Smith plays eight instruments including or gan, piano and accordian. 'As part of his performance he play ed request numbers. He is able to play anything he has heard even once. The musician requested stu dents to choo.e four notes. From these four notes he composed an original rock and roll number. With the help of Mr. Cooper, who travels with him. Thursday, Dec. , JJedrick Junior High had an interesting assembly. Pruth McFarlin, a tenor, and Hugh Thompson his accompanist, entertained. Mc Farlin had polio at the age of three, but he still made singing his career. He has traveled- til over the United States and Canada. . His selection included, "I'll Walk With God." "Ava Maria" and "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing." Thompson played "Saint Louis Blues," and "Rhapsody in Blue." Je$ky Killed When He Falls Down Sfairs Moscow (U.R; U. S. embassy Ralph J. Jesky, 28, -of South bridge. Mass. was killed Satur day when he accidentally fell down a flight of stairs, the em bassy announced. The announcement said Jesky fell down the stairwell of the 5th floor of the Sadovo-Samot-echnaya apartments. The apart ments are reserved for foreign diplomats. Election in RR Rural Fire District Tuesday Rogue River An election for four directors in the Rotmo T?iv. er Rural Fire Protection district will be held between" 2 and 8 p.m. Dec. 11 at Jims Farm store, Highway-99, Rogue River.' Seeking the four positions are Edward Lilly, Glen Birdseye. Joe Allison, Ciephan Voss and Carl Christenson. Allison is the only Incumbent. Secession Movement Sponsors Ask Support Of Northern Calif. Sunday, December 9, 1358 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE NINE Dunsmuir Sponsors of the northern California "secession to statehood" movement last week petitioned support of the North ern California Inter-County Chamber of Commerce. ' Letters were mailed to gov ernmental heads and promotiou al bodies of the eight counties which the movement would en compass. The counties are Siski you, Shasta, .Trinity, Lassen, Plumas, Modoc, Del Norte and Humboldt. The letters noted need for northern California counties to protect their natural resources. Also' noted was the fact that "time, talents and funds are lacking in the sparsely populat ed,' mountainous areas to com bat the statistical .barrage and legal talent massed by .the met ropolitan areas." Only Hope Suggested in the letter as "the only hope of the northern Cali fornia counties" was a movement to unite-. B. F. Mason, Dunsmuir, and Pat Hanratty, Mount Shas ta, signers of the letters, asked support in the state of Shajta movement and in seeking admis sion to the union thrpugh fed eral steps using the precedent set in 1861. In that year West Virginia was admitted to the un ion, without' the consent of the mother'state of Virginia. It was pointed out Thursday in a United Press report -that-the proposal to make a. new state, from the eight counties is possible legally according to the Library of Congress. It was also noted, however, that permission of- the Caalifornia legislature as well as Congress would be nec essary. In Curry county, the so-called "Freedomists" are mainly mad at the Oregon highway depart ment for its' failure to' link ft with interior southwest Oregon. They claim they have been kept , yoked and shackled. The Freedomists wired .
