Catholic Scholarship
Plan Creates Teachers
Pittsburgh iU.PJ Pittsburgh
district Catholic schools will
gain the teaching services of 220
girls under a program in opera
tion here.
The Catholic Diocesan School
System sponsored a scholarship
program three years ago, paying
all the college tuition costs of
220 top students. In exchange,
the coeds will teach in local
Catholic schools as soon as they
are graduated.
The program is expected to re
lieve a critical shortage of teach
ers for the 109,000 pupils en
rolled in Pittsburgh di s t r i c t
Catholic schools.
ReetJ Students To Seek
Rhodes Scholarships
Portland (U.R) Two Reed
college students, Robert W.
Ritchie of Portland and John E.
Moore of Lake Tahoe, Calif., will
represent Oregon in Northwest
competition for Rhodes scholar
ships at Spokane tomorrow.
They will compete with 10 other
students from the Northwest for
four scholarships.
