EXHAUST SPECIALISTS 1130 N. Riverside Giants, Nats Triumph in Exhibitions By MILTON RICHMAN United Press Sports Writer . The New York Giants read the newspapers, too, and they're working up a pretty good lather over all those experts who are picking them seventh and eighth. The Giants certainly didn't look like tail-enders Friday as they licked the Indians, 8-1, at Jacksonville, Fla. Right-hander' Ruben Gomez shut out Cleve land after yielding a first inning homer to Bobby Avila and wound up with a trim five-hitter. Few observers see the Wash ington Senators finishing any higher than seventh or eighth. Yet they rose up to defeat the world champion Yankees, 11-10, at Griffith Stadium Friday. Larsen Battered The Senators got to Don Lar sen for seventh runs in the fifth inning and then went on to reg ister the victory at the expense of southpaw Tommy Byrne when rookie Lyle Luttrall sin gled home Roy Sievers from sec ond base in the ninth. Rookie outfield Carl Powis singled home the winning run in the eighth as the Orioles scored a 3-2 victory over Cincinnati at Baltimore. Before the game, Cincinnati sold pitcher Russ Meyer to the Boston Red Sox and bought the contract of pitcher Raul Sanchez from Havana of the Interna tional league. Frank Lary and Paul Foytack combined to pitch the Detroit Ti gers to a 9-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Red Sox jumped on Gran ny Hamner for three runs in the eighth to trip the Phillies, 5-2, at Richmond, Va. Ring Mix Taken By Tiger Jones Syracuse, N.Y. UR Ralph (Tiger) Jones, who has taken to boxing's Gypsy trail, Saturday set out to get ready for his third middleweight bout in 30 days. The powerful fifth-ranked con tender, ' tired of waiting for a shot at the title, figures he'll keep trim fighting at a whirl wind pace just as he did Friday night in a 10-round televised victory over the surprisingly heavier but less powerful Chico Vejar. Jones, who was favored at 13 5, said Vejar was a "good fight er good enough to make the oddsmakers look ridculous." Next on the agenda for the 29-year-old Jones, of Yonkers, N.Y., is an April 25 fight with Joey Gray of Flint, Mich. Jones out pointed Arthur Kink in Toronto, March 25 and so the Gray fight will be his third in 30 days. Pancho Unhappy With Net Setup Cleveland U.R Richard (Pancho) Gonzales, who defeated Pancho Segura Friday night for a fifth straight Cleveland Pro fessional Tennis tournament ti tle, said he is seeking a legal decision over the tourney's pro moter, Jack Kramer. Gonzales said he is dissatisfied with conditions under Kramer. The bronzed Californian dis closed he has placed the matter of a possible break with Kram er in the hands of his attorney. Under the current contract with Kramer, he has a five-year op tion agreement effective from January of 1956. Gonzales' chief complaint with the Kramer setup is that he. has too little time to rest between stands in the United States and overseas. Maderos Billed Against Thomas Portland '(U.R) Boxing pro moter Tommy Moyer announced today that he has signed heavy weights Julio Mederos and Ben ny Thomas for a 10-round fight April 24 at the Civic Auditor ium. Moyer earlier this week an nounced the signing of Johnny Holman and Nino Valdez for a nationally-televised heavywhight fight here May 8.
