is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Bud Irwin, not the Ed Irwins as

have set Dec. 17 as their wed
ding date. Wedding and recept
tion will be held at the Lester
Gilman home in Medford. Miss
Irwin plans to continue working
as' a nurses aid at the Sacred
Heart hospital for a short time.

Thursday Programs
Six other schools will present
programs on Thursday. At 8
p.m., the music department of
Medford Senior High school
will present its annual Christ
mas program in the school audi
torium under the direction ot
John Drysdale and Lynn Sjo
lund. The program will include se
lections by the girls' chorus,
boys' chorus and Aladrigal group.
The "Song of Christmas'' will
also be presented by the choir
and orchestra.
McLoughlin Junior High will
present a program at 7:3u p.m.,
featuring the orchestra, seventh
grade chorus and girls' chorus,
eighth and ninth grade mixed
chorus and combined choruses.
Cantata Planned
A Christmas cantata, "Child
Jesus," by Joseph W. Clokey and
Hazel Jean Kirk will be pre
sented by the fourth, fifth and
sixth grade pupils at Jackson
school at 7:30 p.m. Every child
in these grades will participate.
Roosevelt school will present
its Christmas program, " Sea
son's Greetings," at 8 p.m.
The first grade will present
"Fantasy and the Carolers;"
second grade, "The Poor Toy
maker;" third grade, "Fun and
Nonsense" and the prelude; and
the fourth grade, "Blessing and
Nativity" scenes. The band and
orchestra will also participate
as well as three soloists.
Jefferson school's program
will start at 8 p.m. Members of
each grade in the primary de
partment will appear in a Christ
mas scene with the first grade
presenting, "The Christmas That
was Almost Lost;" second grade,
"Christmas Customs;" and the
third grade, "The Littlest An
gel." Other Grades
Fourth, fifth and sixth grades
will present the Christmas story,
"Why the Chimes Rang." The
orchestra and band will also per
form. Washington school will give
a program at 8 p.m., with the
theme, "In the Week When
Christmas Comes," based on the
poem by Eleanor Farjeon. The
band and orchestra will open the
program. The singing chorus,
choral reading group, rhythms
and pantomines will also fe fea
tured. A matinee will be given at 1
p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

are launching an all-out drive
for more small industries for the
Illinois Valley. Additional pay
rolls.' they say. are needed to
bolster depleting revenue "from
the region's dwindling sawlog
supply.
Marketable timber from pub
lic as well as private land has
been thinned out in accessible
areas and good sawlogs are hard
to come by. Some logging con
tractors have sold their equip
ment and moved to other local
ities to take up new occupations.
Woodsmen working for daily
wages have moved out of the
valley leaving innumerable small
houses vacant with little pros
pects of them being occupied
it. the near future. Consequently,
house rent here is very low at
the present time and will likely
remain so until something hap
pens to take up the slack.
Improved real estate, likewise,
remains low-priced and cut-over
land is . said to be available at
a wide range of low prices, de
pending upon location. The terms
"cut-over" or "logged-over" may
leave the impression with people
who live in treeless sections of
the country that no trees are
left standing when logging crews
pull out of the area of operation.

1:30 p.m., wil be "Christmas
Greetings."
The elementary and high
school will jointly present their
program at 7:30 p.m., in the
high school gymnasium. Theme
will be "The Christmas Story,"
with' most of the students in
grades 4 through 8 participating.
