Commissioner Claire Mundorff said a hearing would be held in proceedings to remove Hudson to Texas. Obituaries HUGH H. HAYES Funeral services for Hugh H. Hayes of 826 East 9th St., Med ford. who died Tuesday at his home, will be read by a Christ ian Scientist at Conger-Morris at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Commit tal will be in the Rock Point cemetery. Gold Hill, with IOOF Lodge 129 officiating. Mr. Hayes was born Sept. 23, 1888, in Dunn county. Wis. He came to Gold Hill with hb par ents the late John and Antoin ette Hayes in 1900. On Aug. 8, 1912, near Agate, he was mar ried to Jessie Bailey, who sur vives. He was a charter member of the IOOF, Gold Beach trans ferring to the Gold Hill Lodge in 1951. Survivors, besides his wife, include daughters. Mrs. Fred Baker, Medford; and Mrs. Charles Rosecrans, Central Point; son, Cecil Hayes, Chico, Calif.; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. walter Mcdonald Walter Ralph McDonald. 78, died in a local hospital, Tues day. Perl Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. ARTHUR EDWARD CHASE Ashland Arthur Edward Chase, 59, of 2956 Barbara St., Ashland, died at his residence here Tuesday. Survivors include his wife. Bessie; twoxdaughters, Mrs. Opal Mikesell and Dorothy Haines; one son, Everett L. Smith, all of Klamath Falls, two step-sons, Robert and Kenneth Smith, both of Portland, and nine grand children and one great grand child. Other survivors include one sister. Pearl Attwood, Willows. Calif., and two-step brothers. Mart Stryker. Hornbrook, and Charlie Stryker. Yreka, Calif. Mr. Chase was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 23, Ashland, and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. He retired in 1952 as a Southern Pacific brakeman. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Litwiller's Mountain View chapel. Ashland. Interment will be in Hornbrook cemetery. Masonic Lodge, Ash land, is in charge of funeral arrangements. Elk Lumber Company Awards Scholarships To Three Students The Elk Lumber company scholarship committee Monday awarded three additional S300 scholarships to graduating sen iors in southern Oregon. The scholarships are for stu dents planning to enter Willam ette university or Lewis and Clerk college next fall. Gregory Earl Milnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Milnes, 15 North Grovcland ave., was awarded a scholarship to Wil lamette university. He has been active in speech, choir, band and dramatics at Medford High school. He was on the debate team three years and a finalist in several regional and state de bate and speech tournaments. Milnes has been a member of the high school Madrigal choir and was selected for the all Northwest choir soon to perform in Boise, Idaho. He was also se lected for all-state band in 1957, and carried the male lead in the high school operetta in 1954 and 1956. Active Member He has held class offices at Medford High school and was a finalist in the Boy's State race for governor. Milnes is an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal church, having been an acolyte for three years, treasurer and program chairman of the young People's Fellowship and for the past two years has been worship leader of the Interdenomination al Youth Service in February. Barbara Jean MacKay of Lakeview. who has been award ed a scholarship to Lewis and Clark college, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bennett MacKay. Her father is resident manager of the Lakeview Log ging company. Miss MacKay has served as treasurer of her class in the Lakeview High school, is a jun ior past honored queen of Bethel 47 in Lakeview and is an active member of the Lakeview Presby terian church, where she teaches in the primary department and serves as summer organist. Liv ing in her home has been an exchange student from Austria, whom she refers to as her "adopted sister." She now holds the highest scholastic record in her senior class. Choice wooled lambs pelts 21; good-choice ROBERT VAGNER Director of Band University Band To Present Concert At Hedrick Tuesday Eugene The University of Oregon concert band under the direction of Robert Vagner will make a three-day tour, March 18-20. The Band will play at Douglas High schoolin Roseburg March 18. in Grants Pass and Medford March 19, and in Ban don and North Bend March 20. The Medford performance will be held in Hedrick Junior High school gymnasium starting at 8 p.m. under the sponsorship of the Medford High school band. There will be no advance ticket sales for the concert. Four Medford students are members of the band. They are Alexa Hibbard, Tommy Y'Blood, Richard Brown and Molly Walker. First Trip This will be the first trip to southern Oregon by the concert band under Vagner's direction. The University of Oregon con cert band hjs gained a reputa tion as an outstanding college band. Dr. Edwin Frank Goldman ranked the Oregon band as one of the best in 1955. The concert band is a select group of 60 musicians who have auditioned for placements in the band. The instrumentation of the group is of symphonic propor- tions, using all wind instruments including English horn, several j bass clarinets, recording tubas, ! etc. I The band's repertoire includes i almost all types of literature: j military marches, Broadway tunes, and most of the latest ' symphonic band repertoire.
