Nobody laughed hard er than Huntz Aline Mosbv nail w n e n writers Ed Bernds and Elwood Ullman were listed as Oscar nominees for "High Society" in the "best original motion pic ture story" category. The 14,000 movie industry voters apparently thought they were voting for the MGM music al with Grace Kelly, Bing Cros by and Frank Sinatra. " Mixup Explained But that "High Society" was not eligible for that category since it had been written from Bridges' Attackers Get 30-Day Sentences San Rafael, Calif. (U.R) Two seamen found guilty of as sault in the beating of longshore leader Harry Bridges have re ceived sentences of 30 days. The seamen were Fred Rep pine, 35, and Donald C. Hansen, 23. They were found guilty of beating Bridges up in the wash room of Sally Stanford's Valhal la restaurant in Sausalito last September. Before imposing sentence Sup erior Judge Thomas F. Keating said it was a "commonplace po lice court fight." "Ordinarily, there would be a fine and a few days in jail," he said. However, the judge noted that both men had "something of a record" and took into account the county probation officer's recommendation against probation. What won the vote was another picture of the same title, a Bowery Boys' "quickie" about how Hall inherits a fortune by mistake and winds up with the other boys on Park ave. On Monday, writers Bernds and Ullman gracefully withdrew from the Oscar competition on the comment, "Our nomination apparently is a case of mistaken identity." Hall is the Bowery boy with an overhanging nose, staring eyes and drooping blond hair. Today on his Bowery Boy set Hall flicked a cigar and said in his best Bronx accent that he was honored to be in Oscar com pany. Remake Considered "We are thinking of remaking our 'High Society' and calling it "The Philadelphia Story," " he quipped. "I just hope MGM made as much money from their "High Soeiety' as we did from ours." Hall is finishing another Bow ery Boys epic, "Spook Chasers." "I've just seen the rushes and I think we have another Acad emy Award nominee here," he cried. If your hair isn't becoming to you . . .
