SIXTEEN MEDTORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Friday, April It, 1137 Some Postal Cuts Said Unnecessary Washington (UP1 Rep. J. Vaughan Gary (D-Va.), laid Thursday there is no need for Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield to continue some of the postal cuts he made dur ing his squabble with Congress. Gary, chairman of the House Appropriations subcommittee on postal funds, said Summerfield certainly should be able to re store full service with the $41 million Congress gave him. "He's running the post office. The Congress is not," Gary told the United Press. "Any cuts are his responsibility." Gary added that if Summer field can't get by with the money Congress allowed him "we'll probably have to give him the Treasury." Summerfield retained two service cuts after Congress ap propriated S6 million less than the S47 million he asked to run the postal service until the cur rent fiscal year ends June 30- Post office windows remain on a reduced 8'2-hour daily schedule and business area de liveries are limited to two in stead of the previous three a day. Other curtailments were re stored ' chiefly Saturday mail deliveries and Saturday post office service which will be back to normal this Saturday. Grants Pass Police Hold California Men Grants Pass (U.R) Two young California men were be ing held here today for Multno mah county authorities in con nection with the burglary early Wednesday of a. tavern. Police identified them as Ray burn Glenn Surrett, 20, who gave his address as El Cerrito, Calif., and Wayne LeRoy Arm strong, 25, Compton, Calif. Police said their car became stuck in a ditch north of Grants Pass at midnight Wednesday The tow car operator called to free their car became suspicious when they paid him in quarters Police said they were suspected of the burglary of the Night-Cap tavern in Portland early Wed nesday. Some $41.99 in small change plus chewing gum and cigarettes were found in the car.
