school Union, Early Service Planned at Zion . Easter at Zion Lutheran church, ULCA, Fourth and Oak dale, will be celebrated with two services in the church. The early service at 6 a.m. will be the same as the 11 a.m. service and it is held for those who like to experience the "early as it be gan to dawn" aspect of the cele bration. The choir, under the direction of Oscar Bjorlie, will sing, "The Lord Is Risen Today" with Mrs. Lorraine Evensen, organist. The pastor of the church, G. H. Hillerman, will preach on "God's Power through Christ to You". Between the two worship services, the Sunday school will hold its celebration of Easter be ginning at 9:45 a.m. For this day all departments and classes of the school will meet in the church. All persons will be welcomed to any or all of the services of the church. 'The Holy City' Scheduled in Ashland Sunday Afternoon Ashland The oratorio, "The Holy City," will be presented Sunday at 5 pjn. by the 30-voice choir of the First Methodist church of Ashland. Mrs. H. E. Marsh of Medford, substitute organist for the church ,during the absence of the regular v organist, will be guest organist for the service. The choir is directed by Mrs. Delia Weber. The public is in vited to attend. LENTEN MONOLOGUE The fourth and last in the Lenten Monologue series on KBES-TV, "Thomas the Doubt er", will be presented at 3:40 p.m., Saturday, April 20. The Rev. G. A. Trobough is narrator, with John Lusk, at the organ. Mr. Trobough is associate min ister of the First Methodist church. Friday April 19, I9S7 Community Service Set by Methodists At Hedrick High The Community Easter ser vice, to be held at the Hedrick Junior High school auditorium, will be at 11 a.m., with Dr. Ray mond E. Balcomb preaching. The sermon will be "What Do You Know For Sure?" The three choirs of the First Methodist church, the adult chancel choir, the youth choir, and the children's choir will join to bring the Easter music, "All Glory, Laud, and Honor," and "Now Let All the Heavens Adore." Other services to be conduct ed at the First Methodist church will include a service at 8 a.m. with the music by the youth choir, and the girls trio, with Karen Slonigher, Rosemary Doolen and Sue Donna Doolen. They will sing, "Alleluia! Hearts to Heaven Raise," and the choir will sing, "The Strife is O'er." Dr. Balcomb will deliver the same sermon at the three serv ices, at 8, 9:30, and 11 a.m. At all three services, the crib and nursery will be held as well as the kindergarten. At the 11 a.m. service at Hed rick Junior High, the regular primary church group will meet and will be guided by Mrs. John Kent. The Rev. G. A. Tro bough, associate minister, will assist in the three services. On Sunday at 4 p.m., in the church, a baptismal service will be conducted. The children's choir will sing and Mr. Trobough will give the charge to the par ents. Junior High MYF and Senior High MYF will meet at 5:30 and at 7 p.m. These youth groups are cooperating in the sunrise ser vice to be held at Heuner's Butte at 6 a.m. The public is invited to these services. Nazarene Features Three Choirs Easter worship services at the First Church of the Nazarene, 520 North Holly st., Medford, will feature three of the church choirs. A junior choir of boys and girls, ages 9 to 11, with 59 voic es will sing "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today." A 75-voice speak ing choir of boys and girls of primary ages, 6 to 8, will pre sent the scripture "Resurrection Story" from Matthew. Combin ed youth and sanctuary choirs will sing the "King of Kings." The Rev. Raymond W. Hum, pastor, will present th Easter sermon. New members will be received into the church at the morning worship service. At 6 p.m., under the direction of W. Le Mansveld, minister of music, the church musicians will present an Easter vesper service of music. At 7:15 p.m. Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Stark, medical missionaries to Africa, will speak briefly in their final serv ice before leaving the United States for another term of serv ice in the African mission field. Services Set (or Eastwood Baptist The children of Eastwood Bap tist church school will present an Easter program Sunday at 9:45 a.m., with parents and fri ends invited to attend. Easter songs and choral readings by the kindergarten, primary, j u n i or and junior high age groups will be presented. "No Longer Afraid!" is the theme of the Rev. Richard M. Jones' sermon at 11 a.m. The children's choir will sing during this service and the adult choir will sing the anthem, "I know That My Redeemer Liveth." Nursery care is provided. The Eastwood Baptist church is affiliated with the American Baptist convention and is located north of the Hedrick Junior High school. Two Worship Services Sunday at Christian There will : be two identical worship services Sunday at the First Christian church; one at 8:30 and the second at 10:50 a.m. The Rev. William C. Piper has chosen for his subject "The Battle over the Empty Tomb." C. Warren Fairbanks will sing the solo "The Living God" and the chancel choir will sing the anthem "Nearer the Cross." At 7:30 p.m. the chancel choir under the direction of Mr. Fair banks will present the cantata "Eastertide." Solo parts will be taken by Mrs. Gloria Smith, Mrs. Derold McDonald, Mrs. Ralph Matlack, William Preston, and Mr. Fairbanks. A duet will be given by Mrs. A. F. Hotho and Marme Olson. A quartette num ber will be sung by Mrs. Vera L. Selby, Mrs. McDonald, Mr. Olson and Neal Curry. Speak ing parts will be by R. D. Church, Steve Parrish,. and Mr. Curry. Mark's Easter services at St. Mark's Episcopal church will begin with the traditional sunrise choral eucharist at 6:30 a.m.. It will be followed by the family Easter communion service at 9 a.m., full choral eucharist at 11 a.m. and close with the - children's Easter floral service at 4 p.m. At the 9 a.m. service St. Mark's choristers, directed by Miss Marcia Houghton and Mrs Ann Wirkkula, with Miss Lou Elsa Voegtly at the organ, will lead the music, and the Rev. John Bright, assistant to the Rector will preach on "A Mean ingful Miracle." The congregation is invited to attend a coffee hour in the Mark ade following this service. The 4 p.m. children's service will feature the traditional "Flowering of the Cross" and the presentation of the Lenten mite boxes. A short Easter mes sage will be given by Mr. Bright at this service. Following an old custom at St. Mark's all children attending this service will receive a potted pansy plant as they leave the church. Some children have accumulated ten or more such plants over the years. Apostolic Faith Youth To Give Program The young people of the Sun day school at The Apostolic Faith church, Third and Central, will portray "The Empty Tomb" at the 9:30 Sunday school hour, Easter morning. They will use as a background for the different scenes, Mrs. Isaac Shults' paint ing of the garden and the tomb. The young people depicting the ' participants in that first Easter morning are Janice Rob inson, Mary Magdalene; Linda Carver, the other Mary; David Wolf, the angel who rolls the stone away; Ronnie Wallace, Pe ter; Milton O'Neill, John, and Marilyn Gilman and Susanne Cearley, the two angels in the tomb. The appropriate scriptures will be read by Cliff Friesen, Paul Andrews and Cal Wolf. A feature of the Sunday morn ing service will be the 35-piece orchestra. ' It will present "I Know That My Redeemer Liv eth," and in the evening meet ing the combined choruses of the church will sing "Unfold Ye Portals," accompanied by the orchestra.
