Easy Trick
Is the gravy all gone when
you still have some chicken or
turkey left? Warm cut-up pieces
of meat gently in condensed
cream soup over a low flame on
your gas range. Use either
cream of mushroom or cream of
chicken or cream of celery.
Serve on toast triangles with
peas or green beans.

Higher Interest Rate
On Saying Bonds Seen
Washington 'U.PJ The
House called up for almost cer
tain passage today a bill to
raise the interest rate on gov
ernment savings bonds.
The measure would allow the
Treasury to carry out its an
nounced plan of boosting the in
terest of series "E" and "H"
bonds from the present 3 per
cent interest to 3V4 per cent.
Actually, the measure author
izes an increase to 3Vi per cent.
But the Treasury has announced
it will raise the rate to only 3U
per cent.
Treasury officials said a high
er interest rate was necessary
to make the bonds more attrac
tive to investors who have been
shunning them in favor of other
more attractive investments. Re
demptions of savings bonds in
recent months have exceeded
sales.
Since 1948 there have been
approximately one million more
births in the U.S. each year than
the average during the preced
