RIBERDY Camp White Domicilary has been the secne of festive activ ties for the past two weeks. Be ginning Dec. 10 for three days decorations were made. A total of 375 wreaths. 90 table pieces for the main dining room, 100 feet of garlands and 50 swags were turned out. Participating in this work were Mrs. L. C. McCay and Mrs. G. C. Stagg, Howard Garden club: Mrs. E. G. Taylor, Mrs. C. O. Long, Mrs. John Baldwin and Miss Bertha Hayman, Tal ent Garden club; Mrs. C. C. Hoover, Mrs. Chandler Drew and Mrs. Clark Ballard, Roxy Gardeners; Mrs. R. T. Nichol, Mrs. Addie Smets, Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Krebs Jacksonville Garden club; and Mrs. Ashton, Mrs. R. D. Kay, Mrs. Mylo Land, Mrs. Walter Hickson and Mrs. E. E. Reames. Central Point Gar den club. The greens, cones, and other items used in making the decorations were furnished by the Eagle Point, Shady Cove and Prospect Garden clubs. Decorations Strung After completion, the decora tions were strung throughout the station by Mrs. A. O. Floyd, Mrs. Ida D. Fitzgerald and Mrs. E. L. Crain. Members of the Camp White Garden club assisted in both the making and hanging decorations. Eighty-five spruce trees were cut near Prospect and trucked to the camp by the engineering department. These have been ! placed in conspicuous locations j throughout the Domiciliary and i decorated by ladies of volunteer organizations. Several days were required by volunteers, directed by Mrs. Thelma Williams, and assisted by Mrs. Ruth Freed, to gift-wrap and address gift packages to each veteran of the domiciliary. Each package contained several car tons of cigarettes and canteen script books, all of which were donated by various Veteran and volunteer organizations. Acknowledgment with thanks to the Astoria Garden club for the generous check contributed to the Camp White Garden club. Gift Shop Open On Dec. 14 a "Gift Shop was opened on the station for those veterans with no income. These were permitted to select as many "give-away" gifts as they chose for mailing to friends and relat ives. After selection, the gifts were wrapped, addressed and stamped ready for mailing at no cost to the veteran. The shop was sponsored by the Veteran and volunteer organizations. At 8:15 p.m. Dec. 14 the Vet erans of Foreign Wars auxiliary 4944 of Dorris, Calif., presented a variety show in the camp theatre. The organization has been making this pilgrimage dur ing the Christmas season for the past several years. Several dances have been given for members, wTith danc- Survey of Retail Stores In Three Counties Planned Corvallis Retail grocery stores in three Oregon counties are being surveyed this winter to aid the marketing of Oregon"s S84 million fruit and vegetable crop. Oregon State college home economists are cooperating with workers from the 11 western states in the three-year study. A sampling of stores repre sentative of rural, urban, coast and mountain communities will be taken in Lane, Multnomah and Umatilla counties where about half the food sales in Ore gon are made each year. About 400 grocers will be in terviewed to obtain information about the type of shopping area in which stores are located, kinds of goods carried, location and sources of fresh fruits and vegetables, store management practices and special services of fered customers. Results of the survey will be tabulated into a market report. Later Stuay In a later study, consumers will be interviewed to learn their reasons for buying selected fresh, frozen and processed fruits and vegetables.
