Arlington Burial For Admiral Byrd Washington U.PJ Rear Adm. Richard Evelyn Byrd, his great explorations ended forever, was brought home to his native Vir ginia today for burial among the nation's heroes. The last resting place for the renowned conqueror of the poles and spanner of the oceans was a quiet plot on the eastern slope of Arlington National Cemetery. Byrd, the first man to fly over both the North and South Poles, was called "one of the truly great explorers of all time" by Presi dent Eisenhower. Byrd died in his sleep Monday night at the age of 68, the victim of a heart ailment brought on by years of Greek Cypriot Hanged For Illegal Firearm Nicosia, Cyprus (U.R) The Greek Cypriot Evagoras Pakuk arides, 19, was hanged in Nicos ia city jail Wednesday night for illegally carrying a firearm. British Governor Sir John Harding turned down a final ap peal from Nicosia Mayor Dr. Theodor Dervis. Hood Forest . George W. Kansky, district ranger at Union Creek since 1954, has been promoted to the staff of the Mt. Hood national forest, Portland, where he will be in charge of range, wildlife, water and recreation resources. He will rport to the new post March 24. Kansky is a graduate of Iowa State college where he earned a master's degree in range man agment. He started his forest service career in 1940 conduct ing range surveys on the Uma tilla forest in -eastern Oregon. After serving with the U. S. Army engineers from 1941 to 1946 he returned to the Uma tilla forest. In 1948 Kansky was assigned Group Approves Study of Klamath Canal. Menace Washington (U.R) The Senate irrigation and reclama tion subcommittee yesterday un animously approved a resolution to authorize $5000 for a study of means of eliminating an irri gation canal menace in Klamath Falls. The resolution was sponsored by Sens. Wayne Morse arid Rich ard L. Neuberger. Texas state fair drew 2,380, 000 visitors in 16 days. to the Okanogan forest, serving first as assistant ranger and later as district ranger at Twisp, Wash. He was promoted to the Union Creek district ranger po sition, .Rogue River forest, in 1954. His successor has not yet been selected. Britain To Explode Bomb High in Air Honolulu (U.R) Reliable sources said today Britain's first hydrogen bomb will be explod ed 20,000 feet in the air four to six miles off tiny Maiden Island some 1,500 miles south of here. The British sources said the planes, probably Valiant jet bombers flying at 40,000 to 50, 000 feet, will find their target bearings from a huge triangular device already installed at tha coral island. The main purpose of the tests, according to the sources, is to determine the bomb's destruc tive ability through instruments rather than by blowing up an island. YALE FAVORED Chapel Hill, N.C.
