WATSON Shady Cove-Trail There will be a Fancy Easter food sale Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Shady Cove Cleaners sponsored by Our Lady of Fatima club. The sale will feature fancy breads and rolls, cakes, pies, homemade candies and colored eggs. Eugene Rogers, ion of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rogers of Elk creek, Trail, has been visiting his par ents and family for the past 10 days. He has discontinued col lege temporarily and is work ing at Yountville, Calif. On his return trip he went to Paradise, Calif., where he visited his fi ance. Miss Jean Yeoman, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Yeoman. He drove Miss Yeoman to Highland Children's hospital, Oakland, where she is enrolled as a nursing student. Mrs. Alma Ruthstrom of Elk creek, Trail, is much improved from injuries suffered in an' ac cident in which her husband. Earl Ruthstrom was killed last fall. She still has a brace on her back and does not know when she will be released to return home. She is now con valescing in Gibbon, Nebr. Hoppe's Florists of Medford have established a flower agency in Shady Cove at the Treasure Trove with flowers for all oc casions. Potted Easter lilies and nlant are on display at The Treasure Trove for the Easter season. Mr. and Mrs. Athel Dudley of Shady Cove attended funeral services for her father, George Redmond Satur day. Mr. Rader died in Redmond Wednesay. Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Augustus, mother of John Witt of Sunset-on-the-Rogue, Trail, were held in Medford Moday. Mr. and Mrs. Joel Hurd of Lake Hughes, Calif., have been house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kennedy of Kennedy's Mar ket, Shady, Cove. The Hurd's own and operate a Trading Post t Lake Hughes. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Martin have returned home after spend ing three months visiting in Ari zona and southern California Martin owns the Shady Cove barber shop. The reeular meeting of the Shadv Cove Garden club was held Monday, April 8, at the home of Mrs. O. L. Williams with Mrs. Delbert Spain and Mrs. Floyd Kelley acting as co hostesses. Mrs. Edwin Strother, president, was present after an absence of three months because of illness. Twenty-five members were present. Mrs. Floyd Kelley, pro gram chairman, introduced rvuioiai Raker, district ranger of Union Creek, and Mrs. Bak r. Announcements of the various spring shows of valley garden clubs were made. Refreshments were served. Mrs. John Collins and Mrs. "Milton Woods chaperoned the sixth grade of the Shady Cove school on their trip through the offices of the Mail Tribune and to the Medford airport. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jantzer of Central Point entertained at their home with a dinner party recently. Following the dinner the hosts showed colored slides of their Canadian trip last sum mer. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove and Mr. and Mrs. Gaston Floux and Edwin Gebhard of Central Point. Mrs. Vivian Craig of Moscow, Ida., visited at the home of her nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Clark of Big Butte creek, Trail. Attending the boat races at Emigrant lake Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Spain, their daughter, Delberta, and son, Bruce. The Shady Cove-Trail Fire de partment was called Thursday evening, April 11, to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Minor. Mrs. Minor had been cooking in her oven when it caught on fire. No damage was sustained except to the oven and from smoke. The regular meeting of Our Lady of Fatima club will be held Thursday evening, April 18, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Bill Leekey, Far Hills rsfnch, with Mrs. Dale Goodman as hostess. Mrs. Glenn Anderton of Trail and Mrs. Pearl Adair of Shady Cove attended a birthday party given for Mrs. Bob Alworth at her home in Medford Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Clemens of Grants Pass were recent din ner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove. Other guests Sunday were Lt. Cmdr. and Mrs. Orvis of Wimer. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ford and son, Henry, of Butte Falls vis ited at the home of Ford's moth er and family, Mr. and Mrs. Johnie Minor of Shady Cove Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jantzer and daughter, Janice, of Phoe nix, Ariz., visited friends and relatives in the area Saturday. Jimmy Wayman of Shady Cove will go to Portland May 4 and 5 to compete for the Na tional Guard in a rifle shoot. Johnny Langston of Sacra mento is staying with his grand mother, Mrs. Clara Thurman, of Shady Cove and attending school at Shady Cove. . Mr! and Mrs. H. C. Tolle of Oakland, Calif., have been visit ing Mrs. Tolle's sister and hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Strother of Shady Cove. Also visiting the Strothers was their nephew. Bob Tuttle, of Etna, Calif. George Jess and his sons. Bill Jess and Bud Jess, of Eagle Point, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bartuss recently. Other guests have been Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carson of Santa Monica and Shady Cove. The Bartusses are expecting Mrs. Bartuss's mother, Mrs. Lola Joy ner, of Ventura, Calif., ' her brother-in-law, Claude Richards and niece, Judy Richards, of Fullerton, Calif., for the Easter holidays. Mrs. Walter Cross of Shady Cove has returned from a trip to San Francisco and the bay area. In San Francisco she saw her sister, Mrs. A. Alcayaga, who underwent major surgery recently and stayed with' her nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Alcayaga of San Francisco. She also -visited with her sisters, Mrs. Mae Grisez of San Francisco and with her sis and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McNaughton of San Rafael, Calif. She visited her niece, Mrs. J. Garsowvich, of Palo Alto. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Boothby and sons, Byron and Rex, of Prospect were guests at the home of Mrs. Boothby's parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed Houston, of Shady Cove. Mrs. Ivan Hale of Shady Cove made a trip to Grants Pass where she visited her mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Hale. Mr. and Mrs. Harry King and son, Tomo, of Hayward, Calif., are visiting King's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom King of Shady Cove during the Easter holidays. King who returned from Oki nawa, has been discharged from the Marines. Mrs. Nona McAbee of Talent spent several days visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Segessenman of Shady Cove. Mrs. Mary Grieve of Pros pect was hostess at a party in Prosnect Saturday, when col ored slides were shown by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove. Guests present were Mr. and Mrs.. Mr. and Mrs. Knut Dynge, formerly of Shady Cove, and now of Seattle celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Mrs. E. K. Robbins of Seattle. A re ception was given in their honor with 60 guests attending. A son, G. T. Dynge of Medford, was present for the event. Mrs. Ernest Segessenman of Shady Cove attended an organia zation meeting of the Cancer chapter for Jackson county at the Rogue Valley Country club. The annual drive started April 1. The seventh and eighth grade pupils of Elk-Trail school are preparing the envelopes for mailing. Two more representa tives are needed for the Shady Cove-Trail area. Anyone inter ested in this work should con tact Mrs. Segessenman. The an nual silver tea for the Cancer society will be held April 24 starting at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest orchards. It is hoped that all the clubs and organizations in the area will be represented. There is also a hobby and style show in connection with the tea. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brown and family of Concord, Calif., are moving to Hamilton, Mont. Bill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. An drew Brown of Shady Cove. Bill Littlefield, Scoutmaster for the Shady Cove troop, took a group of Scouts for an over night camping trip in Flounce Rock district over the week end. Earl Decker of Jefferson City, Mo., is spending some time in Shady Cove visiting his mother, Mrs. Frances Miller, and his sis ter, Mrs. Jeanette Johnson. There will be a pre-school clinic May 8 from 1 to' 3 p.m. at the Shady Cove school for chil months and those starting school in the fall. , Open House will be held at the Shady Cove school Wednes day evening May 1 with the class rooms being open for in spection starting at 7 D.m.. and a program scheduled to start at 8 p.m. At the last regular meeting of the Shady Cove PTA officers for the 1957-58 school year elected were "president, Mrs. Tex Bur nett; vice president, Mrs. Dave Bergren; secretary, Mrs. Bill Kennedy, and treasurer, Mrs. Kay Harper. A play "Freedom Hall" was put on by members of Mrs. Agnes M. Brown s seventh and eighth grade classes. Re freshments were served by fourth grade mothers. Shady Cove school board meet ings have been changed from Thursday to the second Friday of each month for the present. This year a large number of hummingbirds returned to the Ranald Axtell gardens at trail. The birds came back April 2 and several varieties have . been noted. A mishap occurred recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Pfeifer in the Cove when the Faber Fuel company truck went out of control and backed into the swimming pool, causing con siderable damage. Guests attending the meeting of the HEC of the Shady Cove Grange Tuesday, April 9, were Mrs. George Tockstein, Mrs. Ran ald Axtell and Mrs. Oscar Han son of the Upper Rogue Grange, and Mrs. Dick Pfeifer of Shady Cove. Mrs. Edgar Vanderlip, pro gram chairman, read an article on Oregon and then conducted a written quiz on the article. Apparently many people do not know where to report fires, according to volunteer fire de partment officials. In case of fire, residents may call any one of four numbers: Cove Variety, TR-8-2346; Cove Valley Supply, TR-8-2131; Shady Cove Cleaners, TR-8-2371, or Art Hutcheson, TR-8-2481. Report the fire immediately, firemen urged, giving the full name, the location of the fire and directions for the fire de partment to reach the fire. If the house is located on a certain road or lane do not only give the name of the road but also give directions as to where the road is, officials urged. It is also of value to indicate neighbors so volunteer firemen may more readily locate the fire. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Learning of Shady Cove are parents of a son born Saturday, April 13, at Sac red Heart hospital in Medford. The baby, who weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces, has been named Steven Craig. This is the couple's third child and second boy. Maternal grandmother is Mrs. Glenn France of Jackson ville. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Kit) Car son of Santa Monica (temporar ily of Shady Cove) recently. The March of Dimes drive re cently completed netted S327.95 in the Shady Cove-Trail area. Collected from the various clubs was $216.06, the balance was from coin cards and coin con tainers. Sally Mongold was chosen as a delegate to Indiana. As Susan could not be present for the in stallation Susie Chubb was in stalled by proxy. All of the churches in the Shady Cove-Trail area will hold services Easter Sunday. St. Mar tin's Episcopal church of Shady Cove will old morning services starting at 9 a.m. in the band room at the Shady Cove school. Bishop Dagwell of Portland will conduct the service. Services at the Trail Commu nity church will begin with a Sunday school at 1 0a.m., morn ing worship at 11 a.m. Evening services will be held at 7 p.m. The Church of Jesus Christ of i the Latter Day Saints will hold j services at 1 0a.m. in the class- j room next to the gym at the ! Shady Cove school. Mass will be said at our Lady of Fatima Cath olic church in Shady Cove at 10 a.m. Coffee hour will follow the services in the Church hall. (U.PJ The FBI warned today that ap proximately 2,000 miniature aircraft bombs, many of which may be "extremely dangerous" had been stolen from the Mar ine Corps practice bombing area in nearby Trabuco canycn. i FBI agents and all other law enforcement agencies in South ern California immediately launched an intensive search fot the thief or thieves and the menacing loot. It was indicated the bombs could pose a serious threat to citizens as well as who ever committed the perilous theft.
