Owens, Talent, announce the engagement of their daughter, Sandra Owens, to John M. Cook Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Cook, 1874 Camp Baker road, Medford. Miss Owens was graduated from Phoenix High school, and is attending Whitworth college in Spokane, Wash. Mr. Cook was also graduated from Phoe nix High school and is an engi neering student at Southern Or egon college in Ashland. The engagement was an nounced recently at a tradition al candlelight ceremony at Whitworth college. No date has been set for the wedding. Her fiance is a senior at Crater High school. Extension Units Announce Topics Three home extension units will meet this week. Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. the Central Point unit will meet at the Central Point Grange hall. The lesson will be reupholster ing kitchen chairs using foam rubber and plastic materials. Mrs. A. Straus and Mrs. O. T. Wilson will be psoject leaders and child care will be at the home of Mrs. Eunice Jones, 235 Laurel street, Central Point. Rogue Elk Home Extension unit will meet at the home of Mrs. Chester Willson on Cr"ater Lake highway at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17. Officers will be elected and the project lesson on window treatments will be given by Mrs. Charles Moorehead and Mrs. George Tockstein. The noon luncheon will be served by Mrs. Willson, Mrs. Er sal Meyers, and Mrs. Henry Rog ers. Mrs. P. A. Hawkins and Mrs. E. L. Barnes will give the pro ject for April, window treat ments, at the Thursday, April 18, meeting of the Lone Pine unit "at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. A. V. Jones, 1151 Brook dale. The unit welcomes back Mrs. John Davidson who has been in the east visiting with her daughters since last fall. New officers, for the coming year are Mrs. Carl Webb, chair man; Mrs. W. M. Lemon, vice chairman and Mi's. Foster Swig ert, secretary-treasurer. A county-wide installation will be held at the annual spring festival on May 1 at Central Point Grange hall. . Roll call was "the shrub I would like to have in my gar den." Many rag dolls were brought to the meeting for Fair view home. Mrs. Lemon asked the members to bring articles to the May meeting, the last for this year. The lesson on "Window Treat ment'' was given by Mrs. James Edge and Mrs. Leland M. Char ley. Many types of drapery and curtain material were displayed and discussed. Also, the "prob lem window" was discussed and the correct type of curtain was learned in different buzz ses sions. The May meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. W. M. The show theme will be "May Treasure Chest", and will Ve competitive. Mrs. Francis Russell, club president, will have as her com mittee, Mrs. John Holmer, gen eral chairman, assisted by Mrs. Gaston Floux; Mrs. Ralph Hixon and Mrs. Leo Ghelardi, staging; Mrs. R. D. Kay and Mrs. Lester Gorden, schedule; Mrs. W.-Kin-caid and Mrs. Floux, classifica tion; Mrs. Charles Jantzer, en tries; Mrs. Russell, judges; Mrs. Walt r Sutherland, publicity; Mrs. C. W. Anhorn, tea chair man; and Mrs. Wallace West, corsages. Mrs. A. C. Lewis of the Phoe nix Garden club was guest speaker at the meeting of the Central Point club April 3 at the home of Mrs. Holmer. She spoke on the drying of flowers and the various means of preserving their shape and color. She also displayed several dried flower plaques. The meeting began with a workshop on flower arranging under the direction of Mrs. Floux and Mrs. Holmer in prepa ration for the flower show. Guests introduced were Mrs. Flora Merriken, Mrs. Glen Ward and Mrs. Eunice Worden. A sack lunch was eaten at noon with dessert served by the hoftess assisted by Mrs. James Cornutt and Mrs. Everett Young. The next meeting will be held April 24 at the home of Mrs. E. W. Jermark in Ashland and will be a potluck luncheon. Forester Speaks Shady Cove D. H. Baker with the United States Forest Service at Union Creek spoke on conservation at the last meet ing of the Shaly Cove Garden club. He was assisted by Mrs. Baker who showed colored slides. Hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. Floyd Kelley and Mrs. Del bert Spain. Nominating Committee To Make Report for Navy Mothers' Club The nominating committee of Rogue Valley " Navy Mothers' club will report at a meeting of the group at the home of Mrs. James Wicker, 809 Adams lane, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15. Members are preparing arti cles for the rummage sale to be held in the future and plans for a float to be entered in the Pear Festival parade have been made. All mothers of Navy, Marine, Coast Guard personnel are in vited to attend the meetings. . Mrs. Bernice Kuniman To Be Guild Speaker Mrs. Bernice Kunzman will summarize the study book "The Church in Southeast Asia" by Winburn Thomas and Rajah B. Manikam at a Monday meeting of the Ruth Ester Wesleyan Ser vice guild. The meeting will be held at the First Methodist church in room 105 at 7:30 p. m.
