The car she was operating north on Front St., col lided with a Pacific Motor Trans port diesel truck, which was traveling west on Fourth St., ac cording to city police. Driver of the truck was Herman Martin Best of Eugene. Mrs. Berry re ceived head and knee injuries. Neither Best nor Leann Berry, 5, a passenger in Mrs. Berry's car, were injured. Obituaries JOS1E M. COOK Private funeral services for Mrs. Josie M. Cook, of Medford who died Thursday, will be held in Conger-Morris chapel at 10 a.m. Monday. Dr. Jouett P. Bray will officiate. Committal will be in Memory Gardens Memorial park. Mrs. Cook was born Dec. 28. 1880, in Roanoke. Va., and lived in southern Oregon for the past 70 years. On May 23, 1897, in Gold Hill, she was married to Robert Cook, who preceded her in death in 1952. Survivors include seven chil dren; Earl H. Cook. Gold Hill; Robert H. Cook, Ashland; Mrs. Laura Derrick, Central Point; Mrs. Opal Gilchrist, Gold Hill; Floyd M. Cook, Portland; Mrs. Edith Brenner and Mrs. Mar jorie Lunsman both of Medford: 14 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Enid Ebinger, preceded her in death. CARESWELL Funeral services for Harold E. Careswell, 64, of Camp White, who died in the VA Domiciliary Wednesday, will be held in the Camp White Chapel at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Chaplain Samuel Fel ler will officiate. Conger-Morris Funeral home is in charge of ar rangements. Mr. Careswell was born July 16, 1892, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a veteran of World War I serving from March 14, 1918, through Aug. 6, 1919, as a private. He re-enlisted Aug. 31, 1920, and served until July 22, 1921. Survivors include his wife and a brother, A. B. Careswell, Los Angeles, Calif. PROMOTED Lewis Glen McLaren, son of Mr. . and Mrs. L. G. McLaren, 1820 Crown St., Medford, has been promoted to battalion staff officer in the Army ROTC cadet regiment at Oregon State col lege. His rank will be captain. Allen, 880 Stewart ave., Medford, has been accepted for the "Oregon WAC Platoon," ac cording to Capt. Lillian E. Ba ker of the WAC career center, Portland. Miss Allen will be enlisted Tuesday, then will start basic training at Fort McClellen, Ala. After basic training she will re turn home on leave. LUCAS Funeral services for Howard William Lucas, 48, of 404 North Grape St., Medford, who died Thursday will be held in Conger Morris chapel at 1:30 p.m. Mon day. The Rev. John Reynolds of the First Presbyterian church will officiate. Committal will be in IOOF cemetery. Mr. Lucas was born Aug. 14, 1908, in Burr Oak, Kan. On June 14, 1949, in Corvallis, Ore., he was married to Dorothy Wil liams, who survives. He was a veteran of World War II serv ing from April 29, 1944, through July 19, 1944, and receiving his discharge at Farragut, Ida., ,as an apprentice seaman. Survivors, besides his wife, include two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Brown, Littleton, Colo.; and Mrs. Virginia Johnson, Burr Oak, Kan.; sons, Gerald L. Butler, Medford. and Fred L Butler, Grants Pass. IN ARMY Engelbert T. Marek, husband of Mrs. Janelle . Marek, route 3, box 233, Medford, enlisted in the Army anti-aircraft com mand on Jan. 23. He will complete training at Fort Ord, Calif., then will return home on leave. He will later re port to the 85th AAA guided missile battalion at Fort Wayne, Detroit, Mich., for assignment as electronics specialist. BESSIE GISH HERRIN Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Gish Herrin, 64, who died in an Ashland hospital Thurs day, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Littwiller's Mountain View chapel in Ash land. The Rev. Fred Plocher will officiate. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery. Mrs. Herrin was born in Enid, Okla., July 20, 1892, and was married to Herman H. Herrin in New Mexico in 1918. They moved to Ashland from Long mont, Colo., Dec. 24, 1941. She was employed by South ern Oregon college prior to be coming ill. Survivors include her hus band, three sons, Bob Herrin and Roy Herrin, both stationed with the Navy at San Diego, Calif., and Holden Herrin, who is stationed with the Navy at Jacksonville, Fla.; two daugh ters, Mrs. Ben Darris, Medford, and Mrs. Fern Fagan, Ashland; a brother, Roy Gish, Central Point; two sisters, Mrs. J.
