SIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Thursday, January 31, 1957 Mystery Explosion Rocks Montgomery In Racial Unrest . By UNITED PRESS A new explosion early today rocked a Montgomery, Ala., area that has been the scene of bomb ings and mipings but police ailed in hours of search to find where it occurred. The blast, heard practically all over the capital, sent a horde of police and newsmen scouring Negro residential areas for signs of fresh damage. Follows Racial Terrorism The explosion followed a wave of racial terrorism which brought formal charges today to seven white men arrested for dynamitings and shootings in Montgomery's 13 months of bus integration disputes. Police Commissioner Clyde Sellers, disclosing the arrests Wednesday night, said some of the men have confessed a bomb ing which injured one Negro last Sunday. Other developments: Federal Judge Emett Choate refused in Miami to dismiss a suit for integration of schools of Palm Beach County, Fla., and gave the school board 30 days to file an answer. Two teen-agers went on trial In Montgomery on misdemeanor charges for allegedly burning a cross last December at the home of U. S. District Judge Frank Johnson. Two Tennessee state legisla tors from Clinton refused to sup port a proposal that Gov. Frank Clement use his police power to oust Negroes from the Clinton High School. Florida Man Admits Slaying Waitress Bartow, Fla. (U.R) A citrus packing house worker today con fessed grisly details .of how he picked up a waitress at a bar, took her to a remote lake and ahot her "because I had a de aire to kill." Lester Earl Parker, 43, led sheriff's deputies Wednesday to the woman's decomposed body submerged under a log in a secluded woodland pond. She was identified as 'Edna Carter Cooley, 36, a twice-married waitress and mother of two children. Sheriff Hagan Parrish quoted Parker as saying he shot the woman last Jan. 14 after he picked her up at a bar in Lake land, Fla., for the express pur pose of killing her. He had bought the gun a few hours earlier. Young Lovers' Plan Lands Them in Jail Paris (U.R) Two young French lovers were in jail to day on charges of making a good living by bilking more than 60 Paris hotels. Police said Bernard Cottin and Jacqueline Boulet, both 22, would check Into a- new hotel each day. They would spend one night. In the morning Jacquel ine would descend to the desk and ask to borrow some paper and string to take some clothes to the dry cleaners. A short time later the couple would leave the hotel with a bundle. In the bundle, police said. were rugs, blankets, sheets and curtains from the ho tel room. These would be sold to a second hand dealer and then .the couple would check Into another hotel. Ousted Hungarian Dictator in Mongolia London (U.R) Matyas Ra kosi, ousted Stalinist dictator of Hungary, is living in the Far Eastern Soviet Republic of Mon golia, Communist official news sources here said today. The informants said the one time Hungarian Communist "strong-man" has left Moscow for the native land of the Mon golian woman he married years ago while undergoing Bolshevik training in the Soviet capital. It could not be established whether "old potato head," as Rakosi was dubbed by Hungar ians, went to the distant Asian republic on his own accord or was exiled by the Kremlin leaders.
