Qualifications for
Tower Jobs Changed
Changes in qualifications for
aircraft traffic control jobs have
been announced by James T.
Pyle, administrator of Civil Aer
onautics, U.S. department of
commerce.
The qualifications were chang
ed in order that more people
would be eligible to fill vacan
cies in expanding CAA traffic
control facilities. Pyle stated.
Under the revised require
ments for airways operations
specialist positions, an intru-
ment rating on a pilot's license
is no longer necessary as in the
past. The new qualifications per
mit the substitution of one year
at an accredited college or uni
versity for nine months general
experience or for 60 hours of
solo flight. The old substitution
of education for experience was
one year above high school level
for three months general exper
ience or 30 hours of flying time.
Eliminated from the qualifi
cations for controller positions
was the provision that six
months of qualifying experience
be within the 10 years preceding
the date of the announcement of
the examination.
The other experience change
permits three years of progres
sively responsible experience as
a radiotelegraph or -radiotele
phone point-to-point communica
tions operator to qualify for the
next highest salary level.

Beaver Marsh Job
Deadline Extended
Washington U.PJ The Fed
eral Power Commission yester
day issued an order extending to
July 1, 1958, the date by which
the Eugene Water and Electric
Board must start construction of
its proposed Beaver Marsh proj
ect, Sen. Richard Neuoerger (D-
Ore.) said.
The commission also denied a
request made by the Save the
McKenzie Association for a pub
lic hearing on the extension.
"I regret failure of the com
mission to back- scenic outdoor
values of the state by outright
denial of license extension but
regard the decision as partial
victory in our effort to preserve
the Marsh area since the com
mission policy has been opposed
to more than one extension,"
Neuberger said.
The Oregon Democrat added
that if efforts to finance con
struction are blocked until July
1, 1958, any additional exten
sion seems unlikely.

Linn County Slayers
May Not Stand Trial
Albany, Ore. U.R) District
Attorney Courthey Johns said
today state hospital reports
leave doubt that either of two
confessed Linn ' county slayers
will stand trial.
One case is that of Tommy
Reppeto, 21, Lebanon, who ad
mitted beating his stepmother,
Mrs. Mary Hattie Reppeto, 72, to
death with a piece of stove wood
Jan. 4. The other is that of Mrs.
Shirley Albeke, 21, who- con
fessed drowning her two-year-
old son Steven, in a bathtub last
Nov. 10.
Johns said a hospital report
indicated that Reppeto apparent
ly did not understand the ser

pital also reported, he said, that
Mrs. Albeke was unable to as
