Dr. Winston D. Purvine. outline his administra tive problems. The Senate Education Com mittee and members of the Joint Ways and Means Committee also will be invited on the inspection trip. II Measures Outlined Dr. Purvine outlined 11 legis lative measures needed to im prove school administration at the education committee hearing under Rep. Joe Rogers. Inde pendence Democrat. Labor and school leaders also testified. Representatives of the Slate Board of Education which ad ministers OTI and the State PORTLAND J485 PUTax KMSTCOffST. J-1 that the problem of which agency should rightly administer the school had never been formally discussed. Rep. Rogers said recommend ations of the two boards would help his committee make up its mind about OTTs legislative re quests. Positive Authority It was pointed out that all 11 bill requests were intended to give the Board of Education posi tive authority to perform ad ministrative duties which the higher education board already has power to perform. Francis Smith of the Board of Education suggested that It might be simpler to transfer ad ministration of the school to the Board of Higher Education. He said administering OTI was the only job of its kind performed by his board and that it took much time. However, he said he Roseburg Father Held in Slaying Roseburg (U.R) A 33-year-old Roseburg father of three small children was being held in the Douglas county jail today in connection with the rifle slaying of his wife last night. Laval Lloyd Geisler allegedly fired a fatal bullet into the body of his wife Barbara in their home last night as the result of a do mestic quarrel. Police said the shot penetrated the woman's arm and entered her lower chest. The couple's three children, 5 to 10 years of age. were asleep in the home at the time. Neighbors called police after hearing the couple quarreling and then a sudden shot. Under sheriff Carl Smith said he ar rived at the home to find the woman lying on the floor. Mrs. Geisler was rushed to a hospital where she died shortly after arrival. Geisler offered no resistance to officers who placed him under arrest in his home. was speaking just as an individ ual. School Asks $4.6 Million Purvine said there were many excellent installations at OTI, that all but one of the buildings were basically sound and that it would take S15 to S18 million to place the school somewhere else. He said its costs per stu dent of S971 per year were com parable with similar institutions and were falling year by year. The school is asking 4.600, 000 for capital improvements. Purvine said one 420-foot building should be replaced and work done on student dormi tories. He said Oregon would eventually need another techni cal school to keep pace with the constantly increasing need for technicians. About 1,000 stu dents are now enrolled at OTI. Legislative requests explained would approve charging stu dents a building fee, provide for bond issues, enlarge revolving funds so that cash could be paid for bills, enable the school to buy and sell real property, and allow it to accept scholarship money. U.S. Attaches Told To Leave Russia I London (U.R) Radio Moscow announced today two U. S. mili- tary attaches have been ordered to leave Russia, apparently in retaliation for the expulsion of I Soviet officials from the United States. The broadcast said a Soviet note demanded the "immediate departure" of Maj. Hubert Tan' sey and Capt. Charles W. Stock ell, assistant military attaches assigned to the U. S. Embassy in Moscow. The note, handed today to Ambassador Charles E. Bohlen, said the two men had been "en gaging in activities incompatible with their status as diplomatic officials," Radio Moscow said. Ethel Waters Defeated On "Hold That Note," Negro singer Elhel Waters was defeat ed by Thomas Connell, Cincin nati, who identified a song she has been singing for 20 years. The 20-year-old college stu dent named the . song "Blue Skies" faster than Miss Waters, but was eliminated after win ning only S125. Miss Waters amassed a total of S10.400 dur ing her previous two weeks on the show. A husband preferred .to trust himself Tuesday night on the quiz show "Do You Trust Your Wife?" and assured the couple of a SI 00 weekly income for the next 15 years. The husband, Erik Gude, Palos Verdes, Calif., and his wife. Helena, defeated Dick Smith. Claremont, Calif., to win the income. Marine, Partner Win On another quiz show, U. S Marine Maj. Roy Whitlock and Miss Lisa Drake. St. Louis. teamed up to win $20,000 in their next to final round of the S25.000 golden medley marathon on "Name That Tune." Actor Errol Flynn increased his quiz show earnings to $20,- 000 Tuesday night on "The Big Surprise." His category is "ships and the sea." Flynn will return next week to insure his $20,000 or go for 530,000.
