France staged its biggest royal show since the 1789 revolution to welcome the British monarch, the first reigning Queen of England to visit the country in 102 years. Queen in Last Day Of Visit To France Paris U.R) Qtfeen Elizabeth II began the last day of her three-day state visit Wednesday by attending a formal reception at the British Embassy to meet the carefully selected upper crust of the British colony living in Paris. The embassy reception was the first event of the busy day.- The Queen meets American Gen. Lauris Norstad, supreme al lied commander in Europe, at Norstad's Marnes La Coquette home. Norstad vigorously op poses Britain's cut in its contri butions to NATO defense forces. Queen Elizabeth talked brief ly with German Gen. Hans Spei del, new commander of NATO ground forces, at a British Em bassy reception Tuesday night. The reception followed a five mile boat ride along the Seine river, which had been turned into a spotlighted fairyland of pageantry. Police estimated half a mil 1 i o n Parisians and tourists jammed every bridge and quay from the Invalides to the He St. Louis. A rolling thunder of cheers followed the presidential yacht Borde Fretigny on its 90 minute journey. Along the quays platoons of actors and singers depicted the history of France, much of it having to do with wars against Britain. Guilt in Murder Ruled by Bronx Jury New York XJ.PJ A Bronx County Court jury found Vin cent Spano, 27, guilty of first degree murder Tuesday night for the slaying of former welter weight boxer Frankie Palermo. The 11-man, one-woman jury deliberated for more than eight hours before returning their ver dict with no recommendation for mercy. Such a verdict automati cally calls for execution in the electric chair at Sing Sing prison. Judge Eugene C. Schulz set May 9 for sentencing. Spano, a machinist, fatally shot Palermo last Jan. 22 after a fist fight in a Bronx candy store. He showed no emotion when the verdict was announced. Tests To Determine Cause of Eden Fever Boston U.R) Sir Anthony Eden was given new laboratory tests today by Lahey clinic phy sicians in an attempt to learn j the cause of persistent fever at tacks which have endangered his health. Dr. Richard B. Cattell, Lahey surgeon who operated on Eden in 1953, said Tuesday that he was in "no pain." He said "sev eral days" of tests will be neces sary to diagnose the intestinal illness which forced Eden to cut short a New Zealand vacation. The New England Baptist hos pital reported that the 59-year-old former British prime minis ter "is active and up and about in his room and has tolerated the diet well." Two Private Planes Collide in Mid-Air Fort Worth, Tex. UR) Two private planes, with an instruct or and student aboard each, col lided in flight Tuesday, raining wreckage over a quarter-mile area. All four were killed. Both planes, Cessna 140s, wore from Meecham Field here. One plane was on instruments. A pilot in the area said later he heard a voice on tin radio say, "there"s a Cessna in your flight path." John Lewis Senn, 38. and his student, Clarence Paul Cham bers, 25, were in one plane and John Kenneth Shultetus, an in structor and Lloyd Darrell Rut tende were in the other.
