CU R The bod ies of two young Negro brothers were found late Wednesday night int he bottom of a murky lagoon where they were drown ed while searching for their lost dog. Leon Eostic, 9, and his broth er, Alfred, 7. disappeared Tues day afternoon after school on the hunt for the lost dog. Au thorities drained the lagoon and found the bodies in a mud hole in one of the deep sections of the waterway. About 13 per cent of all U. S. pupils still attend rural one-room schools. Anglo-American Alliance Criticized London U.R) Britain' Con servative party political center published a pamphlet criticizing the Angla-American alliance to day less than a week before Prime Minister Harold Macmil lan meets President Eisenhower in Bermuda. "The average Englishman may find it difficult to believe that any country which has to. call out armed soldiers to escort six Negro children to a white high school could believe itself or dained to lead the Afro-Asian block at the United Nations," the pamphlet said. Its author Philip Goodhart, is a Tory candidate for Parlia ment. His father is an Ameri can citizen. Labor Consultant Attempts Suicide Los Angeles (U.R) Labor relations expert Leo Kotin, 48, whose wife is secretary to Team sters Union President Dave Beck, was given emergency treatment Wednesday after what police listed as an apparent sui cide attempt because he couldn't "compete" with Mrs. Kotin's car eer. Officers said they found Ko tin on the floor of his gas-filled apartment after receiving a tele phone call from Mrs. Kotin in Washington, who had just talk ed to her husband by phone. They quoted her as saying she feared her husband might kill himself. Officers said several gas out lets were open in the apartment. They said they found a note reading: "To wonderful Annie. I couldn't compete with her first love, her career is with the teamsters. There is no room for me." Kotin has worked as a labor consultant for the past two years. He has also served as a federal mediator in Washington, Portland and Seattle. ' Forest Grove Youth Oregon Star Farmer La Grande U.R) A Forest Grove high school student, Don ald H. Scott of Gaston, was named as Oregon Star Farmer for 1957 at the annual state FFA convention here last night. , Scott received a $200 award. The Foundation Award in farm electricity went to Dennis Haney of Eugene. Mike Rinkes of West Linn was named winner of the Farm Mechanics Founda tion award. Other top award winners were: Dairy Farming, Randolph Smith Jr., Canby; Farm safety, North Marion chapter; Soil and water management award, Adin Hester, Canby. Hester was elected as new state president of the FFA. Doeskin gloves are named for the female deer because cen turies ago the softest gloves were made in France from the skin of that animal. Today the skins are provided by baby lambs raised on French hillsides expressly for glove-making. President Eisenhower told his news conference last week the government may slow down the speed of some projects as a money saving measure to ease inflationary pressures. Specific Projects Not Listed Dexheimer did not indicate whether a slowdown of recla mation projects would cut his agency's crrent budget or merely prevent future spending .creases. The Reclamation Bu reau has asked Congress for SI 83 million for construction work for the fiscal year beginning July 1. He did not list specific pro jects that may be curtailed, de layed or stopped. But he said major contracts coming up in the "near future" include the Robles diversion dam and canal on the Ventura Project in Cali 700-foot hijjh concrete arch dam at Glen Canyon on the Colorado river in northern Arizona. This is expected to be the costliest single contract in U.S. reclama tion history. Klamath Resources Purchase Study Seen Washington i.P.) A study of possible legislation to pro vide government purchase of the most valuable resources of the Klamath Indian tribe will be launched soon by a Senate sub committee headed by Sen. Rich ard Neuberger. Neuberger said that the prob lem could now be taken in light of the Senate's passage last week of a bill delaying termination of federal control over the tribe until mid-1958. The Orecon senator said that the "primary duty of Congress now is to see to it that the North west's finest stand of Ponderosa pine timber is not exploited or gutted." He said this may be ac complished by government pur chase for sustained-yield custodianship.
