Fbruiry 10, 1957 ROGUE RIVER Requiem Mass Celebrated BY MRS MYRTLE WHIPPLE Rogue River Requiem Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 6, at St. Annes Catholic church for Mrs. Catherine (Kate) Ruehl ing who died Jan. 31 in Van Nuys, Calif, at the age of 76. Mrs. Ruehling was born June 15, 1880, in Kansas. She had made her home in Rogue River for about 21 years. Her husband William (Gus) Ruehling died April 4, 1956. Mrs. Ruehling had been In Chicago for some time and was returning to Rogue River when she was taken by death. Mrs. Ruehling is survived by at sister, Helen Hensel, of Chi cago and a brother, Harry Con lin, of Leavenworth, Kan. Burial was in Woodville cementery. Fire starting from white gas fumes in the lube room destroy ed Lilly's service station lube shop building, an up stairs room and did considerable damage to the side of an adjoining house at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. The station is located on highway 99 at Rogue River Junction. The Mariner's club of the Hope Presbyterian church met in Fellowship hall on Monday, Jan. 23. A pot luck dinner was served at 7 p.m. The following couples were initiated in a candlelight cere rtwiny: Mary and Ray Quesen berry, Elsie and John Paisley, Joan and Fred Sullivan Dorthy and John Harr. The remainder of the evening Two quilts were completed for the Rogue River Community Chest. The Rev. D. F. Barnett Jr., of the First Baptist church of Santa Rosa, Calif, visited last week with his parents the Rev. and Mrs. D. F. Barnett Sr. and preached in the Presbyterian church Sunday morning. Miller and son Rus sel were Klamath Falls visitors Tuesday. Mrs. Dave Shaw, Nee Marvis Reeter, was honored at a bridal shower Tuesday evening given at the home of Mrs. Joel Dennis by Mrs. Dennis, Mrs. Wilbur Milton and Mrs. Sid Baker. Guests included the Mesdames Bryon Cummings Sam Even sizer, Delbert Lee, Ralph Milton, Bill Bean, Roy Strickland, Reed Carter, Carl Magerle, Bill Mil ton, Dick Skevington, Dan Even- sizer, Don Elder, Bob Louis Smith, Orvis Reeter, Wesley Brown, Alyce Young, Bud Dick, Maurice Jones, Rolland Jones, Nat Hart, Lloyd Smith, Elmer Milton, Don Dimmick, Dale Hatch, Harold Towse, and War ren Bottroff. The guest of honor received many gifts. By MRS. CLYDE KELL Gold Hill Mr. and Mrs. Claude Dickson celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on Feb. 6, with four generations of the family at their home for a dinner party. The occasion was also the birthdays of both Mr. and Mrs. Dickson, who were 75 years old on Feb. 6. The Dicksons were married in York, Neb., where they lived until coming to Gold Hill in 1950. Present were their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill ! Moser. Gold Hill; the Moser's daughter, Mrs. Neil Richardson and 17-month-old daughter, Mary Ann of Ashland. Another daugh ter and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Dickson were unable to be there. The Laurel earden cluh will hold a card party at the civic club room Thursday. Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. Canasta and Pinochle will be played and prizes given. A small charge will cover the cost of cards and refreshments. The party is open to the public. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Miller en tertained with a dinner Sunday, Jan. 27, for the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. Don Haynes of Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rhoten and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rhoten of Wimer and Russell Miller. Redding Man Arraigned In District Court Jack Simer, 56, Redding, Calif., was arraigned in district court Friday on a charge of ut tering and publishing a false check. , He was bound over to the grand jury and is being held on $1,1500 bond. Simer was extra dited from Redding Wednesday by sheriff's deputies. Montana has an Indian popu lation of about 15,000. Mrs. Lawrence Smith, who lives on Sardine Creek road, left Feb. 2 for Corvallis, where she will visit her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pettey. The Petteys are the par ents of a new baby boy. Mrs. Pettey is the former Marion Smith. The couple also have twin girls. Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Dusen berry and son, Gary, of Sams Valley visited in Trail Feb. 4 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Dusenberry. Lewis and Loyd are brothers. Hugh Hays was taken to' a Medford hospital Feb. 5. Mr. and Mrs. Hays recently moved to Medford. Latest reports are that Hays is improving. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Parsley of Sardine Creek road were din ner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Martin in Grants Pass the evening of Feb. 4. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Smith and son Delmer visited later the same evening at the Martin home. Mrs. Lila Whitehorn from Vancouver, B. C, visited a week at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Hittle at their home on First avenue. Mrs. Whitehorn left Feb. 4 for Los Angeles, Calif., to visit another sister, Mrs. Marguerite Martin. According to Mrs. Al Beman, her mother-in-law, Mrs. Iola "Gussie" Beman, who suffered a heart attack recently, is mak ing a satisfactory recovery at a Grants Pass hospital. A meeting of the Gold Hill volunteer firemen is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. in the fire hall. Paul Thompson, president of the group, has announced that re freshments will be served fol lowing this meeting. All mem bers are urged to attend. It has been announced by Gilbert Mack that the Salk anti polio vaccine will be given at the local school, Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 9 until 11 a.m. Past presidents of the Gold Hill PTA will be honored at a meeting Thursday, Feb. 14, in the Hanby gym, at 8 p.m. Re freshments will be served by the fourth grade mothers. James Chaplin is a patient at the Osteopathic hospital in Med ford. He was taken there Mon day, Feb. 4. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Parker of Lampman road received a phone cal from their son, Don, Feb. 6, telling them he would arrive home for a visit on Thurs day, Feb. 7. Don enlisted in the U. S. Navy in November and has been in San Diego, Calif., since that time. Robert Lance returned Feb. 6 from Seattle, Wash., where he spent a week visiting with Pete Thompson. Pete is employed by Boeing Aircraft company. Mrs. H. A. Dinsmore returned to Coquille Feb. 7 after spending several days looking after her property on Fifth avenue and visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adelbert Taylor Sr. A donation of 12.40 was made to the March of Dimes by the Gold Hill Health Unit at a meet ing, Tuesday, Feb. 5, held at the home of Mrs. Deloes Walker. The president, Mrs. E. J. Knapp officiated over the busi ness session, at which time final arrangements were made for the rummage sale to be held in Medford at the Fehl buildings on Ivy street. February 20, 21, and 22 are the dates set for the sale, from which all profits will go to the parsonage fund of the Community Methodist church. Mrs. Arthur Boye, chairman of the sale urges all ladies to help. All those who need transpor tation on the three days of the sale are reminded to be at Walk er's service station, by 10 a.m. Wednesday. Cars will leave by 8:30 a.m. on Thursday and' Fri day of that week. Mrs. Dale Smith became a member of the unit at this meet ing. Following the business meet ing, the afternoon was spent sew ing ties on over seventy assort ed pastel ditty bags for "the Rogue Valley Memorial hospital. The dessert luncheon which preceded the business meeting, 4 CLUB NEWS PHOENIX 4-H DAIRY CLUB The monthly meeting of the Phoenix 4-H Dairy club was held Thursday, Feb. 7 at 243 So. Stage rd. The major portion of the evening was spent re hearsing a skit as entertainment for the general meeting held the next night. The dairy mem bers also set up their procedure for putting on a cake-walk at the general .meeting. Under new business it was de cided to try to put on an act for the Friendship Follies, to be presented March 14. The Friend ship Follies is a countywide en tertainment program put on by all the 4-H clubs in an effort to raise money as an aid in the In ternational Farm Youth Ex change program. The Phoenix Dairy club wants to present, if possible, a version of the TV program, "I've Got A Secret." Friday, Feb. 8, the Dairy club presented the one-act play, "School Daze," for the general meeting at the Phoenix Grange hall. The cast included Jim Mar tin as teacher; Charles Martin, Gail Glidden, Norman Dits worth, Mary Fowler, David Johnson and Jonathan Johnson as pupils. The cake-walk netted $4.80 for the general club treasury. Gail Glidden, Reporter. Cochairmen Named For SOC Dad's Day Ashland Dennis Davis and Bob Semon have been appointed cochairmen of Dad's Day, spon sored annually at Southern Ore gon college by Theta Delta Phi, men's scholastic honorary. . According to Don Lowrance, president of Theta Delta Phi, the event will be Feb. 16. After the meeting, 23 of the bags were found lit tered around the school grounds where they had been discarded. men for the event. The members chose the name "Kitchen Kids" for the club name. A report on the March of Dimes program was given as $15. Both Applegate and Ruch clubs participated. Mary Harriott gave a demon stration on preparing a white sauce. The next meeting will be held at the home of Marthanne Good win, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. was served by Mrs. Walker, who was assisted by Mrs. Wilmer Bailey and Mrs. Clarence Par sley, in serving refreshments of angel food cake, decorated in the valentine motif, and coffee, to 18 members and five visitors. The visitors were Mrs. Meta Powers, Mrs. Helen Wegner, Mrs. Alfred Bailey, Mrs. Floyd Lance and Mrs. Gerald Whalen. The next meeting of the unit will be held at the home of Mrs. J. G.
