Local and Meeting The Rogue Valley Transportation club will meet at noon Thursday, Jan. 17, in the Pioneer room of the Jackson hotel. Theft Henry Harold Rowell, 521 Edwards St., Medford. re ported to police Monday the theft of a six volt battery from his residence. It was valued at $5, police said. V Girl Injured Frieda Grace Fears, 16 Chestnut St., Medford, told police Monday her daugh ter, Janet Lee Fears, 8, suffered an arm injury from a B-B gun pellet while walking home from school. The largest group of convention delegates in this eastern Oregon city's his tory is expected to be on hand tomorrow for the opening of the Oregon State Elks association mid-winter session. Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the Jackson County btockmen s association was cheduled for Feb. 11 at the Cen tral Point Grange ball starting at 10 a.m. at a board of direc tors meeting Tuesday. EARLENE M. FERN LUND AND INFANT SON Funeral services for M r s. Earlene M. Fernlund. 30, of 786 Gilman rd., Medford, who died Tuesday, and her infant son, Daniel, who died Friday, will be held in Conger-Morris chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday. Bishop D. E. Nelson of lhe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will officiate. Committal will be in Memory Gardens Memorial park. Mrs. Fernlund was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Walla Walla, Wash. She was a member of the Lat ter Day Saints church; Neigh bors of Woodcraft, Chrysanthe mum Chapter 84; and Nurses as sociation of Jackson county. Mrs. Fernlund is- survived by her husband, Ray Fernlund; two sons, Anthony and Michael, both at home; her mother, Mrs. C. W. Deem, Grants Pass; her stepfather, C. W. Deems, Grants Pass: a sister, Miss Jeanne Short, Chicago, 111., and several aunts and uncles. The bodies will lie in state from Thursday noon until Sat urday morning. Four Minor Crashes Reported to Police Four minor accidents were re ported in Medford Tuesday, ac cording to city police. No injur ies were reported in any of the collisions. Vehicles operated by Orville Albert Williams, 1466 Grand ave., Medford, and Dollie Claire Holland, 501 Alice st, Medford, were involved in an accident at Grape and Fourth sts., police said. Williams was cited for fail ure to stop at a stop sign, they said. A car operated by Fred James Warner Jr., 230',j Manzanita st.. Mrs. Dwyer Attends Orientation Meeting Portland Mrs. Dan Dwyer of 839 South Riverside ave, Medford, was among 16 volun teer leaders from the state who attended an orientation meeting here this week in connection with the Heart Sunday campaign of the Oregon Heart association. The day-long session was set up to explain the Heart Sunday operation to chairmen and super visors from 11 Oregon communi ties. Mrs. Forrest Erickson of Estacada, state chairman for Heart Sunday, presided. Dr. Herbert E. Griswold Jr., OHA president and head of the division of cardiology at Univer sity of Oregon medical - school, outlined . research projects now being sponsored by the organ ization and discussed the educa tional program. Heart Sunday, principal fund raising activity of the associa tion's February Heart Fund cam paign, is scheduled Feb. 24, at which time volunteers in about 75 Oregon cities will carry on a door-to-door drive for .contribu tions to the OHA. Segment of Southeast Sewer Is Installed One segment, of the southeast Medford trunk sewer was com pleted Tuesday with installation of all 24-inch line planned for the sewer, according to Vern Thorpe, public works director.' The work is being done by P. S. Lord Mechanical contractors, Portland. The line runs be tween Cottage st. and Barnett rd. along Bear creek to the bridge at Barnett rd, Thorpe said. The last manhole of the project is being constructed to day. Contractors crews are work ing on another segment of the trunk sewer today, laying pipe along Barnett rd. east of Bear creek. Clare Booth Luce To Attend Inaugural Phoenix (U.R) Clare Boothe Luce, former ambassa dor to Italy, put an end to ru mors today that she is seriously ill by stating she was returning to Washington Saturday to at tend the inauguration of Presi dent Eisenhower. Mrs. Luce has been a guest at Elizabeth Arden's Main Chance Beauty and Rest Salon here. It had been reported in some quarters she was "serious ly ill." Sybil Ames, hostess for the salon, denied again today that Mrs. Luce was ill. She said the former diplomat swims several times a day, takes health exer cises, and even goes to nearby Scottsdale to shop. "She is perfectly all right," Mrs. Ames said. "She was tired and needed a rest, and that is what she has been getting."
