The pretty kid said simply: 'I Love -People' V.'ell. to get down to cases, Phyllis is on a dry run, you might say. honking a horn for this new picture. But she is not learning much about picture - making. Dressed in skin-tight costume all she is doing is' getting her own ample form 'filmed. When the picture men and the reporters run away, they show these pic tures anil writing little pieces for the p.-iper. About the girl, not the picture. The kid will have to hide in business clothes, wipe the rouge and lipstick off, and get down to the business of promoting things like pictures, if she becomes a press .agent. Phyllis is on leave from the University of California at Los Angeles. She is majoring in edu cation and would like some day to come up with a teacher's li cense. "That." she told me ' over lunch, "can keep a girl going you can't tell when you may have to fall back on it." Finish School First But first she would like to finish school. And she would like then to have a fling at a career, public relations or other wise. And if she can't find a hus band, which shouldn't be too dif ficult,, she would maybe take that screen test. "And if I happen to wind up as a public relations person and marry, I would not be happy as a wife if I worked. Unless I should by chance marry another press agent. Phyllis is something of a home body. At least when it comes to cooking. "Trouble Is." she said, "the only thing I can cook is black cQffee. and sausage, and Eng lish muffins, and hot cakes. Breakfast only. That's me all over. Only a breakfast cooker. Don't ask me how to stir up an apple pan dowdy." About that time a little lady reporter walked into the room and said: "Do you belong to a sorority?" "Yes." said the lovely. Kappa Alpha Theta." The yak-yak started about girl clubs. It was time for an old man to pull on his hat and leave the young ladies to their yammering. 0 O O O O oo ?0&m aaata wen ... 0 - - o , 1 HtmmcAi mm uctcu tfiKi' Cjt.li Skop c -.pi South Bartlat Cove Woman Dies From Head Injuries La Grande CU.R) The death of a 32-year-old Cove, Ore., woman in a local hospital yesterday afternoon raised the toll in a highway crash near here Monday night to two. Environment Assists In Preventing TB A sound tuberculosis preven tive program consists not only of enhancing the resistance of the body by specific measures, but also the promotion of environ mental factors, according to Eu gene Thorndike, chairman of the Jackson County board of health. He noted that BCG vaccine forms a resistance in the body, and among environmental fac tors involved is an improved standard of living, including im proved nutrition, lessened phy sical and emotional stress and better housing. . Dr. A. Erin Merkel, public health officer, said the cost of each individual case is about SI 5.000 because of protracted hospitalization and loss of earn ing power of the individual who contracts tuberculosis. ' The fig ure is given by the National Tuberculosis association, . and varies with the community and the case, he said. During 1955, Jackson county residents donated to the Public Health association about 510,000 through purchase of Christmas Seals. About 85 per cent of the amount was spent directly on case-finding and tuberculosis. The remaining 15 per cent went toward broadening and intensify ing the preventive program, Thorndike said. Vote May Indicate Future (or Eden London UR) British voters today give the first grass-roots indication of what the Anglo French attack on Egypt may mean to the political future of Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden. They go to the polls at Melton Mowbray to choose a successor to Minister of State Anthony Nutting, who resigned from the government in protest to the Suez attack. Debate in the House of Com mons turned today from Suez to the government policy on Cy prus. Colonial Secretary Alan Lennox-Boyd was going before Commons to outline Britain's new plans giving more self-government to the island. Melton Mowbray, an agricul tural district of some 15,000 per sons in northeast Leicster is nor mally considered safely Conser vative. But a 10 per cent shift in today's vote could put a mem ber of the Labor party in the Parliament seat formerly held by Nutting. Worcester, Mass.
