Christmas Seals
At County Office
Christmas seals may be pur
chased by calling the Jackson
County Health department at
2-7159, Jackson County Public
Health association announces.
Because of the difficulty of
keeping the files of the Christ
mas seal campaign absolutely
correct, each year there are a
few people, who do not receive
Christmas seals here in Jackson
county, it was said. Many of
these persons wish to buy Christ
mas seals to further the work of
tuberculosis control and preven
tion and they may do so by con
tacting the health department
and leaving their names, with
their request for Christmas seals.
Requests will be forwarded
and such persons will receive
their seals in a short time. For
this service, call the Jackson
County Public Health depart
ment at 2-7159.

University Women.
Playing were Bill Shannon, a
senior at Willamette university
and a son of Mr.and Mrs. W. L.
Shannon, Route 1, Box 60, Jack
sonville, and Jerry Johnson, for
merly of Medford and now of
Salem. The two played with a
group of brass instrumentalists
who presented medieval music
for the English drama, "The
Second Shepherd's Play." Young
Shannon's instrument is the tuba.
Wednesday Club
Hears Review of
Christmas Story
Mrs. M. F. Heilman reviewed
a story in the last Reader's Digest
book, "Merry Christmas, Mr.
Baxter," by Edward Streeter,
at the last meeting of Wednesday
Study club.
The author tells of the firm
determination of a husband to
budget Christmas spending, or
most certainly to discontinue
some names on the Christmas
card list, but who ends up by
sending more cards than former
ly. Mr. Baxter also found it re
quires real courage to shop for
lingerie, explaining to a cynical
saleswoman, it was for his wife,
and in the French toiletries, a
helpful young woman clerk, ooz
ing skepticism, suggested "Sin."
as one of the new exotic per
fumes.
Mrs. L. V. Watkins presented
three articles from the World
Almanac, "T h e Reconstructed
White House," in Washington,
D. C, "Arlington National Cem
etery," and "Tomb of the Un
known Soldier."
