Hedrick Takes Mat Scuffles Hedrick Junior high ninth beat Eagle Point 33 to 13 yester day in a wrestling match and the Hornet seventh and eighth grad ers defeated McLaughlin 60 to 0. Winning for the ninth were Ken Johnson. Leland Johnson, Allen Hubbard. Jack Joyce, Carl Seig, Roger Spaur and Mike Far rier. Victors for the Hornet seventh and eighth were Jim Berg, Ray Graves, Larry Little, Norm Ol son, Ken Mor.se, Dan Doan, Paul Geren, Terry O'Sullivan, War ren Parke, Larry Gunn, Bill Thompson and Joe Keller. Lee Ragsdale, supervisor of physical education for the Med ford schools, said teams have been divided into circuits of eight and four teams each to make competition more even. Each league will crown a champ but no play-off between the two loop champions is planned at present. Teams in the National league and their captains are Dennis' Menaces, Dennis Doan and Dick Harvey; Houng Dogs, Dave El rod; Doug's Mugs, Doug Elliot; Unholy Five, Richard Durante; Pond's Ponuders, Bob Pond; Bob's Cobs, Bob Emmens; Mis fits, Roger Cooley; and Road Hogs, John Linton and Don Young. Russell Sparks Celtic Victory By UNITED PRESS Bill Russell, Bob Pettit. and Adolph Schayes each added an other fine performance to his Na tional Basketball association rec ord today, but only Russell was able to lead his team to victory. Rebounding from a poor showing in his New York debut on Tuesday, Russell tallied 15 points, grabbed 23 rebounds, and batted away a dozen rival shots Thursday night to pace the Bos ton Celtics in a 98-91 victory over the Fort Wayne Pistons at Fort Wayne. However, Pettit's 38-point, 29 rebound effort went for naught as his St. Louis Hawks bowed in overtime to New" York, 98-84, and Schayes' 40 points were wasted as his Syracuse Nationals lost to the Minneapolis Lakers, 118-110. In the fourth game Thursday night, Jack George and Paul Ari zin scored 23 points each to lead the Philadelphia Warriors to a 112-93 victory over the Roches ter Royals. Central Pointers Bounce Ashland Central Point Central Point subdued Ashland 44 to 11 in the eighth grade fray and trimmed the Ashlanders 25 to 16 in sev enth grade 'basketball action here last night. The Pointers were 24 to 4 halfway leaders in the eighth grade ruckus and turned in fine defensive work. Bryson LaCasse scored 13 for CP and Crasper six for Ashland. CP- seventh had a 16 to 4 bulge at the half with Charles Cavin getting 10 points in the tiff. Robertson had eight for Ash land. HOCKEY NATIONAL LEAGUE By United Press The Montreal Canadiens were back in first place in the Na tional Hockey league today for the first time early in the season, victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs that almost produced a full-scale riot. The defending Stanley Cup champions edged the Maple Leafs 2-1 Thursday night at Montreal while defenseman Leo Boivin's third period goal earned the Bos ton Bruins a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. The Comets won five of the 13 matches and took two others by forfeit when Medford did not have men in the two weight classes. Medford won six of the tussles. Recording victories for Crater were Calvin Dixon, Glen Boles and Jim Goldenpenny by falls and Charles Warren and Don Hubbard by decisions. Victors by pins for Medford were Gene Dalbec, Bill Hampton. Northwest Loop Fives Slate Counting Games By UNITED PRESS All six teams in the Northwest conference have counting basket ball action scheduled this week end. Lewis and Clark, winner of the only loop game played to date, meets College of Idaho at Caldwell Friday and Saturday. On Monday the Pioneers travel to Walja Walla to play Whitman. Pacific, which was beaten by Lewis and Clark last week, goes to Whitman Friday and Satur day and to College of Idaho Mon day.
