What makes Vikki's strange
garb stranger is that she's not
the busty pin-up type. The ac

mark as the receptionist in "The
Great Man." is a former high
fashion model with a cultural,
almost English accent plus poise

After "The Great Man" she
was signed by John Wayne's
producing companty, Batjac (she
calls it Back-Jac). Wayne is over
seas and can't be reached for
comment on what his young em
ployee is up, or down, to.
"I was thinking of some pub
licity gimmick you need some
kind of break to get started here
and I didn't want to pose in
the nude," explained the ac
tress. "Many actresses do and
it's shocking to me.
"I thought of a dress cut very
low in the back, to the point
of no return. This is much more
chic than anything that's been
done in the way of bosom dis

coat to the dyer to be dyed pink
and sent along a pink suede hat
to give the dyer the idea of the
shade she wanted. The dyer in
stead dyed the hat brown in
stead. Mrs. Komer sent it back
and asked that it be redyed pink.
The hat was sent to a New York
dying specialist and was lost.
Mrs. Komer collected $327.50 in
damages.

Jones, former resident of Pitts
burgh, Pa., who was convicted
of the abortive attempt to hold
up the Hollywood branch of the
Benjamin Franklin Savings &
Loan Association here last Oct
ober, was sentenced to 12 years
in prison yesterday.
At the time of the attempted
holdup, Jones had threatened
bank employees with a bolt
which he kept hidden in a pocket

With Antibiotics
Washington (U.R) President
Eisenhower fought a head cold
with antibiotic drugs today but
members of his staff reported
his cough is improving steadily.
One of his chief associates
said, however, that if the cold
and cough show any signs of
worsening the President will
"drop everything and scoot right
out of Washington" to a warmer
and more therapeutic climate.
For the time being the Presi
dent's doctor, Maj. Gen. Howard
McC. Snyder, and members of
the White House staff saw no
reason for the President to leave
town. Mr. Eisenhower himself
said Thursday this would be an
awkward time to leave because
of the Middle East situation and
with Secretary of State John
Foster Dulles and Vice-President
Richard M. Nixon out of the
country.
Oregon Traffic Deaths
Total 30 in February
Salem (U.R) Thirty traffic
deaths in February increased the
total for the first two months of
this year to 57, one short of the
toll for the first two months of
1956, the State Traffic Safety
Commission said today.
Deaths were recorded in 16 of
Oregon's 36 counties.

an airport at Bandon was ac
cepted yesterday by the State
Board of Aeronautics.
Officials said a turf runway
300 by 2600 feet will be built
and if traffic warrants, the run
way will be surfaced later.
The board announced that fed
eral matching funds for paving
the runway at the Hermiston
airport have been requested. The
facility was recently deeded to
the state by the city.
Federal matching funds for
the creation of airports at John
Day, Nehalem and Seaside have
also been requested, the board
said.

missionary Paul A. Mackensen,
released Tuesday from a Chi
nese prison, said today by tele
phone from Shanghai he intends
to stay in Communist China.
The Chinese announced Mack
ensen's release Thursday, exact
ly five years after the Philadel
phia Lutheran was arrested in
Tsingtao and' sentenced to five
years in prison.
' He was one of 10 Americans
held prisoner by the Chinese.
"I am not planning to leave
China immediately," Mackensen
told United Press in a telephone
conversation from Shanghai. "I
am trying to find work in Shang
hai." The Philadelphian said he did
not know what kind of work he
