o SOC Red Raiders Spill Oregon Tech Quintet Ashland Southern Oregon I college's Red Raiders upset tJ".e league leading Oregon Tech Owls here last night 62-39 in a basketball thriller. The Red Rafters of the Rogue took an early lead and held it throughout the first half, walking off the floor at half time with a 33-30 margin. Davw D'Olivo, sophomore transfer who sat out the first 18 weeks of school fired through 16 points during the crucial moments of the game to keep SOC in front of the Techmen. With eight minutes remain ing in the game. Coach Schopfs Raider hoopsterc started playing ball control wrti the Owls. Bill Hollingsworth scored a cripple to put SOC ahead 349. A free throw by Jcrj-y Fasteen n d a bucket byo John Rhine nar rowed the gapcto 53-52. In the second half SOC open ed up a 53-47 gap but OTI pressed the Red Raiders the rest of the way before absorbing thfjjr third conference set-back. Owli Still Lead The defeat still left the Owls In front of the pack with a 8-3 recordD Esstern, Oregon which plays OTI at KTamath F&ls this week end is in second place with a 6J( record while the Red Raiders are still in third place with a 6-5 league mark. Wild Bill is remembered here for his showings against Bull Montana a d Kurt von Poppen heim last winter. He has anoth er years experience under his belt now and figures to be pretty rough guy to beat. Bill is an ex-Navy champion and all in all is a pretty rugged individual. Beat Montana His opponent, Carreon, won on a foul against Bull Montana three weeks ago and proved to be a real crowd pleaser. Tito is known in the Southwest as the "Elvis Presley of Mexico." He wears long sideburns and is a handsome hunk of man. Many fans predict a future comparable to Pepper Gomez for him. Tito says he will be giving away 20 pounds to Savage but will make up for it with his greater speed. The attractive double portion of the main event will feature Alec Perez, the ex-boxer. against popular and handsome Reg Parks. Perez defeated Pierre DeGIane here three weeks ago and proved himself to be pretty rough. Parks is built like Lou Thesz and can take care of him self in any kind of company. Bout Taken By GiardeHo Chicago U.R) A victor ious but thoroughly dissatisfied Joey Giardello today rated Rory Calhoun as the next target on his path toward the middle weight title. "I'll do better against Calhoun than I did in this one," Giardel lo said after scoring a split de cision over Randy Sandy, a 9-2 underdog in a 10-round battle at the Chicago Stadium Wednes day night. The win was Giardello's sev enth straight ring triumph and ended Sandy s string at five. "I was overconfident," Gia- dello said. "I thought I'd knock him out in two rounds. I thought that for the last couple of weeks ever since I signed for the match. "But I just couldn't get off. I don't know what was wrong, the Philadelphia battler said. Giardello, ranked second among the middleweights by the National Boxing Association, was unimpressive in beating Sandy for his 65th win in 83 professional starts. Referee Walter Brightmore gave him a 48-44 edge and Judge Spike McAdams a 47-45 margin. Judge Frank Clark's vote went to Sandy, 47-46. Bulldog Ninth Tops Eagle Point McLoughlin Junior high ninth grade basketeers defeated Eagle Point Freshmen 38 to 21 Tues day. The Bulldogs had period spreads of 10 to 2, 25 to 10 and 35 to 17. Cooper of Eagle Point was top point man with 14 mark ers. Ken Dudkee had eight for McLoughlin. Eighteen Bulldog players got into the game. McLoughlin seventh plays West Side there Friday after noon. At Brookings they gave the Eagles a tough battle even in the league game they dropped. Brookings has good rebounders in Ron and Marv Bullock and any one of the five is a threat with his scoring. Lea lagged behind Company A 26 to 36 at the half last night but warmed up to overtake the Guardsmen midway through the last half. Don Wendt led Lea with 21 points. Ted Yarnell put in 22 and Weddle 18 for Na tional Guard. Hawkinson's fought to a 25 to 9 lead over Headquarters which came back to close the deficit to 28 to 21 at the half. After the intermission the hustling Guard five narrowed the gap to 41 to 37 but the Tire team surged for 11 points to reestab lish command 52 to 37.
