The sale will consist of six tracts containing an esti mated 21,659.000 board feet of timber, according to E. K. Peter ion. JUedford district forester. Three of the tracts, containing an estimated 7,836,000 board feet, are in Josephine county. The other three, containing an' estimated 13.823,000 board feet are in Jackson county, Peterson said. Classified As Salvage In Josephine county, one tract containing an estimated 1,809, 000 board feet is classified as sal q vage, since a majority of the tim ber is "blow down." Two of the Jttkson county tracts are in the area covered by the September, 1955, Sykes creek fire. The two tracts, estimated to contain 4, 902,000 board feet, are also Q classified as salvage, Pt.erson said. The salvage sales may be re moved to any O&C marketing area for manufacture, whereas the tracts advertised as green ! must be delivered to mills with- Larkin Transferred From BLM Office David H. Larkin, a- forester assigned to the Medford district office of the bureau of land I management for the l'i years, j has been promoted and trans- ferred to the bureau office lo- cated at Juneau, Alaska. The new assignment will in clude stepped-up fire control measures, using aerial methods according to E. K. Peterson, Medford district forester. The buresui has jurisdiction of 40, 000.000 acres of undeveloped commerical forest lands in in terior Alaska. Larkin is a 1955 graduate of the school of forestry at Mon tana Sate university. While in Medford he was engaged in grazing and timber sale work in the south unit under the super vision of Herbert Haglund. in their respective marketing i areas for at least primary manu facture, he noted. The two Sykes Creek .fire tracts will complete the salvage j operations on bureau land dam aged by that fire. Approximately j 16 million board feet of timber ; located in the fire area was ad- j vertised for sale last year, but j no bids were received for the t timber included in these two j tracts, when it was advertised last fall, Peterson said. The proposed sal will reflect the first major change in bureau stumpage prices since the lum ber prices started to decline last summer, he said. The new prices for Douglas fir are from S4 to So lower per thousand board feet than the previous prices. In addition to the six tracts to be offered for sale March 14, there are three tracts containing an estimated 4,405,000 board feet which are open tor bid at this time. These are tracts for which no bids were received at recent advertised sales. Such no-bid tracts may be kept open for re ceipt of bids for a period of 90 days If the district forester io elects. - j Information regarding any of the proposed sales or the no-bid sales may be secured from the office of the district forester at the Medford city hall.
