The Detroit Red Wings could have taken an eight-point lead over the Montreal Canadiens, but suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of the fifth-place Toronto Maple Leafs. Pelicans Tip Ashland High Quint 41-37 Ashland The Klamath Falls Pelicans won 41-37 over Ashland high Saturday night. It was a hotly contested game all the way with the lead chang ing hands several times before Klamath could salvage enough of a lead to ascertain its 10th conference victory against two defeats. The Pelicans were out to com pensate for their humiliating 50 39 Friday night setback. They started fast in the Saturday night encounter and were on the long end of a 5-0 count after 48 sec onds of the first quarter. But for the Grizzlies midway through the opening quarter Jack Tobi asson sank a pair of free throws to tie the score 6-6. Engineering a patience-trying strategy while trying to pull the Pelicans out of their zone de fense and into a man to man defense, the Grizzlies pushed for a slow, low-scoring game, and were in front of the Pelicans midway through the second quarter, and were just a shade behind the classy KF five when the half ended with Klamath Falls leading 19-17. Free Tosses Aid TClamath was one to .three points in front much of the third period. With Klamath trailing 26-25 with three minutes remaining in the third canto, two quick field goals by the Pelicans pushed the visitors into a 29-26 third period nod. From that point on and throughout the final quarter the Klamath Falls Pelicans made the most of their free throw at tempts, hit the hemp from out side the key, and generally held a four to five point edge to re gain some of the prestige they lost in Friday night's defeat. The Pelicans in winning boost ed their season record to 18 vic tories against 3 setbacks. The Grizzlies own a season record of 13 wins and 7 defeats.
