As they said, this operation, at any age, can produce serious psy chological injury. It can leave a woman depressed and blue and unhappy. Some can remain affectionate and responsive, but others become frigid, and lose their husband's love. Several surgeons said that, in their hospital or university clinic, they had managed to keep the percentage of such .hysterec tomies under 2 or 3 per cent. They said they felt the only justi fication for performing an early hysterectomy was the presence of serious infammatory disease in the pdvis,. in the fallopian tubes, and around the ovaries and womb. Such inflammations Blister Mile More Than Usual This Year, Cordy Says More than the usual amount of blister mite has been evident recently in orchards of this area, according to C. B. Cordy, county horticulture agent. Bartletts are a prefererd va riety for blister mite, Cordy pointed out, and therefore are more heavily infested with it than other varieties. Blister mite is a red scale-like substance on leaves and fruit of affected trees. It is especially apparent on terminal buds. Cordy said blister mite is evi dent even in orchards where dormant spray was applied. However, he said orchards where fall spray was applied have less blister mite than oth Survey Conducted A survey is now being con ducted among local orchards to determine what spray practices have been used and which ob tained the best results. Dr. L. G. Gentner, entomolo gist at the Southern Oregon Branch experiment station, is working on an experiment to determine whether or not a ma terial can be applied now to reduce blister mite. If such a material could be applied now, the amount of late blister mite spread could also be reduced. Cordy pointed out that the Bartlett crop may be somewhat reduced by the infestation, but the overall crop will not be materially affected. Blister mite necessitates an increase in the amount of selective thinning as the pears reach maturity. are often of gonorrheal origin. Sometimes the uterus and ovaries are removed because of a severe pndometriosis. In this condition, cells derived from the lining of the womb get out into the body cavity and grow upon the peritoneum, which is the lin ing membrane of this cavity. These little dark growths can produce severe pain, which may get worse and worse with suc cessive menstrual periods. Oc casionally, a hysterectomy has to be performed in the case of a young woman because of early cancer. The surgeons agreed that a hysterectomy should not be per formed because of a fibroid that is not producing severe flooding and anemia. As they said, the danger of a fibroid's turning into cancer is so small it should be disregarded. A sugar maple tree may live up to 500 years. Strange As It Seems by E!$I.
