ALNUTS Q SUPPLY LIMITED r "K Sum Christmas breakfast may be made festive and carry the holi day spirit if a filbert bread is the star of the menu. The ring may be made in advance and reheated when the family gathers for that all important meal on Christmas morning. For ease of preparation, use a prepared roll mix. Follow the directions on the package and roll it into a rectangle about 12 by 6 inches, then spread with the filling and roll jelly roll fashion. For the filling use Vi cup coarsely cut Oregon filberts; 2 tablespoons butter or margarine; 3 tablespoons sugar; Vi teaspoon cinnamon and 23 cup currants (Plump in warm water for ten minutes drain) Spread butter on dough. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon' cur rants and nuts. Roll as for jelly roll. Form into circle, pinching ends together. Place in ring mold or form in circle on cookie sheet, or put in 10-inch round cake pan. With scissors, cut about two-thirds the way through the dough at 1',2-inch intervals. Turn each section to show filling if baked on shallow pan. Grease top of ring with soft shortening; cover with wax paper. Let rise in warm place for about 1 hour. Bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. As soon as the bread comes from the oven, frost with a powdered sugar frosting using 1 cup powdered sugar, 3 table spoons hot water and '4 teaspoon vanilla. Sprinkle coursely chopped nuts over frosting. Federation President Urges Safe Driving Over Holidays Washington, D. C. Ameri can women were urged today to accept greater responsibility than ever before in backing the attack on highway accidents dur ing the coming holiday season by the president of the General Federation of Women's clubs. "Safe driving must become not only a womanly preoccupation but an occupation if the needless Yuletide of traffic is to be re duced," declared Mrs. R. I. C. Prout, federation president. "As automobile drivers, as passeng ers and as hostesses, women can make a definite contribution," she added. Noting that the Christmas-New Year's period is always the most dangerous time on the roads, Mrs. Prout offered these safety suggestions: "As a driver, keep alert and say alive. A weary driver whose reflexes are slowed is a likely candidate for the saying 'An ac cident on the way to happen.' . r ss Pork Sausage JLC OUR OWN MAKE J b U.S. CHOICE Pot Roast Eaaaisjaipss.tipaimiawiaiai.ii t iisf..iani 11. j m aawa atwawagwsaF' . nam mm aaaaaaaiaaiaiiiiaaawwiiii ill iaiMaawaaaaaaBBaaaaawajaaaMawaaBiaaaaa , i. "As a passenger, it is just com- mon sense to keep an eye on the hjeeuuuitii ana leimna uie cul ver to slow down if the speed limit is being exceeded. Speed is the greatest killer, and with modern cars and highways, it is easy to go too fast for weather and traffic conditions. "As a hostess, successful en tertaining also carries the re sponsibility of seeing that your guests get home safely. At party's end, serve coffee as a pick-up. If a guest is not up to driving, ar range for someone else to do so or call a taxi. "Nearly 1,000 persons were killed last holiday season and thousands more were injured," Mrs. Prout stated. "The women of America must do everything possible to reduce this tragic toll." DON'T MISS THE HOLIDAY SAVINGS In Our Meat Dept. Christmas Village Pleasing Decoration There's nothing new about a village under your Christmas tree, but when it's don'e with imagination it can please mem bers of all generations. General Electric lighting peo ple suggest that you reserve one string of your Christmas lights for this job. Better use the mul tiple C-7Vi strings that allow one bulb to burn out without darkening the entire string. Use yellow bulbs for a warm glow inside the village houses, blue for the church and one bulb attached to a lower branch to represent the Christmas Star.
