At the February meeting of the American Legion auxiliary, Mrs. Ed Leach announced that the film of Girls' State, taken on the Willamette campus last year, would be shown to junior girls at Medford Senior High school February 26. It will be shown ain to unit members and co sponsors that evening. The purpose of Girls Slate is to provide citizenship training forlhe girls and to inform them aout the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship, jn order that they may understand and participate in the functioning of 1 their government. Community service chairman, O Mi. Bert Staats, announced q that the auxiliary now has a hos pital bed and wheelchair to loan to anyone needing these items. Anyone interested may call the auxiliary president, Mrs. Ross Minneci at 2-9625. Mrs. Leo Williams, hospital chairman, stated that plans were 0 progressing for a wheelchair pa rade for the benefit of members of Camp White. This will be pat terned after the wheelchair pa rade held annually at the Port land Veteran's Hospital, in con. junction with the Rose Festival pa Ode. , Mrs. Herb Gifford announced that past presidents will be in charge of the American .Legion's birthday dinner to be held March 12. This is an annual event and this year will com memorate the Legion's 38th an niversary. O a contribution was made to the Crusade for Freedom as the auxiliary believes that this pro gram is essential to the national security of the United States. Mrs. Merle Jarmin presented ano Americanism "program, re viewing the lives of George Washington and Abraham Lin coln. She also reported giving flags to several Bluebird groups. Following the meeting, re freshments were served by Mrs. d Leach and Mrs. Dorothy Sutter. Daughters Honor 25-Year Members Twenty-five year members of ElVa, Deuel Hubbs tent. Daugh ters, of Union Veterans, were honored at a meeting held at the home of Mrs. F. A. Daugher ty, Mings highway. Pins were presented to Mrs. Nettie Grover, OMrs. Maud Stickel, Mrs. L. J. Schade, Mrs. Walter Kindred andD M. Ruby Mallory. Mrs. "Richard Klemm, a former mem trer of Elta Deuel Hubbs tent, will also receive a pin. The tent voted to purchase a United States flag for a cub co ,den. Plans were made for a rum magegsale and a cooked food sale. Tl meeting followed a cov ered dish luncheon, attended by 21 members. The next session will be February 26 in the coun ty cottrthouse. o ChapterCP Chapter CP of PEO will meet Wednesday, February 20, at 12:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. T. M. Garhart, 1017 Reddy ave Onue. Society Miss Molloy Honored Miss Gertrude Molloy, known to her friends and associates as "Molly," was chosen by District 4, Oregon State Nurses associ tion. as the first Nurse of the Month. Miss Molloy was introduced at the last meeting of District 4 nurses, and a thumb-nail sketch of her career presented. Born in Toronto. Canada, Miss Molloy attended high school there, and took a year's course in business. She then entered nurse's train ing at St. Joseph's hospital, De troit, and after graduation was employed at Henry Ford hospi tal. During World War II Miss Malloy served three years in the Army and was in France on D day. She held the rank of first lieutenant. In Medford Miss Molloy has worked at Sacred Heart hospi tal, as office nurse for Dr. A. Erin Merkel, county health offi cer, and with the Medford clinic, where she has been on the staff for the past seven years. For District 4, Miss Molloy has served as president for two terms and has attended three state and one national conven tions. In May the nurse plans to leave on a European tour which will include attending a meet ing of the International Council of Nurses in Rome, Italy. Lake Creek Unit Greets Newcomer Lake Creek Lake Creek Extension unit held the Febru ary meeting at the home of Mrs. Carl Webb, Eagle Point. Mrs. Morgan, a newcomer in this area, was a guest. She and her family are living in tile home of one of the unit's former members, Mrs. Mildred Messai. Mrs. Ed Meyer gave a report on the "Great Decisions" meet ings .which are being held in the county. A lively discussion followed on the bringing of re fugees to this country from Hun gary. Mrs. W. Lemmon collected articles for Fairview home. Ar ticles may be brought to each meeting. Mrs. Meyer and Mrs. Leland M. Charley were project lead ers for the lesson "Buying and Using Foam Rubber." Samples of the different types of rubber were shown. Foam rubber is used most extensively in the West and sponge rubber in the rest of the- United States. The correct method for upholstering a chair was shown. Information was given to the members to be used when purchasing a new piece of furniture. The March meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Fost er Swigert, Meridan road. Discussion Planned On Merit Rating Grants Pass All phases of the merit rating of teachers will be discussed by a panel of speakers at a meeting of Grants Pass Education association to be held at 8 o'clock in the Grants Pass Senior High school build ing. Telephone S4-47CC Eagle Point Unit Honors Four For Long Membership Eagle Point In recognition of at least 20 years membership in the Eagle Point Home Exten sion unit, four members were honored at the last meeting of the unit. It was held at tbe home of Mrs. Don Kimmel, with Mrs. Kimmel and Mrs. Otto Kagel as cohostesses. Mrs. Roy Stanley, Mrs. Ed Chamberlain, Mrs. Buford Clark and Mrs. Victor, the honored members, were named Valentine Queens. Mrs. Don Ashpole, chair man, presented each with a gift, these being hand-stenciled hand kerchiefs made by Mrs. Robert Walch. The "queens" were also presented a double valentine cake made by Mrs. Kimmel and Mrs. Ashpole. Mrs. Clarence Davis, one of the women to bring the exten sion program to the Eagle Point area 25 years ago, gave a resume of the unit's achievements dur ing the past. - Miss Diane Gardiner, Eagle Point High school student, talk ed on 4-H club activities on the local, county, state levels. Mrs. Robert Bitterling and Mrs. Edwin Hayes gave the les son on the buying and use of foam rubber. 4 New Officers Conduct Theta Rho Meeting Omicron chapter of Theta Rho club met at the IOOF hall February 11, with the new of ficers presiding. Plans were made to attend the annual convention to be held in the Central Point IOOF hall March 2. Refreshments were served by Lou Ann Thomasson and Bever ly Tosh. The names of Joyce Gilinsky, chaplain and Lou Ann Thomas- son, retiring president, were in advertently omitted from the list published February 3. A social meeting will be held February 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the IOOF hall. Parents are cordially invited to attend. Duplicate Players Win at Seattle; Tickets on Sale Members of Medford Dupli cate Bridge club entered in the recent regional tournament in Seattle all placed in different events and returned home with prizes and master points. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Berg Marten, Mrs. Richard Mile stone, Mrs. Al Gilhousen, Mrs. William Kennedy and Mrs. W. W. Stevenson. Mrs. R. J. Conroy of Medford and San Francisco placed third in the overall rating for wom en's pairs. Club members are now busy with plans for the tournament which the three valley clubs, Medford, Riverside and Camp White, will sponsor at Camp White Saturday, February 23. All members are selling tickets for the event, which will raise money for the Heart fund. North-south winners for the last meeting were Mrs. Paul Mc Duffee and Mrs. E. L. Miller, first, 8 Hi points; Mrs. William Kennedy and Howard Boyd, second. 79: Miss Isobel Stuart and William Isaacs, tied with Don Reverman and Ray Wise for third place, both scoring 73 points. East-west winners were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Randall, first, 72 points; Mrs. Jack Mitchell and Mrs. Howard Boyd, second, 67; Mrs. F. G. Bunch and Mrs. Marrs Gibbons, third, 6414. 1 Friendship Circle To Meet Tonight- Three Initiated Friendship circle of Women of the Moose will meet tonight at 7:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Desmond Sweet, 2477 Cor ona avenue. Mrs. John Summer field will be co-hostess. The next meeting of WOTM will be February 27. A special meeting of Women of the Moose was held Febru ary 13 at Moose hall. The ritual committee, of which Mrs. Clarence Pfnister is chairman, was in charge of the chapter night program. Enter tainment was provided by Miss Donna Lee Pfnister, who played and sang several songs. Mrs. Dean Kelleys, sponsored by Mrs. John Summerfield, Mrs. J. A. Morris, sponsored by Mrs. James" Roberts, and Mrs. Dee Zimmerman, sponsored by Mrs. John Wilkinson, were in itiated. Members who participated in the birthday march were Mrs. John Norvelle and Mrs. Edward Stevens. A meeting of the publicity committee was held February 16 at the home of Mrs. E. L. Thompson, Central Point. A sweetheart ball was held at the Moose hall Saturday night. Phoenix HEC Plans Meeting Wednesday Phoenix The Home Econom ics club of Phoenix Grange will meet Wednesday, February 20, at the home of Mrs. S. E. Cox, Fern Valley road. A cov ered dish luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m. with Mrs. Charles Lewis and Mrs. S. E. Cox as co-hostesses. Club Meeting Held At Dougherty Home Felixianne club held the monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. F. A. Daugherty, Kings highway. A salad luncheon was served. Members signed valentines to be sent to a member who is ill. Next meeting of the club will be March 12 at the home of Mrs. Lydia Goff, 410 Beatty street. Ladies' Club Same Valley Sams Valley Ladies' club will meet Thurs day, February 21, at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Elwood Ab bott. Mrs. Arnold Gosnell will pre sent the program. Packers, Processors In Annual Convention San Francisco (U.R) Some 2,000 packers and processors were expected today for the opening of the Western States Meat Packers Association and annual convention. Highlights of the four-day meeting will be speeches Thurs day by Assistant Secretary of Agriculture Earl L. Butz and Erick Johnston, president of the Motion Picture Society of America.
