Walker has announced that a meeting ' tfee Rogue Basin Flood Con Otrol committee will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26. at 8 p.m. in the court house at Grants Pass, for the purpose of electing a 16 man board of directors for the ensuing year. Walker is one of the original directors elected last February. There are sever al sponsoring organizations in Gold Hill, each having the pow er of one vote. Everyone from this community is urged to at tend th meeting. Mr. Walker states that the board has made progress the past year and it is ?:ed that the problem will soon be alleviated. O Plans have bee completed for a smorgasbord dinner which O will be given Saturday, March 2. at the Community Methodist church. Serving will start at 4 p m. Mrs. Grace Bruce will play the organ during the evening. Group three of the-Women's Society is sponsoring the dinner. Tickets are now on sale. The next meeting of the Gold Hill Health unit will be held at the hoirte of Mrs. J. G. Kofahl on Pacific Highway 99 north, Tuesday, March 5, at 1 p.m. A dessert luncheon will precede the business meeting, at which time a report will be given on the rummage sale. Gilbert Mack, principal of Cold Hill school has announced that spring vacation is scheduled for the week of March 11 through 15 for all of district 6. A Ftate meeting of the Oregon Education Association will be held in Portland that week for teachers. The speech squad from Crater High school went to Linfield college to a speech tournament Feb. 21, 22, and 23. A number of students from this area were in the group. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Thompson are parents of a baby boy, born Feb. 14. He weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces, and was named Kev in Philip. Mrs. Thompson and children plan to join Mr. Thomp son soon. He is employed in Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Thompson and the new baby are staying at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Writ, at White City. Little Pamela is spending a few days with her grand-parents. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thomp son at their home in Gold Hill. I Thompsons were enrouie to Yreka. Calif., to visit Mr. and Mrs. George Hammersly, and to Oakland. Calif., where they will spend a few days with their son, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Thompson. The Thompsons and Hammers lvs are former residents of Gold Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Conner and daughter Kathy were guests on Saturday evening, Feb. 16. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thompson. Mrs. Effie Birdsey and Roy Cameron, who live on Highway 99 north, received word, Feb. 21. that their brother, John Cos mus Cameron, had passed away at his home in Cottage Grove, Ore. John Cameron married the former Myrtle Dungey, who is a sister of Elmer, and Leroy Dungey and a sister of Mrs. Jess Gilchrist. The Camerons were both former residents of Gold Hill. Mrs. Effie Birdsey is a sister of Mr. Cameron. Roy Cameron and Mrs. Birdsey will attend the funeral, which will be held in Cottage . Grove, Saturday, Feb. 23. Don Parker of the TJ. S. Navy left Feb. 19 for San Diego, Cal., after spending a twelve day leave at the home of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Parker on Lampman road. Don will be sta tioned on the ship Hoopers Is land in San Diego bay. Mrs. William Brewster held a piano recital at her home in Medford Feb. 15. Among Mrs Brewster's pupils from Gold Hill, who participated were Lin da Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Parker, Vervia Be- man, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Al Beman and Volda Paulsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Paulsen. Frank and Joyce Rob erts, children of Mr. and Mrs Dean Roberts, were also in the group. Roberts is the fifth grade teacher at Hanby school. February 25, 1957 Three Dignitaries To Visit Tuesday Medford American Legion post 15 will be host to three dig nitaries from Portland Tuesday, Feb. 26. Dr. Penn Crum, American Le gion rehabilitation commissioner for the department of Oregon, will arrive Tuesday with Joe McDonald, department adjutant of the American Legion, to hold conferences with all posts in dis trict 13. They will also visit the domiciliary at Camp White. At the "same time, Dick Smurthwaite, veterans employ ment officer for the state depart ment of labor, will be in Med ford to present an award to Eu gene Ricker, manager of the domiciliary. All three visitors will attend Rotary Tuesday noon, when the award will be presented to Ricker. Immediately after Rotary, they will visit the domiciliary and confer with Ricker regarding needs for service work at Camp White. At 5 p.m., they will meet with representatives of the five posts in district 13. They will at tend the Turnabout VAVS party at Camp White in the evening. Later, they will appear for a joint meeting of the Legion and auxiliary at the American Le gion hall. 531 South Riverside ave., Medford. All Legionnaires are requested to attend both the meeting at 5 p.m., in th Legion hall, and the regular meeting at 8 p.m., post officials said. Portland Milk Prices Go Higher Today Portland U.R) Milk prices in Portland are due to advance one - cent a quart effective to day. The long talked about price hike was announced Friday by the Dairy Cooperative associa tion. Under the boost milk will be priced at 23 cents on grocer's shelves and 25 cents a quart de livered to the customers door. Although - other distributors did not immediately announce a similar price boost, it appeared likely that they, would also go along. Producers and distributors are scheduled to receive equal shares of the price boost. Producers have been calling for the price hike for some time, contending that increased costs was forcing them out of business. Richard Herrington, eight-year- old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Herrington, was invited to play his steel guitar at the evening church services at Camp White Sunday, Feb. 23. Lilly McKay, has returned to her home on First avenue fol lowing a two month visit at the home of her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Dick McKay in Sacramento. Jacque and Kathy, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Living ston, of i Redmond, Ore., are spending a month at the home of their grandmother, Mrs. Flor ence Livingston on Lampman road. Mr. and Mrs. Randall Miller of Butte, Mont., were recent vis itors at the home of Mrs. Flor ence Livingston. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jacquay and four children,, and Mrs. Jac quay's father, Kenneth King, from Grover City, Calif., were here for the funeral of Nancy Marie King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles King, of Sardine Creek. Mr. and Mrs. George Tilly of Galls creek have named their new son Randall Lane. The baby was born Feb. 4 and weighed 8V2 pounds. The Tillys have two other children, Russell and Verda Sue. Mrs. Lorene Bradfield of Sa lem was a recent visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cam eron and her son, Mr. and Mrs Forest Bradfield of Foots creek. Mrs. Bradfield also visited with many others during the several days she was here. Mrs. Brad field is a former resident of Foots creek. Mrs. Ruby Quakenbush and Mrs. A. A. Walker spent one day last week at the home of their sister, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hayes in Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Walker of Central Point visited last week at the homes of Mrs. C. Lentz and Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Fitzger ald and two children, of Modoc, Calif., visited Feb. 20 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Newnham. While in the valley they will visit relatives and friends. Mrs. Ruby Quackenbush, who lives on Second avenue, receiv ed word recently that her son, Bart, was elected president of the freshmen class at Contra Costa Junior college, in Rich mond, Calif., where he is major ing in electrical engineering. For instance, they have been wearing toreador pants for hun dreds of years. They wear them black, almost skin tight, and with a nice border of gold em broidery. Up top, they wear a loose jacket, taken in much in the fashion of the new French cocktail dresses. Somehow they do not conceal figures made shapely by carrying loads on their heads much like models in training. Coolie Hals Old Stuff Even coolie hats, the rage of the Western fashion world a few years back, are old stuff here. Add to this a pretty face, masses of silver necklaces, armlets, bracelets and other jewelry and the result isn't half bad at all particularly if you've been in Yemen a while. The men do wear skirts, but they are masters in this coun try and have most of the rights and privileges. One of them is to take up to four wives and, for that .reason, there are few old maids. .
