Good Friday services sponsor
ed by the Medford Ministerial
association will be held Friday,
April 19, from 12 noon until 3
p. m. at the First Presbyterian
church.
The Rev. Raymond Hum, pas
tor of the first Church of the
Nazarene and president of the
association, will be moderator
for the three hour service.
Speakers during the service
will change every 25 minutes
with the following ministers
participating in the service: the

Mr. Adams, who recently return
ed from a tour of five Latin-American

Beginning Sunday evening and

candlelight devotional services
each night. Each service will be

Jesus during Passion Week.

On Sunday night the theme
will be "The Triumphal Entry,"
the music will be a solo, "The
Palms," .by Mr. Fairbanks; . Mon
day night, "Cleansing the Tem
ple" will be depicted, with Mrs.
Ralph Matlack singing "Open
the Gates"; Tuesday night will
be "The Lord's Supper " and a
communion service will be held,
and the chancel choir will sing
the anthem, "O Perfect Life of
Love"; Wednesdaj night "Christ
in Gethsemane," will be the sub
ject and the duet "Alone" will
be sung by Mrs. A. F. Hotho and
Mrs. Darold McDonald; "Ecce
Homo,", or the trial before Pil
ate, will be the theme Thursday
night, and Mrs. L. C. Ryan and
Mr. Fairbanks will sing the duet,
"He Tenderly Looked at Me"
and Mrs. G. R. Mann will sing

Friday night, "Christ on the
Cross" will be the scene depict
ed. Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Olson

Benediction of
Palms Sunday at
St. Mark's
In accordance with the ancient
traditions of the 'church, the
Benediction of the Palms will
take place at the 8 a.m. Holy
Eucharist at St. Mark's Episco
pal church Sunday.
The palms, specially imported
from the Holy Land for this pur
pose, will adorn the altar, be
carried by the choir in proces
sion, and the remainder will be
fashioned into small crosses by
members of the Altar Guild, and
will be distributed to worship
pers at all services on Palm Sun
day, the first day of Holy Week.
According to traditional prac
tice' these crosses are retained
until Ash Wednesday of the fol
lowing year when they are burn
ed at the start of another Lenten
season.
The Rev. John Bright, assist
ant at St. Mark's, will preach at
the ll"a.m. service, and music
will be sung by the choir, un
der the direction of John Drys
dale. During Holy Week the holy
communion wfll be celebrated
each day, Monday to Thursday
at 11 a.m. .and 7:30 a.m., alter
nately. On Good Friday' the Three
Hour Vigil at the Cross will be
observed from 12 noon to 3 p.m.
with the clergy leading medita
tions on the Seven Last Words.
This service will be so arranged
that worshippers may come and
go at indicated intervals during
the afternoon.

Several anthems will be sung
at the Palm Sunday services of
the First Presbyterian church.
The Westminster choir will sing
the anthem "The Palms," at the
first service and the chancel
choir will sing two anthems,
"Ride On, Ride On," and "Alle
luia" at the second service. The
women's triple trio will sing
"Open the Gates of the Temple"
at both services.
The trio is composed of Mrs.
H. D. Christiansen, Mrs. Stanley
Lacy, Mrs. Jack Sanborn, Mrs.
Wayne Jamison, Mrs. Ralph
Thompsen, Mrs: John Henson,

Eastwood Host for
School Workshop
Eastwood Baptist church will
host a Vacation Church school
workshop for American Baptist
church in the Rogue River asso
ciation Saturday, April 13, be
ginning at 10 a.m.
The purpose of the workshop
is to prepare teachers for teach
ing in the Vacation Church
schools in the local churches.
Eastwood Baptist will hold its
Vacation Church school from
June 17-28.

Confirmation
Sunday at Zion
Zion Lutheran church, ULCA,
Fourth and Oakdale, will cele
brate the Palm Sunday festival
with the rite of Confirmation
for a group of its young people
at the 11 a.m. worship service.
The young people to be con
firmed have completed a two
year course of catechetical in
struction taught by the pastor
of the church. Through the con
firmation they become members
of the church in adult standing.
The rite of Confirmation will in
clude three steps; the reception
into church membership on Sun
day morning, the participation
in the Service of Public Confes
sion on Wednesday of Holy
Week, and the receiving of the
Lord's Supper on Maundy
Thursday.
Following the Palm Sunday
service the Women's Guild will
hold a social reception for the
Confirmands in the church par
lors, to which all members and
friends are invited.
At the service the choir will
sing, "Surely He Hath Borne
Our Griefs," under the direction
of Oscar Bjorlie.

of holy communion in memory
of the last night of Jesus with
his disciples will be held, with
Dr. Raymond E. Balcomb bring

ing the service.
Two broadcasts on KBE-TV
on Saturday, April 20, by the
ministers of the church will be
presented as a part of the Len
ten observance. "Thomas, the
Doubter, a Lenten monologue,
will be telecast with the -. Rev
George A. Trobough, narrator.
and John Lusk at the organ, at
3:40 p.m.
The "Streetcorner Skypilot,
with Dr. Balcomb, will be pre
sented at 11:30 p.m.
Nursery, kindergarten, and
primary children will be cared
for and taught during the 11
a.m. session of the church school.
For the kindergarten and the
primary church group, a film-
strip will be shown. The primary
church group will sit with their
parents during the first part of
the service, or will go to the as

Conference-Rally Set
By Pentecostal Church
A national young people's
rally will be held Tuesday, April
16, followed by a three-day Bible
conference at the Pentecostal
Church of God, Fifth and Pine
ste., Central Point, according to
the Rev. W. H. Johnson, host
pastor.
The rally will begin at 2:30
p. m. Tuesday under the direc
tion of the district Young Peo
ple's president, the Rev. C. A.
Andrews. At 7 p.m. the speak
er will be the national young
people's president, the Rev. Rob
ert Watson from Joplin, Mo.
The Bible conference will be
held Wednesday, Thursday, and
Friday under the direction of
the district superintendent, the
Rev. J. P. Walker. Services will
be held at 10:30 a.m., 2:30 and
7 p.m. each day.
The Rev. Earl Wilfong from
California will be the evening
speaker for the Bible conference.

Bridgeview Community church
will preach the.sermon at Sun
rise services Easter morning. The
Illinois Valley Community choir,
under the direction of J. Van
Johnson, will sing two anthems.

The First Church of God. Med
ford, has purchased 6 acres ' of
ground in the newly annexed
Grandview area. The property,
formerly owned by the Phipps
family, has a 320 foot frontage
on Crater Lake ave. and reaches
east some 800 feet, joining the
proposed new high school area.
Complete plans for future de
velopment have not been releas
ed from the church office. Pres
ent knowledge, of development
include the construction of a
yo'-th chapel and sanctuary. Al
so, the construction of an educa
tional plant and facilities for
church socials and community
recreation. The project will start
upon the liquidation of present
