He bore the grim promise of Chairman John L. McClellan (D Ark.) that the committee will do its best to punish him for "utter contempt" of Congress. McClellan, who said "proper propriety" prevented him from expressing his real opinion of Beck, seared the paunchy union boss with an angry concluding statement at the close of Wednesday's hearing. Executive Council Meets He said Beck had shown "arrogant contempt for the mil lion and a half members of hon est laboring peop e in the Team sters' Union . . . flagrant d i s regard and disrespect for honest and reputable unionism . . . and utter contempt for this commit tee, for the Congress of the United States and for his gov ernment." The chairman sent a copy of Beck's testimony to the Justice department and said the Inter nal Revenue service could have one too if it was interested. Beck faced yet another haz ard. The AFL-CIO executive council meets here Friday to consider what action to take against the Teamster boss for funds and for invoking the Fifth 1 such action would be "a healthy Amendment. The council adopted a policy statement in February that any union official who invokes the Fifth Amendment has no place as a union leader. Walter P. Reu ther. No. 2 man in the AFL-CIO and a council member, has indi cated he will demand Beck's re moval as a "council member and AFL-CIO vice president Will Seek Reelection Beck's place at the head of his 1,500,000-member union, how ever, is strictly up to the Team sters themselves. Their next convention is in September. Beck has declared he will put his case in his membership's hands by standing for reelection. Rep. Stewart L. Udall (D-Ariz.) urged members of Beck's union Wednesday to oust Beck and Western Teamster official Frank Brewster, who has figured in earlier committee hearings. Committee Counsil Robert F. Kennedy said Beck had been un der income tax investigation since 19o4. Kennedy told the committee that this set off some of Beck's big-money maneuvers to restore funds he had taken from Teamster treasuries. Attorney Condon, who sat be side Beck during two days ' of drama-packed hearings in place of his oft mentioned chief coun sel, former Sen. James H. Duff (R-Pa.), said a grand jury would have to act within "the next month or so, because of the sta tute of limitations." Reuther, United Auto Workers president and AFL-CIO vice president, has said that Beck should be removed from the AFL-CIO's 29 member ruling body if he invoked the Fifth Amendment IWA Board Supports Union's George Meany Portland (U.R) The execu tive board of the International Woodworkers of America, meet ing here yesterday, voiced sup port of AFL-CIO president George Meany and called for a continued effort to oust "the cor rupt element and racketeers" in the labor movement. The board, representing some 100,000 union members, issued a statement which said: "We commend the AFL-CIO ethical practice committee for its, dedicated and fearless work. Labor Group May Probe Meeting Washington OI.R The Senate Labor Rackets committee may conduct an investigation into a meeting in Portland Tuesday night at which a Teamster union member charged that union of ficers attempted to get him to retract statements he made earlier criticizing union officials and the organization. Counsel for the committee. Robert Kennedy, said he learned of the meeting at which Harry Federspiel contends he was third degreed" by officers. Ken nedy had said earlier that the committee will not : tand still for any retaliatory action taken against a Teamster member who voices support of the committee hearings. Federspiel last week circulat ed a petition and obtained about 300 Signatures asking removal from office "of any Teamster official found guilty of racke teering or misuse of union funds." Lew Cornelius, secretary of Teamsters union local 162 here. said that it was not Federspiel's circulation of the petition that stirred the ire of i.he executive board but statements he made in public. For the past six and one-half months, Ora Lee Linville, 14, and Jerry Don, 13, had been liv ing a Tom Sawyer-Huckleberry Finn life in a cave on a creek near a park playground during school hours. Their adventure started last September. The hookey - playing spree ended Wednesday when police officers investigated a re port that two boys had been lin gering around the cave. They j found Ora Lee and Jerry sitting i contentedly in front of a wood fire. The older boys said they spent the mornings exploring and in the afternoons, "we'd just sit and watch the sky or the creek until school was out."
