February 8. 1957 PROSPECT Cat Returns After 4 Years By GENEIL SPRUILL Prospect Four years ago Mr and Mrs. George Brown and family, along with their pet calico cat, went on a vacation to Lordsburg. N.M., to visit with Mr. Brown's bother and family. While there the cat disappeared. The Browns advertsied for its return, but in vain. Recently, however, the cat returned to the Brown's home in Lordsburg. The Browns in Prospect are now awaiting its arrival. and Mrs. Joe Colley have both been sick recently. Guests at the Lewis Robertson home over the weekend was Mrs. .Warren Long and baby daughter of Olympia, Wash. Jerry Robertson, who was mar ried Dec. 8 in Washington was in Prospect with his new bride. O Gale Wilde, formerly of Pros peSPnow married and living at Idaho Falls, laho, announces the arrival of a new baby boy. This is the Weber's second child. Mrs. John Spencer is ill and confined to her hoirie and Mr. Mr. and, Mrs. Bob Johnson are the parents of a new baby son born Jan. 28. The baby has been named Kenneth Robert. The ski tow at Union Creek is again in operation each Sat urday and Sunday. Eight members of the Pros Pect Lions club traveled to Eagle Point Tuesday night to play the Eagle Point Lions in a March of Dimes basketball game. Those participating were Wes Stauffer, Ed Towne, Gene Burrill. Dar wine Bevens, Ralph Goode, George Hubbard, Doc Bean and Kenneth Vannice. BY MRS. CLYDE KELL Gold Hill Arrangements were made for a smorgasbord dinner, at a special meeting of group 3 from the Women s Society of the Community Meth odist church. The dinner will be given in the basement of the church on March 2, with serv ing to start at 4 p.m. Mrs. Erwin Hoffman, who is j chairman of group three, was hostess for the meeting which was held at her home on high way 99 north, at 1 p.m., Jan 24. Ladies attending this meet- i ing were Mrs. Roy Cameron, Mrs. Grace Bruce, Mrs. Millie Walker, Mrs. Helen Wegner, Mrs. Roy Eskew, Mrs. Frank Carter, and Mrs. Alfred E. Bai- Mrs. Ray Davis recently pur chased the "Your Beauty Salon" at 221 North Riverside in Med ford. Mr. and Mrs. Davis make their home at the Rogue Villa Trailer' court in Gold Hill. Miss Delores Cooper was taken to the Osteopathic hos pital in Medford Saturday, Feb 2, where she underwent major surgery late Saturday afternoon. Miss Cooper is the daughter of Mayor and Mrs. Ernie Cooper and is a student at St. Mary's academy in Medford. month at 7:30 p.m.. Calhoun stated that all men are welcome. Mrs. Hazel Kirk, who lives in Medford, was a visitor Thurs day, Jan. 31, at the homes of Mrs. Clyde Kell and Mrs. Fred Lester. The Kirks are former residents of Gold Hill, having been in the resturant business here. Mr. and Mrs. Kirk now are owners of a cafe in Medford. Two of the bride clubs of Pros pect had a joint March of Dimes bridge party at the home of Mrs. Clarence Hedgepeth. Mrs. John Davidson won high score. Mrs. Ralph Goode second, and Mrs. Paul Doe, low. Earl Rambo visited at the home of James Garrett over the weekend. Cub Pack 19 met Thursday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. at the Commu nity hall, with 71 adults and cubs in attendance. Boys receiv ing their neckerchief and Bob cat pins were: James and Russell Slack, Gary Downing, Jimmie Rogers and Terry Parton. Rex Boothby received his Wolf badge. Den 2, with 100 per cent attendance, won the attendance award. The award was accepted by Mrs. H. Maurer, den mother. Jerry Chapman and Jerry Bev ens, of den 6,' led the group in a song "The Noble Duke of York." Den 6 was also awarded the Be Square Banner for the month of February. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Boothby have presided over the meetings for the past several months in the absence of Dar Bevens. Cub Scoutmaster. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month and all parents of Cubs are urged to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Courtney of Medford were Dinner guests Friday, February 1 at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee H. Germany (U.R) West Germany's 81-year-old Chancel lor Konrad Adenauer plans to step down in 19o9 without try ing to name any one successor, according to close associates. The sources said Adenauer is confident of winning next Sep tember's general elections and hopes to remain at the head of the government until 1959 when he will be 83. He will then stand for the of fice of federal president which becomes vacant that year at the end of President Theodor Heuss' second term. Mrs. Melvin Allen and two sons, Larry and Curtis of Med ford visited Sunday, Feb. 3, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee H. Marsden. Mrs. Eva Wagle recently re turned to her home on Fifth ave nue after convalescing for many months at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dungey follow ing an injury last summer. According to Gilbert Mack, principal of the Gold Hill school children of the school will par ticipate in a magazine drive for the benefit of the student body. This drive is expected to start about the middle of February. The valentine parties will be held Feb. IS for the students at Hanby school, due to a basket ball game which is to be played at Phoenix on Thursday, Feb. 14. The parties at the Hanby school will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It has been announced that the Patrick school youngsters will also have their valentine parties on Friday, Feb. 15, the hour set from 2 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be furn ished and served by mothers. The regular meeting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be held as usual in the Scout hall this Friday evening, Feb. 8. The Auxilary will meet the same date at the home of Mrs. Vaughn Whitmore. Mrs. Howard Harper left Jan. 28 to visit her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Heber, who live in Fresno, Calif. The Hebers are parents of a new baby girl. Mrs. Lester James has been in Bellingham. Wash., the last two weeks, visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kast ama. Mrs. James has been car ing for the new baby, Colleen Anne, born recently to the Kast amas. Mrs. Kastama is the form er Diane James. Mrs. Lydia Dobson of Ash land was a recent dinner guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Molloy and sons, David and Donnie. According to Fire Chief Clyde Kell a serious fire was avoided due to the alertness of Jerry Parsons, driver of a Medford bakery truck, early Monday morning, Feb. 4. Kell received a call from the driver at 5:30 a.m. and , upon investigat ing they found a small hole had burned in the bed of the truck due to heat from the exhaust pipe. f- Mrs. Charles Bell was hon ored guest at a birthday dinner given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Molloy, Sunday Feb. 3. Other guests were her hus band, Pamela and Charles Bell and Molloy's sister Gertrude from Medford. "In the world but not of the world" was the title of a talk presented by Mrs. Bill Mc Hargue at the last meeting of the ladies met for the second time in January at the church. A potluck dinner preceded the business session which was conducted by the president, Mrs. W. A. Price. Following the business the ladies worked on quilts and missionary clothing. A box of baby clothing was packed that day for shipment to. orphans. Visitors at the meeting included Mrs. Floyd Romine, Mrs. Fred Governor, Mrs. Loyd Governor, Mrs. Carl Routh, and Mrs. Louise Robinson. Mem bers present other than Mrs. Price and Mrs. McHargue were Mrs. Joe Buchanan, Mrs. Erma McCoy. Mrs. Ivan Governor, and Mrs. Grover Calhoun, wife of the pastor of the church. It has been announced by the Rev. Grover "Tom" Calhoun, that a men's Fellowship league was recently organized at the Assembly of God church, when several men of the church had a spaghetti dinner and elected officers. Jack White was elected president and Joe Buchanan was elected social chairman for the group. There will be only two officers and meetings will be held the last Saturday of each Lee H. Marsden is making a good recovery from his recent surgey. Mrs. Donald Morrow was elected president of Amethyst Rebekah Friendship club for the ensuing year at a recent meeting held at the home of Mrs. Clarence Parsley, who lives on Sardine Creek road. Other elected were Mrs. Robert Mc Daniel, vice president; Mrs. Charles Bell, treasurer and Mrs. Paul Molloy, secretary. Mrs. Molloy, retiring pres ident of the club, conducted the business meeting. Mrs. Delos Walker is the retiring treasurer and Mrs. Clyde the retiring sec retary. A dinner and theater party is planned for the regular meet ing date in February. Members decided to honor the new of ficers with a party in place of the usual installation ceremon ies. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Parsley. The last meeting of the Past Noble Grands club was held at the home of Mrs. Paul Thomp son, with the president, Mrs. J. Les Graffis, presiding. A valentine party will be held at the next meeting. Plans will also be made at that time for the club's annual dinner which will be held in March for mem bers and their families at the IOOF hall. Letters were read at this meet ing from Barney Kellogg of Salem and Mrs. Kenneth Palm er of Arizona, both of them be ing former residents of Gold Hill. Election of officers will be held at the February meeting to be held at the home of Mrs. Graffis with Mrs. Cecil John son co-hostess. Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Wil liam Hittle served refreshments to 14 members, at the close of the meeting. A layette shower was given for Mrs. Lenard Kell at the home of Mrs. Robert Pugh Wed nesday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. Dec orations were in the usual pink and blue motive. The shower was attended by the following ladies: Mrs. Chester Smith, Mrs. Alan Hilkey, Mrs. Ernie Cooper, Mrs. Floyd Lance, Mrs. Aimie Ross, Mrs. Louis Robinson, Mrs. Floyd Taylor, Mrs. Elsa Austin, Mrs. James Arnold, Mrs. Sid Payne, Mrs. Helen Shoemaker all of Gold Hill, and Mrs. J. H. Crawford and Miss Lourene Kell 852 Palm Street, Medford. The co-hostesses were Mrs. Alva Cook, Mrs. Jim Martin and Mrs. Mike Taylor, who assisted the hostess, Mrs. .Pugh, with serv ing the refreshments. The Womens Society of the Community Methodist church will meet Friday, Feb. 8, at the home of Mrs. S. M. Christensen, whose home is on highway 99 north, at 11 a.m. Each lady is requested to bring a sack lunch, the dessert and coffee will be served by Mrs. Christensen and the co-hostess, Mrs. Sam Jones. "Whom shall I send?" will be the title of the lesson planned for that date. The devotions will also be included in the program in the forenoon. The1 president, Mrs. Fred Jones will preside over the business session. A meeting is planned for the Womens Group of the Christian church, on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m., to be held at the home of Mrs. Bessie Henderson on highway 99 north. A missionary and devotional program will be presented fol lowed by a social hour. Refresh ments will be served by the hostess.
