Mrs. Minear attends Medford Church of the Brethren, church, seldom missing a Sunday morn ing service. She has belonged to the Brethren church since 1879. Mrs. Minear enjoyed garden ing in her younger days, and now growing in the Lininger arden is a roe bush which she a slip during the brief time the family lived on Granite street in Ashland in 1898. Whenever the family moved to a new home, the red rose was transplanted and has thrived. It is now one of the family's most treasured posses sion, Mrs. Lininger states, and he picked a bud from the bush last Sunday for her mother. Mrs. Minear is a native of Ill inois, having been born in the town of Oregon in that state. She moved to Iowa with her parents when six years old. She was married to Lorenzo D. Minear in 1885, and her husband died in 1907. 4 Open House Set By County Office The. annual Christmas open house given by the county clerk's and recorder's office will be held on the second floor of the annex in the courthouse Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 3:30 until 5 p.m. A high, school vocal group will sing. The ppen house is given for the courthouse employees and friends. Society Bethel Holds Initiation; Events Set Central Point Retiring Hon ored Queen Maria Abbott con ducted initiation ceremonies for Bethel 38, International Order of Job's Daughters, December 13. candidates initiated into the order were Misses Penny Taylor, Cheryl Ghelardi, Jan Bateman, Charla Jo Meyer, Suzann Pierce and June Hopkins. Masons and Eastern Star mem bers were special guests of the evening to observe the work of the bethel officers and choir. - Escorted and introduced were Miss Kay Askwith, grand inner guard; Melvin McGrew, grand junior custodian and associate guardian; Mrs. A. M. Setness, past- guardian; Mrs. Richard Stratton, past guardian; Mrs. Ray Allred, past guardian; Wil liam Abbott, past associate guardian, all of Bethel 38; Wor shipful Master Ferd Jones, who introduced masons in attend ance; Mrs. Melvin McGrew, worthy matron of Nevita chap ter, Order of Eastern Star, who introduced Eastern Star mem bers. Miss Abbott thanked her of ficers and choir, guardian coun cil for their assistance during her term as queen. Bethel members will meet Thursday, December 20 at 5:30 at the Masonic temple and from there will go to the home of Grandmother Moore to sing carols. A line party will follow. A combination Christmas gift exchange and practice for instal lation will be held Wednesday, December 26 at 2 p.m. Miss Sally Elden will be installed as hon ored queen Thursday, December 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Central Point Masonic temple. Crater chapter. Order of DeMolay, will assist in the ceremonies. Large baskets of evergreens with red ornaments were used for decorating the chapter room by Misses Sharon Anderson and Sandra Ghelardi and their moth ers. A Santa Claus motif with red tree candles was used by the re freshment committee composed of Misses Helen Hood, Suzanne Hood, Gail Collins, Donna Bur nett, assisted by their mothers Country Club To Be Scene Of Numerous Holiday Parties Beginning tomorrow, Rogue Valley Country club will be the scene of numerous holiday parties. The series includes parties for the younger generation; dances for the teen-agers and college students, and annual formal events which are traditional with the club for the holiday season A number of large cocktail parties are also being held at the club this month by members. Tomorrow night the club has planned a party for the sons and daughters of members and their guests between the ages of 11 and 14 years. Hours are from 7:30 to 10:30 o'clock. Dinner will be served at 8:30 o'clock and music for dancing will be pro vided by Abby Green and Randy Hugdahl. Reservations are to be made by calling the office. Two events are planned at the club Thursday, December 20. Lady Golfers will hold an in- chapter lormal party at the club, with a no-host luncheon at 1 o'clock to be followed by a gift ex change.' Those planning to at tend are asked to make reserva tions. Thursday afternoon the annual Christmas party for children of members will be held from 3 until 4:30 p.m. Mrs. N. G. Wilson is general chairman, and she is being assisted by a large com mittee. Each child attendind is asked to take a wrapped toy, marked boy or girl,' and these wiil be given to Medford Lady Lions for the annual distribution to underprivileged children. will be a fancy headdress con test. For women guests. Mrs. Robert Taylor and Mrs. Don Her ried are co-chairmen. The annual Queen's Ball has been scheduled for Saturday, December 22, in the main din ing room. It is being planned by Bethel 14 and Bethel 55, In ternational Order of Job's Daughters, and Medford chapter of the Order of DeMolay. The event will honor the retiring and elect queen of the two bethels, and the master councilor of the Sorority to Hold Party Saturday Alpha Lambda chapter, Epsil-1 is steadily increasing, accord- Junior Service league mem bers have arranged to hold the annual Christmas Charity ball at the club Friday, December 21, and the club will be close'd to everyone except league members and their guests. The league ball is always one of the largest and brightest parties of the holiday season. It is given as a benefit for the league's kindergarten for deaf children. Adding interest to the ball Cow Belies Hold Tea at Charleys Jackson County Cow Belles held a tea at the new home of Mrs. Clayton Charley, 3321 For rest avenue December 12. Twen ty attended. Refreshments were furnished by Applegate member! of the organization. Next meeting of the group will be held in February. Offic ers will be .elected. Cow Belles, is an organization for the wives of cattlemen. Another party for junior mem bers is set for Thursday, Dec ember 27. This will be for sons and daughters of members aged 15 years through the junior class of Medford High school, and their guests. It will be semi-formal, with boys expected to wear coats and ties and girls to wear semi-formal frocks. Dinner at 8:30 o'clock will be followed by dancing. Abby Green and Randy Hugdahl will play. Reservations are to be made by calling the club. on Sigma Alpha sority, plans a Christmas party for members and their husbands at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Smith Saturday, December 22, at 7:30 p.m. Maj. Gen. J. H. Hicks was guest speaker for the last meet ing, and showed colored slides taken in Europe. Many of the pictures were of the French countryside. The homes are made with very little wood in them and are tile-roofed. The typical house is two stories with no inside quarters. Most of the homes are un heated, and modern plumbing and electricity is "rare even in the towns of France. The small number of middle class people ing to Major Hicks. Hours are from 9 until two o'clock and it is for members and their out-of-town guests only. Reservations for this event, which attracts a large guest list each year, must be made by December 26. Planning the event are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mitchell. Mr. and Mrs. Monte Stram and Mr. and Mrs. David Koblik. The clubhouse has been made festive with Christmas decora tions which this year feature angels with a modernistic tone, Mrs. Robert P.
