Mr. Buck, following gradu
fion from Yale with a master of
forestry degree in 05, served
with the forest service in Trinity
National forest. Calif., and was
deputy supervisor of the Klam

Later in 1908 he was super
visor of Crater (now Rogue
River) Nationalforest, and later
was appointed assistant 1 the
chief of the division of opera
tion of tiie Portland district
office.
He sgrved in the service's land
management office for Oregon
and Washington, and was dis
trict forester for the two states
prior to being assigned oto the
office' of the chief forester in
WashiSgton, D.C., in 1939. ,
As regional forester, he pre
moted sustained yield and selec
tive logging. He led in planning
and developing recreation facili
ties in the Northwests nayonai
forests, including "construction
of Timberline lodge. He fetired
in 1942 after serving with the
service for 37 years.

agonizing reappraisal" of the
reappraisal program on prop
erty assessment in Oregon.
Sen. Walter J. PtSrson of
Portlaigi, chairman of the com
mittee, said both Republican and
Democratic members of the
group agreed that reports of
statewide protests at some re
sults of the reappraisal program
merited thorough hearings by
the committee.
Pearson said some inequities
had been reported on non-in-c
o m e property, particularly
homes.
The committee will hold a
hearing at 7:45 p.m. Monday in
the large hearing room in tha
basement of the capitol, at
which time tax commissioner
Sam Stewart will explain the
program to date. The public is
invited to attend this hearing,
but the first night will be con
fined to hearing the explanation
ofjhe program by Stewart and
others.
On Feb. 11 at 7:45 p.m. in this
same place, the meSting will be
